This is a Great price in a GREAT location! Just 4 miles from the hustle of town and yet close to beautiful beaches and the local Harbor from where you can take off on many fun water activities like deep sea fishing, snorkeling cruises or manta ray diving.

This is Hawaii at it's best. . You will enjoy the lush. luxurious landscape in this peaceful paradise, away from the crowds, yet close to many pristine beaches. This one acre estate is located in one of Kona's most desirable neighborhoods, four miles north of Kona village, at 900 ft elevation where the days are 10 degrees cooler than the coast and the humidity is far more comfortable than by the ocean.. You can open your windows all year long and enjoy the breezes. You'll love the spaciousness of the 1 acre lot with no neighbors in sight.

Your accommodations are in the Private Ohana (guest suite) which is attached to the main house but is self-contained with its own private entrance, kitchen and parking space.

Unless you want to ask questions, I am invisible. Your privacy is assured.

It seems like you're far removed from everything, but everything is close by at your fingertips, just a short drive away when you want anything. Staying here is the best of both worlds!

High speed Wi-fi internet is included, and the flat screen television is equipped with Roku for on-demand viewing using Netflix, and Amazon Instant Video. We also have basic cable. Here are some of the other things that will delight you staying at The Great Kona Escape.

We are located 3 miles up from a quiet sandy cove beach where sea turtles are often seen sunning themselves on the shore and 15 minutes to the most pristine golf course you can imagine, where the wild Peacocks and Nene birds are free to roam.

You couldn’t ask for a better location or a more tranquil environment to go along with this uber comfortable, tropical spacious, yet cozy, ohana. This truly is a piece of paradise.

Quaint little getaway

Nice spot out of town. Easy to get around. More spacious than expected. The Vrbo listing indicates a washer and communal pool. Neither were correct. Sandra was so nice she offered to do our laundry! The roosters will wake you in the morning and the wild birds will sing you to sleep.

Wow, wow, wow! Absolutely perfect stay! Great for visiting Kona w/o the resort feels…!!! Home away from home for sure! Pineapples, mangos, starfruit, and more grow in their private garden, and if u ask nicely u can try them!!! I will miss u too Mango (cat)!!!

Paradise inside of Paradise

From the moment we walked in the door, we felt welcomed and "loved". Sandy's place is an oasis within the paradise of the Big Island.... Get ready for a soft landing and a lovely stay. Everything about her property reflects the comfort and care she extends in taking care of her guests. Thoughtful touches abound (Kona coffee in the kitchen!)-- super comfortable bed. Great location (near beaches, airport and downtown Kona)and everything Is IMMACULATELY clean. Book this NOW... You won't regret it!

Peaceful Ohana Close to Town

It was a beautiful property. Quiet, perched up in the hills, but close to town. It is a shared property so you can hear other guests at times but it was not an issue at all throughout our stay. The bed was comfortable and the hosts were great. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home!

Very nice stay!

Beautiful, cute slave to stay in! Enjoyed it except for someone staying downstairs by the pool talking on his phone very loud at 7am throwing a football at the inflatables and woke us up. I would stay here again because I know that's not something that will always Happen. Owner was very welcoming and inviting, house was very clean and we had everything we needed for our stay!

Amazing stay - everything we needed!

We had a wonderful stay at the Great Kona Escape! I would recommend this to others in a heartbeat. The apartment is even more beautiful than pictured and so spacious. The grounds are beautiful- it was the perfect location for us. All appliances worked well, and would stay again easily. Sandra and Ken had excellent recommendations for activities and helping with our itinerary planning. Thank you so much for all!

Precious Paradise

We enjoyed our stay at The Great Kona Escape. The grounds are more beautiful than many botanical gardens. We enjoyed walks in the gardens and gorgeous sunsets over the ocean. The vibrant paintings by Sandra and a few of her friend's in our dwelling were a joy to see. When we had questions, she was there with answers and suggestions. We were in a resort previously on the Kona coast where the heat was too intense. We decided to seek a cooler upcountry place to stay and found a greater and more pleasant experience for our vacation. Sandra's is a great place to stay with easy access to all areas around Kailua-Kona. The mountains, beaches and the parks... just go.

