Spoil yourself and your loved one(s)..... Snuggle up while looking at the ever changing unobstructed sea view outside.

We have a relaxing, one-bedroom, apartment which is fully self-contained and directly opposite a beach. You can enjoy the views (including stunning sunsets!) either while you are in bed or from your private deck while enjoying a glass of your favourite refreshment.

We are fortunate to live in in an area where, depending on the time of year, you may see a pod of dolphins, or a seal or an orca as you look out to the Bay. Beautiful! Guests have been known to enjoy their breakfast on their deck while watching the dolphin as they pass by.....

Also Whangarei Heads have so many beautiful native birds flying in our trees. I have a compendium in the apartment with photos and a URL link of what the various bird calls sound like. We also frequently hear kiwi in our backyard. (Please see a photo that a guest took of a male and female kiwi that were resident for a few months on the bank next to the Fish and Jandal apartment ).

The apartment is 70m2 and has a spacious bathroom, along with a separate laundry (washing machine). A full modern kitchen with fridge/freezer, ceramic cooktop, oven, microwave and Espressotoria Coffee Maker. The pantry includes basic supplies (including salt/pepper/tea/coffee/sugar/cereal/ground coffee and plunger). Keep warm or cool via the heat pump. There is a Queen bed in the bedroom and a King Single bed in the Lounge. The apartment is ideally suited for a couple or 3 guests buts a roll-away bed or porta-cot (sheets & blankets) can also be provided if required.

The apartment is also close to eateries including The Deck Cafe and McLeod Bay Takeaway(2 minutesā€™ drive). The Parua Bay shops (6 minutesā€™ drive) which has a 4 square (mini supermarket), gym, bakery, bottle store, 2 fabulous cafes (both do breakfast/lunch and dinner options and a wonderful indian takeaway). There is also the highly recommended Parua Bay Tavern which is a 10 minutesā€™ drive way.

McLeod Bay is one of the most popular and picturesque bays along the scenic coast of Whangarei Heads peninsula. We are close to many stunning coastal and mountain walks, including Mt Manaia (to suit all levels of fitness), a marine reserve, and a beautiful surfing beach (Oceans Beach) with its white sand dunes.

Your hosts live in the main house (above the apartment) and will leave you in peace to enjoy your time. However, we can be contacted at any time. We hope we can assist you to have an enjoyable stay on your holiday or brief escape...

Perfect for a couple but comfortable for 3 people (a couple and a child/adult). However, a roll-away bed can be provided.

I booked this on behalf of my sister and her husband when they were visiting from Australia. Their comments were that Fish and Jandal is perfectly located on the shoreline of one of the most attractive parts of New Zealand. Our first impression was wow this feels like a five star accommodation in comparison to our last batch. The view was also beautiful. We will definitely stay here again.

Jacquelinevis a very generous and helpful host. The bed was super comfortable. The whole place is spotless with plenty of well-appointed space with a good kitchen, bathroom, laundry etc. Exceptional location - scenic and beach/swimming access directly across the road. Beautiful sunset on the water views. We cannot fault this and unreservedly recommend you take a break here.

One of the very best!

Jacquiā€™s house was superb in very way. She has thought of everything you would ever need or want in a holiday home. The attention to detail was amazing and the house was scrupulously clean. The view from the house is lovely and the outdoor seating is excellent. Thanks for the suggestions for walks Jacqui, and we did call in at the Utopia coffee shop. It certainly is a unique little cafe.

Jacqueline and John were fantastic hosts and we would highly recommend a stay at the Fish and Jandal! We were greated upon arrival and had a quick rundown of the unit, which was lovely! Jacqueline and John had prepared a breakfast snack for us as they knew we had been travelling and would not make the supermarket. We really appreciated this little touch, which was not at all expected. We would definitely stay here again in a heartbeat! Thanks again for a wonderful stay!

A great place to stay, with every imaginable detail taken care of.. to the chocolates, fresh juice, to the fruit and chopped watermelon and assortment of cakes and goodies that met us on our arrival. Percolated coffee or pod coffee.. the choice is yours. Generous, lovely hosts and the property does not disappoint. The photos do not do it justice. It is peaceful and quiet and the bay is just across the road and the views from the unit are stunning. You wonā€™t be disappointed.

Loved this place!

When we booked this property, we figured it would be a good base for exploring the northland, including Bay of Islands. After we spent some time talking with owners Jacqueline and John we realized we had everything we needed right there in Whangerei Heads and Whangerei. Hikes up Mt Manaia and Mt Aubrey were great - not too long or hard with excellent views and those curious rock formations! We spent another day in Whangerei itself, walking through impressive forests at AH Reed Kauri Park to a waterfall, followed by the sculpture walk in town and a chance to explore the work of the extensive local arts community. And in the evenings we were able to take the owners' kayaks out into the protected McLeod Bay right in front of the property. Swimming there was another treat. The property is very comfortable and well equipped. And making the whole stay extra special were Jacqueline and John, the friendliest and most informative hosts you could ask for! We loved our time here and would happily spend a week or more here if we get the chance to come back to New Zealand.

Wedding Anniversary Holiday @ McLeods Bay

My husband & I booked the Fish & Jandal as it looked perfect for our 25th Wedding Anniversary holiday. We loved the location plus the look of the apartment. We were pleasantly pleased the location was exactly how we imagined it to be. The Decor' was pristine, all the special touches were so special. Even platters with fresh pineapple & strawberries, pasteries , etc... Jaqueline is the perfect host, available if needed & a delightful , friendly person. The unit is well appointed with lounge with an extra bed for relaxing or that extra quest. The modern kitchen is stocked & a really workable space. Bathroom , toilet plus Laundry all spacious & clean. The Bedroom is a real treat with view of the harbour with the opportunity to close the dble sliding doors if privacy is required. The deck area is perfect for that evening glass of wine, friends dropping in or day time R& R . We had 5 days & 4 nights @ McLeods Bay ... the Fish & Jandal left us feeling recharged, revived & the urge to return hopefully in the near future.

A beautifully positioned self-contained apartment opposite a safe sandy bay. Within a couple of seconds of leaving your private deck you can be dipping your toes in the sand or sea. Swim, snorkel, kayak, surf, walk, relax, soak up the sun, and be sportyā€¦.or notā€¦..Relax and enjoy your well deserved break.....maybe you will see dolphins or Orca as they visit the bay. You will also see and hear many of our NZ birds in our nearby trees. During the night you can often hear the Kiwi calling. Whangarei Heads has proudly increased the Kiwi population from 80 kiwi in 2000 to approximately 1,000 kiwi in 2021.
