Welsh Longhouse for 15 | Hot Tub, Pizza Oven & Dark Skies

Welcome to Fronlwyd Longhouse, Some places are simply somewhere to sleep.
Fronlwyd is somewhere to gather.

Hidden among the rolling hills of the Cambrian Mountains, our beautifully restored 400-year-old Welsh longhouse sits within almost five acres of private gardens, woodland and meadow, offering space, peace and complete privacy for families and friends to spend precious time together.

Sleeping up to 15 guests across seven bedrooms, Fronlwyd is made for birthdays that deserve celebrating properly, family reunions, walking weekends, Christmas escapes, milestone anniversaries and those increasingly rare occasions when everyone manages to be in the same place at the same time.

Here, mornings begin with coffee overlooking the hills, afternoons drift into countryside walks and evenings finish beneath a sky filled with stars from the warmth of the wood-fired hot tub. It's the kind of place people remember long after they've unpacked. A House Made for Being Together.

One of the first things guests comment on is how easy the house is to live in.
Unlike many large holiday homes, Fronlwyd doesn't feel like a converted venue or a collection of bedrooms attached to a kitchen. It feels like a proper home, one that's evolved over hundreds of years and now welcomes groups looking to slow down and reconnect. The spacious lounge becomes the place everyone naturally gathers after a day exploring. The dining area comfortably seats your whole group for celebrations, Sunday lunches and noisy board-game tournaments. The double kitchen makes cooking for large numbers genuinely enjoyable, with plenty of room for several people to prepare meals together while others chat over a glass of wine.

Whether you're cooking a full Sunday roast, sharing homemade pizzas or ordering in local catering, there's space for everyone to join in.
Evenings You'll Talk About For Years

As daylight fades, Fronlwyd becomes something rather special.
Light the wood-fired hot tub and watch the first stars appear.
Cook pizzas in the outdoor oven while children run around the gardens.
Fire up the barbecue on warm evenings.
Gather around the fire pit with blankets and marshmallows. Then look up.

With very little light pollution, the night sky here is extraordinary. On clear evenings the Milky Way stretches overhead, thousands of stars become visible and meteor showers regularly put on spectacular displays.
Guests often tell us they expected to spend most of their holiday exploring Mid Wales. Instead, they found themselves perfectly happy staying exactly where they were.

Britain's Best-Kept Secret
The Cambrian Mountains are often described as the last true wilderness of Wales. Less crowded than many better-known destinations, they offer mile after mile of quiet roads, dramatic scenery, hidden valleys and peaceful walking trails.
You're also perfectly placed for exploring:
• Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park
• Lake Vyrnwy
• Hafren Forest
• Clywedog Reservoir
• Pistyll Rhaeadr, one of Britain's tallest waterfalls
• The market towns of Machynlleth and Llanidloes
• Aberdyfi and the beautiful Cardigan Bay coastline
Whether you're climbing mountains, spotting dolphins, browsing independent shops or simply enjoying scenic drives, Fronlwyd is an ideal base.

Exceptional Dark Skies
We're passionate about our night skies.
Our part of Mid Wales enjoys some of the darkest skies in Britain, making it a favourite destination for stargazers, photographers and anyone who has forgotten just how many stars can actually be seen.

We've even partnered with a local astrophotographer who offers private stargazing experiences and night photography sessions, giving guests the opportunity to experience our skies through expert guidance.

It's an unforgettable experience for adults and children alike.
Wildlife on Your Doorstep
Nature doesn't begin at the end of the driveway.
It starts outside the window.
Depending on the season you may see:
• Red Kites soaring overhead
• Buzzards
• Great Spotted Woodpeckers
• Owls hunting at dusk
• Foxes
• Badgers
• Hares
• Bats
• Lizards basking in the sunshine
• Cuckoos calling across the valley

Each season brings something new, making repeat visits feel wonderfully different.

Dog Friendly Holidays
Dogs are very welcome at Fronlwyd because holidays are better when the whole family comes. With peaceful lanes, woodland walks and miles of countryside to explore directly from the doorstep, they'll love it just as much as you will.
Sleeping Arrangements

Fronlwyd comfortably accommodates up to 15 guests across seven bedrooms and four bathrooms, making it ideal for large families and groups without anyone feeling cramped.

