Secluded Cedar Cottage in the Matunuck Hills - just minutes from local beaches!

Nestled on a hill surrounded by 12 acres of trees, walking trails, and several small kettle ponds, this cottage is the perfect serene getaway! The house is an easy drive to all that South County has to offer - less than ten minutes to Matunuck beaches (SK town beach pass included), the Ocean Mist, Matunuck Oyster Bar, and more. Twenty minute drive to Point Judith and Block Island ferries, Westerly, and Watch Hill. Thirty minute drive to Newport or Mystic, CT.

Sleeps eight. Spacious sunlit dining and living space, plus a wrap-around deck with seating and a gas grill. Working wood stove if evenings get chilly and AC throughout. Three bedrooms ( 1 queen, 1 full, 1 with two twins), plus a very comfortable sleeper sofa in the living room. Two full bathrooms, one newly renovated with a soaker tub. Newly renovated kitchen with brand-new appliances. Washer/dryer in walkout basement.

Internet, TV with Amazon Fire stick, plenty of parking.

Thed size of the proeprty was good, but the "sleeps 8" rating doesn't fly if there are all single sleepers. There are 4 beds and two couches, so if 2 people sleep on the couches then it's 6. We worked around it. The house was clean with the exception of the trash and recycle cans not having been emptied prior to arrival.Comfort was fine with many amenities to be used, the one exception is that the one TV in the house is an Apple TV which doesn't allow casting from android devices. One 90 our guys runs an IT outfit, so it's a thing.Location: well located to get to the beaches, relatively easy to get in and out of except for the steep inclined drive way and late at night.All in all, a good place to rent, private, quiet and well-appointed.

Hi Michael, Thanks for your feedback! I wish you had communicated your concern about the tv during your stay. The tv is a Samsung smart tv, and I would have been happy to help you troubleshoot casting to it. As the listing and photos show, the house can sleep 8. Upstairs has one queen bed and two twin beds. Downstairs has one double bed and one queen-sized pull-out couch. Your reservation indicated that two people were visiting, and again, I would have been happy to talk this issue through during your visit had you raised the concern. Sincerely, Emma

Treehouse near the beach

We had a fantastic time staying at this property. It’s a clean and very well-designed spot with all the amenities that you need. Plug and play, and play we did. Can’t wait to stay again.

What a lovely home! Beautiful, roomy, comfortable, well stocked with linens, kitchen supplies, everything we needed! Emma quickly responded with any questions we had. Gorgeous setting. Secluded yet close to everything: beach, Ninigret Park, local hikes. Each one of us said we would come again. Thank you Emma!

Beautiful home. Minutes away from everything!!

This was the perfect place! Gorgeous home with everything you need! All the necessities in the kitchen. Three full bedrooms, all with their own piece of charm. I would definitely come back here again with my family.

Great Place!

We stay for a week every year in the area. I like being close to the action, but sort of off the beaten path at the same time. This property fits the bill perfectly! Minutes from the beach and attractions, but quiet and totally private. Plenty of room, and we felt totally at home. All wood inside, and has the feel of a remote hunting cabin, but has all the modern luxuries.

Quiet family getaway

A little hard to find at first but we loved the house was tucked away and not in a crowded area. We were traveling from far and the house was stocked up on travel essentials so we did not need to pack them, even had plenty of beach gear! Whenever I had a question I got an answer instantly so that was very helpful when I was preparing for the trip. Overall great property and area to enjoy a quiet vacation, get to the beach without all the crowds! And close proximity to so many Rhode Island adventures!

Peaceful Easy Feeling

Property is great as advertised. Very spacious with plenty of outdoor living space. Upstairs bathroom is very updated and beautiful. Very secluded and quiet. Only noise is the Owl we heard hooting during the night. Having the basement to store our gear is also a bonus. Host Emma is great. Can’t say enough good things about the property

Secluded and Comfy

We really enjoyed this lovely home. Kitchen was modern, clean and had some of your basic condiments which is so helpful when your away from your own kitchen. I love the skylights which brought light into the bedrooms and the upstairs bathroom is so pretty with a wonderful shower. We did move our sleeping arrangement to the downstairs bedroom because of the squeaking of the queen size bed upstairs. Other than that, we appreciated our stay at Emma's home. Convenient location that is close to beaches too.

Private, Quiet, and Near the Beaches

I rented this cabin for my family during the summer and the size was perfect for 4-5 people. The kitchen was very spacious and well stocked, there were beach supplies at our disposal, and the space was equipped with several comunal areas as well as enough space to enjoy some alone time. Although it was hot out, we never turned on the central air becasue the surrounding trees kept the cabin cool. We enjoyed the isolated location and the convenience of driving 10 minutes to different beaches nearby. Definitely check out the trolls at Ninigret Park.

The house was very clean and spacious. The kitchen was well stocked with everything you could need to prepare your meals. The owner truly thought of everything one would need to have an enjoyable stay. It was conveniently located (in terms of travel time) to most beaches/towns. Due to the thorough information sent prior to our arrival, we were prepared for the difficulty in locating the road. The gps in our car couldn’t find it but our iPhones took us right to the house. While we enjoyed the house itself, there were a few things we wish we had known prior to booking. The road is very narrow - one car wide & is surrounded by overgrown trees and bushes, which rub/scrape your car as you drive through (we have a smaller suv). If a car is coming the other direction, there is no other option but to back all the way up (it is not a flat straight road). If you are choosing the house based on the beach pass (it was the deciding factor for us), I’d pass. It is a small rocky beach which in July 2026 was covered in seaweed & smelled horrible, with a parking lot that reached capacity by late morning. We could not find the propane tank that was supposed to mark the head of the hiking trail. There is not much outdoor space for kids to play catch or run around much but there are small areas to explore. Puzzles and a few games entertained the family inside.It is a peaceful nature filled setting to help you unwind from daily life.

