This property was so terrible I had to leave after one night (and the host refused a refund). First, entering into the building required an intercom code sequence more difficult to execute than the Sphinx’s riddle. After about 7 tries I made it in. Returning late that night however, I tried for 45 minutes to no success, leading to help from strangers on the street and a near panic attack (all belongings inside, phone battery low, area had poor cell reception, had to really use the bathroom). Thank goodness a resident happened to be coming home and let me in. Even after replicating a video I later received, when I tried the sequence upon exiting next morning, it still didn’t work.
In addition, the bedding smelled as foul as a New York subway in the middle of August, forcing me to open a window, which made the constant loud street noise worse. I used a towel as my blanket because the duvet smelled so funky. The slats by the mattress also had dirt and dead bugs in them.
Obviously I did not sleep that night. The hosts said maybe the sheets were damp and assured me it had been cleaned, but they felt dry when I touched them. They offered to send a cleaner, but I think the odor issues went deeper than a simple change of sheets.
When I boiled & poured water for tea, some debris came out; the inside of the kettle was coated with grime.
I found my stay unbearable and left early. The hosts chalked it up to “I didn’t like the apartment” and refused a refund. Zero stars.
