Cozy Mountaintop Retreat

Stay in a cozy log cabin located on Shaffer Mountain, a perfect retreat from a busy life. In Bedford County this is located on a flyway for migrating birds. The Allegheny Plateau Audubon Society (APAS) has a Hawkwatch site nearby that is open to visitors during migration

The cabin has an open plan downstairs with a great room, kitchen and view of Bedford County plus a quiet bedroom with a full bed; a small loft has twin beds.

The kitchen includes a stove, microwave plus dishes and cookware.
There is a small sofa and fireplace in main room as well as a bathroom with shower on the main floor. Internet with Netflix and Youtube TV is available. (streaming can be touchy with the remote location)

This location is close to the town of Bedford, local antique shops, the Allegheny Front Hawkwatch as noted and miles of hiking trails. There is also a fire pit at the cabin for relaxing in the evening

We had a great time, peace and quiet with fresh air. The roads leading to the cabin are steep so make sure you check your brake pads because you will need them. This is a lovely place to get away.

This cabin was AMAZING! The view was spectacular! My husband ands I have been to cabins or entire life and this was one of our all time favorites!!! The cabin itself was perfect for a small family. We will most definitely be back to this location!

Sweetest, coziest, cleanest little cabin we ever stayed at. The birdwatching during spring migration was spectacular with Indigo Buntings and Warblers galore. Will be back.

Despite a very rainy 7 days we had a delightful stay at this very comfy and cozy mountaintop cabin. Communication with our host, Kim, was easy and fast. Furniture was very comfy - indoors and out! And even with the rain forecasted we had plenty of bright spots to go out and explore and the view from inside the cabin was breathtaking - whether clear, foggy or rainy. I will never forget being face to face with a double rainbow! I've attached images showing where the view from the cabin looks like the ocean one day, total clear another day and the rainbow in the afternoon another day. Like a box of chocolates - you never know what you'll get! The day we had to leave was the first one with all blue skies and sun but I wouldn't change a thing. We took the covered bridge tour. If you're a birder the areas of the bridges are great for birding. We spent quite a bit of time at Cuppett. Also went to Shawnee State Park a few times. Beautiful with plenty of birds! We spent the majority of our time at the cabin but also saw quite a bit of the beautiful scenery in Bedford County. Thank you, Kim!

The cabin was great and the view was even better. Everything was excellent from the helpful directions to get there, to the fire pit and well stocked fire starting supplies, and to the kitchen supplies given we did a lot of cooking during our stay. Dog friendly too and my dog loved sitting on the deck and taking in the sights and smells! Highly recommend staying here.

Such a wonderful place to stay for a long weekend away!! The view was amazing! The home has everything you would need. Such a plus to bring our dog as well. We explored three national parks all within close distance. Definitely recommend!!

Gorgeous views from a wonderful cabin! We enjoyed hiking in the mornings followed by relaxing afternoons on the back porch. Plentiful shade in the afternoons and evenings as well as cool mountain temps and breezes.

My name is Kim, and I am a high school principal. I enjoy spending my free time with my family and pets. My husband Bo, is a musician, professor and radio personality. I have 2 children, Tucker and Sally. We also have 3 dogs- Rosie, Ivy and Vanna and 2 cats, Jennifer and Carlos. Vanna, our Golden Retriever is actually a Facility Service Dog. She goes to work with me every day and spends the day with our students.

I grew up spending time on my parents farm which really promoted my love of nature. My parents started the Allegheny chapter of the Audubon Society and the Allegheny Front Hawk watch, which is open to visitors and about 1/2 hour from the cabin. I consider the cabin a perfect mixture of the farm and the hawk watch, and it is a very special place.