Wooded hideaway

Very nice home in wooded area of Matunack Hills. Little hard to find the first few times off Rte 1. House was very comfortable except 2 things. The master bedroom bed squeaks loudly when ugly change position or get out of bed. Enough to interrupt sleep for the other person. Other issue only overhead lighting in bedrooms & living room. Very bright… it would have been more comfortable to have table top lamps & to be able to read in bed. I know nowhere is perfect & the house has many great features….kitchen, cleanliness & updated master bathroom. Enjoyed our stay.

Our stay at this venue was wonderful. It's a beautiful house and it's located in and out of the way spot in the middle of the woods. It was very clean and the accommodations were excellent. The kitchen was big and roomy and had lots of space for food prep. The kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed. They had plenty of phone chargers on the kitchen counter. The views from this house were beautiful. Hanging out on the deck was a lot of fun. This is the perfect house to hang out and if the weather ends up not being great because just being in the kitchen with all the windows open felt like being outside without getting wet. The dining room table is big enough that you could do a jigsaw puzzle on it and still eat on the other half. The location was convenient to Wakefield and Westerly and to all of the beaches. The location was not hard for us to find.Staying at this house felt like being in a treehouse because of the elevation of the house in relation to the property and the trees surrounding it.Having said that the only negative things I could point out to people that they might want to consider before renting this venue is that the yard is very primitive and if you have any kind of trouble walking, this property might present some challenges. Also I thought there would be hiking trails but during the summer due to overgrowth. I was a little disappointed about that because there really wasn't much to do on the property due to the Primitive nature of the yard.

Beautiful, peaceful place to stay

Absolutely loved our stay! Emma is one of the most thoughtful hosts who is always available if you have any questions or needs. The home is beautiful and very thoughtfully equipped with all of the little details taken into consideration. Was one of the most relaxing, recuperative trips — truly loved our stay! Looking forward to staying here again in the near future!

A perfect cabin for our group of friends

This cabin was AWESOME! The location was great as we were close to every place on our list to visit. The cabin had a well-stocked kitchen for our cooking needs and the upstairs bathroom and bedrooms were very comfortable. The bedroom on the first floor was cozy and we had a lot of room in the dining area and living room for relaxing and eating. The owner responded promptly to any question we had. There is so much more to see in RI that when we come back, we will definately stay in this cabin again.

Great vacation rental!!

Stayed here in Sept ‘22. Excellent place to stay! The house was fully stocked with anything that you could probably need or want. The location is quick on and off the highway but at the same time woods are all around. Great to sleep with the windows open, the sounds are amazing!!! Emma was great, very responsive and accommodating and helped us out with a special request. Would defiantly stay here again. The beach is beautiful!

Great location!

I have stayed at numerous places for the past 10-15 years in Rhode Island and am very familiar with this area. This location is one of the best equipped, with one of the nicest kitchens we have stayed at. We all enjoyed our stay immensely. The location was excellent as it was close to all the areas we normally go to. All were within 7 minutes of each location in both directions. The access road was a bit tricky to get into but by day 3 we were able to figure out where it was on Route 1. The owners were very easy to work with. We had a bit of trouble in one of the bathrooms (user error) and the owner was very easy to work to fix it and very timely. The only thing that I would say that could improve the location would be an outdoor shower to clean off after the beach before entering the home. The other is more of a preference on our end, but I found the bed to be harder than what I am used to. I would definitely stay here again and would bring a pillow-top for the mattress if I am ever fortunate enough to stay here again.

A Great Getaway By the Beach, in the Woods

We had an amazing time at this rental, stayed for over a week in April of 2022 while having work done on our house. It's remote and very quiet, exactly what we were looking for, yet is just minutes from southern RI's beautiful beaches and seafood. A spacious, clean layout and full kitchen made it a great place to just take it easy and enjoy the peace and quiet. Within about a 10 minute drive are downtown Wakefield or Narragansett, both of which offer many great dining experiences. Many beaches and coastal hiking/state parks are within mere minutes of the property as well. Above all else, the property manager was one of the most friendly and helpful people I've ever dealt with. I cannot recommend this enough if you're looking for some quiet relaxation, yet with plenty to explore in the immediate area.

a perfect spot in the forest near the beach

pretty much immediately after stepping in I knew I would want to come back. the space, and the light are amazing, it's really accessible to a lot of things, and the kitchen is one of the best stocked I've seen in a long time.

Perfect getaway

This house is perfect! Beautiful location in the woods with the sounds of frogs & birds coming in the windows. Very close to great beaches. Kitchen had everything we needed. We had a wonderful time!

Hidden gem off the beaten trail!!

Location, location, location. What a great house tucked in the woods. 8 mins away we were fishing off the surf. Weather was great all week, the fishing “ so so “. That’s not why we’re here. Thank you for letting us stay here. I can’t wait until next year. I will definitely keep in touch.

We were looking for a home near the beach and were blown away by this wonderful property. With family ties in the area, we have spent every summer in Matunuck, and were thrilled to find a place to call our own. The natural beauty of this spot is evident year-round, but it is particularly gorgeous in May and June, when rhododendrons, laurels, and water lilies cover the area. What really sold us was the view of the little pond covered with lilies from the second floor sleeping porch.

This home has a wonderful balance of feeling away from it all, surrounded by calm and hearing nothing but wildlife, yet in minutes, you can be right in the middle of the action. Whether you are interested in beach time, kayaking on a local pond, or trying one of the many amazing local restaurants, you can get there in 20 minutes or less.
