Only 20 minutes from the city of Oporto, " Casa do Sobreiro" was recently renovated and managed to keep the original structure and architecture, which is typical of the Douro region.

An old mill for the production of olive oil was kept intact and is certainly an interesting feature of the Casa do Sobreiro.

In the surrounding area, the focus is on the beache and a small marina with restaurants where you can enjoy the best Portuguese gastronomy.
You can also explore the Douro river cruises.

Spacious well equipped property with stunning views

This is a very spacious property with a pool overlooking The Douro River. The kitchen is well equipped and Luís, the host, and family were helpful and quick to respond to any questions. Thoroughly recommended!

Can’t beat the view

We felt very lucky to have found your lovely farmhouse. The old olive press was very interesting. The house was huge, comfortable, the hosts were very welcoming and the location was perfect for us. It was close enough to Porto, Pinhao, Guimarães, and on a beautiful bend of the Douro River. Thank you so much!

We had a lovely stay in this huge house . Stunning views and in a good position for the village and a few restaurants. Well kitted out huge kitchen . The family were very nice and saw us into the house and were quick to reply to any requests for help . However the garden furniture needs updating as mentioned in previous reviews as do some of the beds . Two of the doubles were uncomfortably hard.

Amazing views, great location

The villa is exactly as pictured and the views are incredible. Melres is a lovely village close to Porto with good local restaurants and supermarkets.

Breath-taking View

We loved our stay at this house! The view is absolutely amazing, the pool is heated and the house is roomy. The bedrooms upstairs have air conditioning and are super comfortable. I highly recommend this vacation destination!

Amazing house, view and location

The house was beautiful and the location perfect. We enjoyed being in the "country" and out of Porto central. The town of Melres is quaint, folks are very nice, and the view of the Douro River lovely. Recommend this house for couples, families and groups. Loved our experience.

Douro Valley Gem Close to Porto

Our family of 5 all enjoyed our stay at the spacious Villa. Close to Porto (20-25 min). Gorgeous views of the river. Water Taxi to enjoy the beach across the river for paddle boarding. We hope to come back again

Amazing location

The house is in the most stunning location - better than the photos! It’s extremely spacious and pretty well equipped. It’s not the most modern and there are a few elements that could be updated, but that’s reflected in the price that you pay. The owner was really helpful and communicative, and shared suggestions for the local area. Would recommend!

Gorgeous home with views over river Douro :)

Had a lovey stay in this beautiful villa which had so much space and the most amazing views over the river. Pictures on site do not do home justice. Able to drive into Porto easily and was also advised that a bus runs hourly from bottom of road to Porto. Came back feeling refreshed and relaxed. Thanks for 'sharing' this home Luis!

Douro and Porto

We loved our stay overlooking the Douro River. What a splendid view; great for early morning coffee or late afternoon wine. It was a quick trip into Porto to enjoy the sites. We approached Porto from the Gaia side. Kitchen is good for making a few meals. This place did not disappoint! Thank you António and Diego.

Wonderful

From start to finish the booking process was easy and answered all my messages. The photos dont do it justice, the villa is beautiful and so big for a family of 6 with wonderful views. We had a perfect holiday and had Diogo to cook for us 1 night which was lovely traditional portugeuse food. Perfect holiday for us all with everything we needed. Thank you!

Good stay

Host was very attentive and communicative. Place is huge and has great views. Loved sitting out in the evening watching the sun go down. Close to small village (Melres) with couple of shops and a supermarket and a beach on the river. Can get a bus (#9) from just up the road straight into Porto - costs 3 euros each way. Uber only 30 euros from airport so case to be made for avoiding the scam of car hire. We had a great stay and would visit again, thanks Diogo.

Lovely Stay in a Beautiful Villa

We were very delayed for our arrival, but the family very kindly waited to show us around the villa. Beautiful location looking over the river. However, there is a bit of road noise which is mostly noticeable early morning. There are a couple of bars/ restaurants a few minutes drive or 15-20 minutes walk with good prices. Lots of walks through the hills. Kitchen has plenty of equipment. Nice bedrooms and bathrooms. Overall a lovely villa in a beautiful location.

Amazing property

As others have said, the photographs do not do this wonderful property justice. This is a very large house on large very private grounds. The views from the pool area and the house over the river Douro are spectacular and really do take your breath away. Luis is a fantastic host, who was there to meet us on check in with his lovely family. He gave us a tour of the house and explained everything. We had an issue with air con while there which was quickly dealt with and communication throughout our stay was very good, always on hand to answer questions and help with local information. The house itself is very well equipped and spacious. We had a fantastic time and would love to return sometime.

