Quiet neighborhood in the hills near a state park. The bed was very comfortable and the nature was relaxing. Overall, the house is comfy, but was a bit dusty. The addition of blinds or curtains would be nice on the first floor.The property is nice, and could be improved upon with a little TLC.

Peaceful get away from the city

We vacationed to St. Louis and wanted to stay outside of the city so we could enjoy our down time in nature. This place is an older home tucked away on the edge of a state park. It was a 30 minute drive from everything we wanted to do (from downtown St. Louis activities, to Eureka, to Meramec River adventures) which was perfect! Because it is an older home, expect creaky stairs and smaller spaces. All the furniture was SO COMFORTABLE! The beds, sofa, and chairs were perfect for relaxing. It was ideal for our family of 3.

Appears to be a work in progress. Some things not really finished. Water and ice not working. No window treatments in most of the rooms. Very little table ware and skillet’s too poor condition to make them useful. The stool in the upstairs bathroom is extremely poorly positioned and the hand towel ring needs to be refastened to the wall. If the vent on the outside were the bird droppings are is supposed to be functional it should have the bird nest removed and a screen put on. If the washout on the edge of the road could be fixed would make entry a little nicer. I will say the workmanship on the flooring, painting, trim are quite good. The lighting could be improved with the use of larger “daylight bulbs”. One of the convenience electric outlets didn’t work in the table area. The addition of an outlet with a USB included would be a nice addition or a multi port plugin to make charging more convenient. In the end it is a nice place to stay. Thank you for sharing!

Very clean, but the living room furniture and the kitchen baking sheets and pans definitely need replacing. The entrance to the driveway has a large pothole that's unavoidable, and the driveway itself is gravel. With all the rain it was just puddles and weeds. The 2 toilets are quite close to the walls when you sit down so a larger person might not be comfortable. The floors were very clean and the beds were clean and comfortable.

A lovely retreat

We really enjoyed our stay here! There were even toys and books in the upstairs closet for our toddler to play with! The upstairs bathroom you two is a bit cramped to sit on, but otherwise a very nice place.

Great house in Ballwin!

My brother and I signed up for pickleball tournament at the Missouri Pickleball Club and stayed in this place with my two nieces who cheered us on. I have been accused of being a snob when it comes to comfort of beds and this place was excellent. My brother took bedroom upstairs with firmer mattress and I took the softer mattress in the downstairs bedroom. The girls had the 2 twins in the third bedroom. Everyone said the beds were very comfortable. We had great time as a family in the house. We cooked breakfast and dinner in the kitchen, made popcorn while watching movies on the smart TV, and talking in the comfy couches in the living room. The owner was very responsive.

Peaceful place outside the city

Cute, quaint, and quiet. Very peaceful and lots of things to do. We went to Hidden Valley and had daughter and bff go skiing!!Best experience ever.

Snow day hideaway

We rented Top of Castlewood to enable us to attend my uncle's funeral in St. Louis at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. We planned to spend a few days visiting local attractions and gathering with our family. Despite our best plans, we had the good fortune of being snowed in at the house for a couple of days. The set up is nice, one bedroom with a queen bed, a bath, the kitchen and living area on the main level, two bedrooms, one queen and one with twin beds, and a bath upstairs. Both bathrooms, though a bit small, feature large showers. There is laundry in the basement area of the home as well, which worked out for us after our teens went out to play in the fresh snowfall. Though our intent was not to be housebound, of course, the home was warm, clean, cozy and inviting. We did have the forethought to get some groceries prior to the snowfall, so we were able to cook and eat there. The kitchen has a fair amount of dishes and cookware, however, the cutlery is not plentiful. In fact, there were only three forks for all six of us. We made the best of it, but if you plan to eat in, buy some disposable forks!! I can wholeheartedly recommend Top of Castlewood as a lovely place to stay in a very quiet, private, off the beaten path area. It worked for our group of six for four days without feeling like we were on top of each other. It feels both seclude and close to everything.

We had to contact the host once we reached the property to get check in instructions. Once inside we found that two of the chairs at the table were unstable and unusable. One of the lamps in the living room did not have a light bulb which made the area dark. We also noticed a couple of windows wouldn’t lock, which was c a little concerning

Inaccurate listing and host was not a people person!

I’ve stayed in a lot of Vrbo‘s with NO issues! This place was one was one of the worst! We were only looking for a place to stay while my daughter was moving into her new house. The place said it could sleep six, but we found out later that if we had more than two, we would be charged for each person. Any questions for the host that we had were met with sarcasm and rudeness. My son and daughter were going to have to bring their dogs and we found out they were going to charge 100 more for the pet fee to an already expensive place for one night. We felt so unwelcomed and tried to cancel to no avail. When we arrived at the house, the thermostat was set at 63 and it’s in the middle of winter. It took quite a while for the house to warm up. There were no amenities, the place was not very clean and there were large marks on the wall. The checkout time was 9 o’clock, it was 9:09 am and the host sat outside and waited for my son to leave while he was taking pictures of the car for some reason. The place was overpriced, and the host was not very accommodating. I would not recommend this place or any place that he is renting!

Comfortable stay.

We had a great stay. The property was as advertised. Dish towles were now included. Quiet neighborhood near the State park hiking. Jim was very attentive to our one request during our 4 week stay.
