A delightful week enjoying the beauty of Calvi
With just one week available to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary, and, having been highly recommended to visit Calvi in Corsica, we discovered this bright and comfortable apartment from 'Home Away'.
On entering into the sitting room with adjoining kitchenette, there is a lovely vista of the impressive mountains which form a chain around the island, viewed from the terrace and garden. All is decorated in whites and neutrals which impart an airy maritime feel to the place. The sofa and beds were comfortable, the kitchen had a good sized fridge/freezer and there were plenty of glasses, mugs and plates available (so washing up didn't have to take place too regularly !!).
Of course there will always be a few niggles, and we mention these only because we hope 'Fred', the owner, may attend to some of these in due course.
We actually did not meet Fred. Nor anybody for that matter upon arrival or departure... we simply let ourselves in and left in the same manner. Being owners of a chambres d'hôtes in France, we found this a little bit of a black point and would have understood if a reason for his absence was given; so there was no welcome or goodbye. The shower is not big, so having 2 wall shelves inside does not assist movement; also the wall bracket for the shower head was broken and repaired with a cork.... now is the time to replace. Our last concern was the fact that the large sliding doors onto the terrace would not lock, making it necessary to roll down the electric blinds every time you left the apartment for the sake of security to your belongings.
A couple of additions would have been welcome and thoughtful, like a fan in the bedroom, as the weather was on the brink of becoming VERY hot, and maybe a simple beach umbrella to take out, as we found the sun quite fierce on the beaches (of which were some of the best we have ever been to!).
We will say that in no way did these niggles detract or make our stay uncomfortable or unenjoyable at this well-positioned property just 10 minutes walk into the stunning town and harbour of Calvi.