Location and views were fantastic as described. The house is very spacious with lots of excellent vantage points. Only a few items not up to par. En-suite bathroom light was not functioning and adequate number of cushions for lounge seating around pool is needed. Pool area could use a new umbrella. Main floor bedroom mattress is very hard. Communication with host prior to and during visit was very good.

Spacious villa with amazing view

Luis was very helpful meeting us at the villa and giving us some local tips. Stunning view - we never tired of looking over the river. Property is much more spacious than it appears in the photos & very comfortable. A minor point but the outdoor furniture could do with a refresh, The house was clean and well cared for. It was great to have such a well equipped large kitchen with 2 ovens, would be perfect for a large group, Kids loved the pool so we spent most of the time at the villa & really enjoyed the outdoor space & drinks on the upper balcony. It’s not a particularly touristy area but we liked that, plus we had combined with a few days in nearby Porto first so were ready to relax. We did go to a local restaurant a couple of times and hired a big paddleboard at the river beach, Luis recommended a vineyard to us but we didn’t manage to visit, although we tried the wine which was lovely! Overall a great stay for a very reasonable price.

Fabulous views!

We had a fantastic week, the views across the Douro were breath taking…we loved to sit with a glass of wine & watch the boats & water sports early evenings. The villa is very comfortable, although we did have issues getting hot water from the taps but had no issues with showers. The pool lights were not working when we were there so not safe at night. This would have been fixed but the electrician was on holiday. There is a wonderful restaurant on the marina front within a 10 min walk…the food is fabulous & the portions are very generous so be careful not to over order. It does get very busy at weekends with the locals so timing is key as you can’t book. The hosts were very friendly & on hand to deal with any queries we may have had. Overall, great place to kick back & relax but a car is a definite must due to location.

It really is all about the view!

Friends of ours rented this wonderful house about one year ago and that is when it caught my eye. We actually planned part of our trip around the house. It is about a half hour drive from Porto and about an hour and a half to Douro Valley. We made day trips to both areas no problem. Our arrival came after a busy and full day in Porto and we all just sighed in relief as we drove into the driveway. The house has a spectacular view of a bend in the Douro River. Watching it change from evening to night to morning was great. We all wished we hadn’t been so busy and could have spent more time relaxing there. We cooked in the well-supplied kitchen two out of three nights mostly so we could eat outside in peace and enjoy the view. The rooms were comfortable and spacious. We had a couple of issues we had to deal with but António was right on it and nothing was a big deal. I know some people want everything to be perfect but seriously the view makes up for any issues that may come up. Hope to stay again!!

Spectacular villa with incredible views - highly recommended!!

One of the most beautiful houses we have ever stayed in. Stunning views of the Douro river from the garden and all the bedrooms of the villa. You can sit back and relax with a glass of port and feast on the view of the river and the surrounding mountains. Our previous vacations in Portugal were on the beach so this was the first time heading inland and we can't believe how beautiful this area is. The villa is a lovingly restored family home with so much history. It was a gorgeous setting for our vacation and reunion with family members. It's close to Porto (about 20 mins drive, longer if you take the scenic route and follow the river road into Porto, which we recommend you do). You can also explore the local area and eat at great restaurants down by the river. The house is very comfortable with everything you need. The owners are lovely and welcoming. Diogo, is an amazing chef and we hired him to prepare a birthday celebration meal for my daughter on our final night. The food was incredible, and the location spectacular; a perfect end to an amazing trip. We highly recommend this villa! We will be talking about our stay for years to come.

Property was as described in the outline. Great location, an amazing view. Lots of room for 3 couples. It was the attention to details that caused us to only rate it 3 stars. Too many little items that need improvement. Main bathroom on 2nd floor smelled, and algae growth at the bottom of the shower door. Lights in upstairs onsuite bathroom not functioning. No toaster in kitchen, had to purchase our own toaster. All the beds except the single beds need the mattresses replaced. Kitchen lacking measuring cups and toaster oven was not working. The seats by the fireplace in the living room, no little tables to put your drinks on. Hopefully you will take these suggestions as ideas to make the villa a true 5 star destination. We did enjoy our stay and all the WhatsApp communication before arrival, while there, and during leaving was excellent. Rick
