My wife, dog and I stayed at the mill for a week in early June 2026.The place is an absolute paradise. The piece of land it’s on is huge, with the Boutonne river branching its way throughout and actually under the house (twice). The house itself is really lovely. There are three double sized bedrooms, (one downstairs, two upstairs) all en-suite and a nice, big living room/well-equipped kitchen. Outside there are a number of seating areas, tables and chairs, sun loungers, all of which are great. There’s a boules area, a table-tennis table, lots of other games and things to use. The most amazing thing though is just being there. Walking the paths around the river with the dog, while he’s rummaging on the river bank, crossing the bridges, listening to the Orioles, seeing the flash of the Kingfisher, and watching the fish in the clear water. I haven’t fished for decades, but I took a rod and had fun catching small fish almost every cast. Someone with a little more experience can take on the big ones!Aulnay and its Intermarché (and really lovely Sunday market) is a short drive (fishing bait in the fridge in the sports section), so is St Jean d’Angely and we found a lovely restaurant in Beauvoir-sur-Niort around 15 minutes drive. Further afield are the beautiful Il-de Re and La Rochelle.I didn’t want to leave, nor did my dog. Yohann was an excellent host, always there if you needed him. All in all a truly memorable experience in a truly lovely place. Highly recommended.
