We enjoyed our stay at Le Pidou. The house is situated at the foot of the hill on which the chateau of Saint Michel de Montaigne is built. The house is not overlooked, the nearest neighbours are across fields, so the environment is very rural and peaceful. The main house itself is very old, with dark, smoky interiors and a lot of uneven stone steps between different levels and also two quite scary wooden staircases. The annexe consists of several rooms which lead one into the next, accessed from the veranda or gardens. The property is well-equipped and the garden, covered veranda and swimming pool are great assets. The furniture is well-used, more shabby than chic, but the beds are comfortable.Not recommended for families with small children, asthmatics, or those with balance or mobility problems. Animal lovers and vegetarians may find the hunting lodge style décor not to their taste, but it is very much part of the local culture. The nearby village community is very friendly and welcoming and the local wines were very pleasant. There is a good supermarket at nearby Castillon-la-Bataille. The town of Saint-Émilion and the market at St. Foy la Grande were local highlights.
