Girls weekend. Second time staying - the host was so friendly and communicated great. The neighbors were super sweet too. The area is super charming and easy access to downtown Royal Oak and the city.

The house had lots of character, and plenty of space for our group of 6. It snowed twice during our stay, and there was a shovel and ice melt available. We left, and when we returned the driveway and walkways had been cleared. It truly could sleep 10 and everybody be comfortable. The host was very responsive, and the amenities were more than expected. When in the area again we will certainly stay again. Thanks for the hospitality.

July 2024 Visit

We truly enjoyed our stay at this wonderful property. It is located in a beautiful walkable neighborhood with an easy stroll to downtown Royal Oak. The property was clean and well appointed. The host was very nice and attentive to our needs. We would definitely stay again.

Perfect for our Family

We truly enjoyed staying here. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was very well stocked with cookware, etc. The neighborhood was very nice and peaceful. And Matt was a great host who responded quickly to our inquiries. Would definitely rent this house again.

Great house!!

Our whole family (grandparents, parents & two grandkids) stayed in this home. It was comfortable, clean, and the communication with management was top notch!! Super close to several restaurants and grocery store. A cozy home away from home!!

This house is exactly as described! It is comfortable and clean! The house is filled with character and charm and is in a very nice neighborhood. I so enjoyed walking the dogs!

Weekend in Royal Oak

Very charming home and neighborhood. Well-appointed kitchen and beds were very comfortable! We enjoyed some lovely walks in the friendly and quiet neighborhood. House was impeccably clean! Will definitely stay here again if we find ourselves in Royal Oak.

Great time in Royal Oak/Detroit

Had a nice stay! My family was able to spread out and enjoy the space and watch a movie together in the comfy family room. Helpful labels on everything and well-stocked kitchen for essentials and good coffee. Hosts very responsive and helpful. Great feel from Olive's in Ferndale and easy access by car to many areas of metro Detroit.

quiet, charming home

We had a great time at the Gains House. The neighborhood is quiet, safe, and close for walking downtown Royal Oak also close to a market for food items. The house is clean, comfortable and has a great location if you need to hop onto the highways for traveling around. I would definitely stay here in any future travels to Michigan!

Great central spot

Visiting family over the holiday who are spread out across the city. Nice central spot. Managers were highly communicative and checked in to ensure things were okay. The beds are comfy. Lots of room to spread out for a family of four (or more).

Had college friends from out of town get together. House amenities, size, accommodations, and location were ideal. The check-in, check-out, and communication were great! Overall, had excellent experience!

Great little spot!

My husband and I took the kids to Royal Oak for some shopping and to catch up with friends. Everyone really enjoyed how cozy the house felt, and we all agreed the beds were super comfy! It's located in the cutest neighborhood—very safe and just a short distance from downtown. I especially loved the "stone living room" because it was incredibly cozy and inviting. While it was a bit cold, my husband and I still enjoyed sitting in the back yard every once in a while as well. We’ll definitely be back to stay here on our next visit!***Matt was extremely helpful and easy to communicate with.

Great house in great location!

Our family came to town to celebrate a relative’s birthday. We truly enjoyed our stay in the home. There was plenty of room for all 9 of us (6 adults and three teenagers). Everything was super clean and comfortable. Checkin was easy. Matt, the host, was very helpful. The location is perfect - close proximity to downtown Royal Oak, which has tons of shops and restaurants. Streets and sidewalks are great for running/walking. We’d highly recommend and will stay here again next time we’re in the area!

Home Away from Home

Work visit

Gains House is a cute home located in a quiet Royal Oak neighborhood. The only drawback was a spotty internet connection. Matt tried to help me troubleshoot the issue over the phone, but it continued to be a problem. Aside from that, all my expectations were exceeded.

Adorably Quaint

What an awesome little home! I traveled here with girlfriends for a shopping trip. This home met all our needs with easy access and awesome accommodations. All the feels… 1. Matt is super attentive! He checked in with me several times and was very responsive. 2. There are nice extras provided such as bath products, and coffee and tea. 3. The home is beautiful and very well kept and super clean. 4. The beds were very comfortable! We all slept exceptionally well. 5. The neighborhood is very safe and quiet with nice local food options. We would definitely stay here again!

Perfect for family

Super nice house in a super nice neighborhood. Plenty of parking and space. 6 adults had no problems with running into each other or taking showers. Nicely appointed. Beds were fantastic. Cleaner than most 4 or 5 star hotels that I've ever stayed in. Plenty of space for kids. Excellent communication from the owner. If you aren't familiar with the area it's nice and you'll feel safe. Walking distance to downtown royal oak, the fresh approach market is also excellent and within walking distance. Rent this one, you'll be glad you did. We'll rent this place again in the future for sure.

Vintage Royal Oak beauty!

When we were picking a Detroit vacation rental, we wanted a location that was safe, quiet and friendly. This area goes beyond that. It's idyllic. There are folks walking their dogs along the sidewalks, kids playing ball in the yards, neighbors mowing with nearly silent electric mowers, houses decorated for Halloween halfway through September. An ice cream truck went by. The house layout would be quirky in a new house, but is perfect for the 30's vibe - which has thankfully been maintained even as the place has been tastefully updated so that everything works. We can't wait to come back!

Home Base for Corporate Stay

Three of us were due to stay in Royal Oak for almost a full month for work--this property was a DREAM. It made our stay so much cozier than if we had stayed in a hotel. I was able to bring my aging dog as well--the back sunroom den was perfection, as it had direct access to the backyard. Each of us had our own room, 2 sharing a bathroom on main floor, one in the master upstairs. Charming, clean, very user-friendly in regards to access, communication with property management (trash etiquette), as well as full access to laundry, A/C controls, and locked access. The neighbors were kind, helpful, pointing out local dog parks; being able to walk to a dozen of adorable coffee/tea joints was a boon. Great, quiet street, easily accessible, felt secure and relaxed. Older starter home with a posse of smaller stairs, but nothing that was too strenuous. It was easy to find separate areas to decompress throughout the home and back patio/back balcony. Such a treat!

I grew up in the Mitten (that's the state of Michigan) and love to travel. My first international trip was to Kenya and I have loved traveling ever since. I have fished for piranhas in Ecuador, learned Chinese in Beijing and developed software in Germany.

At work I am a software engineering manager in the automotive industry. I love solving problems and working with others to improve an organization.

I have two lovely daughters and a beautiful wife that also like to go on adventures with me. With young children and the pandemic I've had to learn to bring the adventure home. I love cooking authentic ethnic dishes and bringing new flavors into our house.

I started Willow Dwellings as an outlet for these passions. I know what it's like to stay at an awesome place and I work to continually improve the experience for our guests.