Whether grandparents prefer quieter rooms, children want to share or couples would like a little privacy, there's a flexible layout to suit almost every group.

Perfect For
• Multi-generational family holidays
• Birthday celebrations
• Christmas and New Year gatherings
• Walking holidays
• Friends catching up
• Yoga and wellbeing retreats
• Photography weekends
• Stargazing breaks
• Relaxing countryside escapes

Our Story
Fronlwyd isn't a holiday complex built for tourists.
It's a much-loved family property that we've carefully restored over the years while preserving the character that makes it unique. Rather than creating something ultra-modern, we've chosen to celebrate its history, keeping the warmth, charm and quirks of a traditional Welsh longhouse while providing the comfort today's guests expect.

Every improvement we make is guided by one question: "Will this help people spend better time together?"

That's why so many guests return.
Not because everything is perfect.
But because Fronlwyd feels real.
It feels peaceful.
It feels welcoming.
And for a few precious days, it feels like home.

Great family getaway.

The property is in a great location, set in the Welsh mountains and countryside. The property is very spacious and the outdoor area is superb with arces of woodland, play area for the kids and a hot tub to relax in. The owners of the property were very helpful and friendly.

great family stay

well stocked kitchen and plenty of space - cool rooms downstairs in the heat and great out door space for eating and relaxing in the hot tub. Children's play area could do with a bit of maintenance as rather overgrown but Adam was a very obliging and helpful host.

Llanbrynmair

We felt that the facilities advertised were not as expected. The wood fired hot tub took hours to heat up and then the jets weren’t working. When I mentioned this to the owner, he told me they haven’t worked for a while but to trust him when he said it was better without the bubbles! It spoilt the effect so we didn’t bother with it after that. The ‘state of the art’ cinema barn was very dirty and uninviting, and doubled as a workshop, so we didn’t bother with that either.

Eroding Stones

We had an absolutely brilliant stay. The hosts Adam and Vickie were great and responded to our every need. The house was comfortable, had everything we needed and space for everyone to do their own thing as well as large rooms to get together. The outside space was great too with plenty of room to relax and play. Holly the Collie and Barry the pig were great hits with the children and adults alike. The pizza oven and hot tub also provided lasting memories of laughter and fun. The surrounding area had something for everyone from young children to oldies who liked sightseeing and walking. Altogether a very pleasant stay which gave us lots to do and some very special memories. The Stone family.

Luxury in the countryside

We rented this house as a base to stay at for the weekend of our wedding. We couldn't have rented a more perfect place! It has remarkable views that can be enjoyed from the hot tub and garden, and a large kitchen that's beautifully designed and a perfect place for people to relax and cook together. The different annexes in the house offer lots of space, with wonderful bedrooms. My (and all of the guests!) favourite was the soaking tub in the main bathroom, and the ensuite for the double room. All rooms are large, with blackout shutters on the windows for maximum sleep. The lounges are comfortable, and the decor of the dining room is unbeatable. The drive to the house offers amazing scenery, which our American guests loved! And Adam was always on hand with anything we needed. Will definitely be returning again!

Amazing house for a large family group ranging from 9 months to 74 years old

Our family of 18 stayed here last week and had a wonderful time. We are all outdoor people and loved the location. I worried that we had over filled the house but it was perfect. The babies shared with their parents and 2 slept in the 2nd lounge and were comfortable. The beds were super (was told that the double bed with ensuite was a little uncomfortable), the kitchen was very, very well equipped including large fridge freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer which was put to good use after a very wet climb up Cadair Idris. The pizza oven and hot tub were great fun and the enclosed garden was ideal for the 2 dogs. 4 bathrooms were plenty, loads of hot water, and the extra utility room made cooking and clearing away at mealtimes easy without getting under each other's feet. We had 7 cars between us and there was plenty of parking space. The entrance hall has room for wet boots, coats, soggy rucsacks and dog towels. Our favourite feature has to be the loooong dining table! Amazing! We actually sat all 18 of us (2 high chairs included) around the table with enough elbow room. We walked to the pub in Llanbrynmair (approx 3 miles) and met a rather interesting landlady and visited Aberdifi beach which was huge, sandy and has a dog friendly area. If you want local amenities like shops, pubs and restaurants within walking distance this may not be the place for you, but if you want beautiful surroundings, comfy living and sharing food and wine with your friends or family go stay here. We loved it.