Great stay

Sandra and Ken are very welcoming and caring. We came to compete in the ironman world championship, we would not have found a better place to stay. The property is quiet, peaceful, neat and beautiful. Apartment is very convenient and private. The bed is so comfy and it feels great to have AC at times. You will enjoy flowers, delicious fruits and amazing view from the garden. Located 10min away from Kona center, it is very pleasant to avoid the crowd and cooler air. We would come back any time. Thank you !

Peaceful Property in a Great Location

I am so happy I found this peaceful, quiet piece of paradise. It was exactly what we needed, spacious, clean and comfortable. This is a great location to visit the Island from and is close to beaches and town, shopping and dining. The property is one acre in an upscale neighborhood where we enjoyed our morning walks with many varieties of birds and flowers. Staying up the mountain a bit the temperature was very comfortable even during the hottest time of year, and the views from the property are magnificent. We've already booked again for next year. Thank you, Sandra and Ken, for providing everything we needed for a memorable vacation.

Lovely property

The property is lovely and the home was quiet and peaceful, until the weekend. The property is 3 apartments, the owners on the upper floor with a small 1 bedroom unit in one corner where we stayed, and a large apartment on the lower floor. The apartment we had (on the upper floor) had air conditioning in the bedroom only so we opened the windows for air. On the first weekend two young men stayed in the lower apartment right under our living room and bedroom windows. Very noisy music and loud talk and laughter. I don't begrudge them their fun, but the owners specified 'quiet after 10PM.' About 1 AM I had to visit the other guests and ask them for quiet. The music was turned off but party noises continued for an hour or more. The place was quiet again when the downstairs guest left, then the owners went away for a long weekend. They must have known about the crowd coming for that weekend and not wanted to be around. That weekend a large bachelorette/wedding party took the lower apartment. So many women attended and stayed every night that the loud party never ended, round the clock noise. We finally had to leave the property to get any sleep! When that party was finally over (sometime Monday) it was quiet again. We never felt comfortable in the 2 weeks we stayed with the noise and partying and people walking past our windows day and night to and from the lower apartment. We would have moved had we not paid in advance (almost did anyway!). Also, the property has a swimming pool that is off-limits to the upper apartment guests and a laundry that is also off-limits. Cannot recommend this place and will never go back.

Great location if you like to explore

If you want to be close to the action but want a good nights sleep this is for you. Our apartment was clean and roomy with kitchen, overall very comfortable. The location worked for us because we like to explore the island not just lay on the beach. Would have got a full 5 if it had a deck with a view. There was a view from our bedroom. Minutes from the beach. Very nice owners.

Sweet spot up the hill in Kona,

This is a great place overall to stay in Kona. Location is good, 5-10 minutes out of downtown Kailua, apartment is comfortable and well stocked, price point is right and Sandra was a very sweet and generous host. If you are the type that likes to hang out at your apartment for long periods of time during the day, I would recommend somewhere else, but as a place to make home base while you go off and explore the island (what I prefer to do), this is ideal. If you like to cook your own meals, the kitchen is a little bit of a challenge owing to its size, but fully workable. We were able to make full egg breakfasts on the hot plate and even stuff like roast fish and potatoes in their little tiny toaster oven. The only things I'd say this spot needs is sharper knives and a few cutting boards. Thank you Sandra! -RL

We are here to give you directions to just about anywhere - good advice for dining and activities, and assure your comfort and privacy at all times. You'll love it here.

This property is convenient to many activities in Kona and is the perfect climate for comfort. The property is like a botanical garden and is beautiful wherever you look. The birds are delightful to see and hear and the Ohana itself if comfortable, clean, spacious and the hosts are helpful.

At The Great Kona Escape you can help yourself to the fruit on the trees, the organic vegetables and herbs in the garden, roam the property delighting in the many beautiful orchids and other tropical treats. There is fast WiFi, cable TV and access to Netflix etc. for your entertainment. The beaches and shops are just minutes down the road and we provide beach chairs, coolers, and bodyboards. Your comfort and privacy are our priority.
