In the heart of the Boucles de la Seine Normande Regional Nature Park, the Marais-Vernier is a precious natural site unique in France. Formed from a meander that the Seine abandoned thousands of years ago, the Marais-Vernier is now a vast, amphitheater-shaped wetland where visitors can observe the ecosystem from a panoramic tower. From there, you can spot ducks, migratory birds, and swans in flight, and hear the frogs croaking.
In the early morning, at sunrise amid a light mist, the flora and fauna gently awaken.
In the marsh, Mother Nature contemplates herself. Life flourishes, and we are mere spectators. During a stroll, it’s not uncommon to come across Scottish cows and Camargue horses that have acclimated to the area over the years. Along the paths, the thatched-roof farmhouses and orchards filled with apple trees reveal an authentic Normandy, preserved from the hustle and bustle of a world where everything is moving faster and faster.
The house is located 25 minutes by car from Honfleur and near Pont-Audemer, a very pleasant little town. In the heart of the village is a picturesque and excellent restaurant, L’Étampage.