Great property for families

We stayed at this property for the Feb halfterm. There were three families with kids. The building looks amazing and rustic. The layout of the house means there are 4 bedrooms on one side and 3 on the other. This actually worked out perfectly as the younger kids could be on one side and the older ones could have their own space. The owner, Adam, met us on arrival and helped us settle in. The house has a large dining room and two lounges plus a large kitchen and prep room. So lots of configuration options plus there are games etc to keep everyone entertained. Outside we used the pizza oven (which was a learning experience) and the hot-tub. Unfortunately it was a bit cold to use the cinema barn and I think in the summer months this might be more of a feature. Although we didn't venture far there are plenty of walks around and you don't have to venture far in the car to get to major shops, steam trains and even softplay should you need. Adam was on hand if we needed to ask anything but kept out of out way, he had helpfully answered all my questions prior to the visit. A thoroughly enjoyable stay, only wish we had gone for longer and hopefully will be visiting again.

A lovely house in a fab location

A great time was had by all - 8 adults, 8 children and a dog! House was spacious, very well equipped and in a great location, with a number of walks from the front door. We all enjoyed the hot tub and pizza oven, despite the freezing snow outside! Adam was very welcoming and very accommodating and I am sure we will be back next year.

Fantastic Large House - character, hot tub, pizza!

Wonderful house, gardens and spot! Three families arrived for a New Year family celebration week, and enjoyed hot tub and pizza oven on New Year's eve! The water was still warm, with a quick top up of fire, on New Year's day for another dip. The house is fantastic, spacious and comfortable, but not too fussy or prissy. The funky decor and down to earth feeling made us feel at home. Adam and Vicky were great hosts as well with good communication and guidance by email pre-arrival. The house swallowed up six adults, seven kids and many dogs. Loads to do around the house and garden and plenty to do in the area provided you like beautiful countryside. Highly recommend for a group holiday. Would definitely recommend, and hope we have the chance to go back in the future.

Excellent property, fantastic location and a very warm welcome

We booked the house and canvas bell tent for a long weekend and were extremely satisfied with both. On arrival we were met by Adam, who is very friendly and helpful, he was on hand all weekend but didn't impose and let us get on with our own thing. The house is beautiful, everything was clean, it has a large well equipped kitchen, plenty of bathrooms and very comfortable beds. There are some great local walks although we didn't explore far, we were content relaxing in the garden. Don't forget to bring ingredients for the wood fired pizza oven or your swimming costume. Our highlight was star gazing under a clear night sky while floating in the hot tub, you could even make out the milky way. In short we'd recommend this property and would definitely go back.

Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade

I've known the area all my life, having spent many family holidays, scout trips and school field trips in snowdownia. We were looking for somewhere that was rural and secluded, without being remote, and had bags of character. It was love at first site when we saw Fronlwyd and although she needed a lot of love to bring her into the 21st century we knew there was a beauty of place underneath the 1950s decor.

O que faz essa propriedade ser única?

Fronlwyd is a longhouse with an oak crook frame dating back four hundred years, with original slate flagstones in the kitchen and huge inglenook complete with bread oven. Longhouses were built when the farmer would live in close proximity to his animals and you can still see the door way from the farmers bedroom into what would have been a mezzanine above the stock, so he could check on them easily and ensure no one was rustling them. Some of the original floorboards also remain and make a very interesting, if undulating, floor in one of the bedrooms. Outside there is a lovely view over the meadow towards the hills on the other side of the valley, with several small streams flowing through the property. Whilst the house has been tamed the four acres of grounds consists of meadow that sheep graze on in the summer with the remainder being wild woodland, great for birdlife and den making. A future project will see the farm's former orchard returned to production with local apple varieties that would have once grown here.
