Welcome to Cardinal Pointe Station Ranch, our recently remodeled ranch home and a truly unique historical gem with a story that stretches back to the late 1800s. Nestled on this property is a remarkable Historical Marker commemorating its role as a crucial stop on the stagecoach line heading west during that era. The original Wurzbach family ranch house, now the Main House in this listing, has been thoughtfully preserved and updated, offering guests a rare chance to enjoy modern comforts while staying in a place deeply rooted in Texas history.

Historical Marker and Ranch History

As you explore the property, take a moment to appreciate the Historical Marker that stands as a testament to the rich heritage of this land. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, this ranch served as an important waypoint for pioneers and travelers heading west along the stagecoach route. Today, that legacy still shapes the character of the property. The original Wurzbach ranch house remains at the heart of the experience, blending historical charm with the comfort and convenience todayā€™s guests appreciate.

Living Area

Inside, the Main House welcomes you with a spacious and inviting living area centered around a beautiful fireplace. A large dining table seating up to 10 makes this a natural gathering place for meals, conversation, games, and quiet evenings together. Whether you are reconnecting with family, hosting a retreat, or simply enjoying a slower pace, this room was made for gathering.

Kitchen

The kitchen is fully equipped and designed to serve groups well. Whether you are preparing a family breakfast, a holiday meal, or a simple dinner after a long day in San Antonio, youā€™ll find the tools, cookware, and space you need to cook comfortably and enjoy your time together.

Bedroom Setup

The Main House includes comfortable and flexible sleeping arrangements for groups and families. The Master Suite features a luxurious King bed, while the additional bedrooms are furnished with inviting Queen beds. The house also includes additional pull-out beds, and cots are available if needed for extra flexibility. For larger groups, additional private rooms in nearby units on the ranch may also be available.

Bathrooms

The Main House includes 3.5 bathrooms, giving guests plenty of space to get ready and settle in. Several of the bathrooms feature double sinks and roomy layouts, making the house especially convenient for families, wedding parties, retreats, and other group stays.

Scenic Views and Outdoor Setting

The ranch home sits next to the pool and enjoys beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. It is an ideal setting to relax, breathe deeply, and enjoy the natural beauty of the property. Pool Access

Guests have access to the pool and the main outdoor area, which are reserved for the booking guestā€™s group during the stay. This gives your group a private place to relax, swim, visit, and enjoy the property together.

Please note that this is a working ranch, and the ownerā€™s family lives in separate housing toward the back of the property. You may occasionally see them around the ranch, but the guest areas, including the Main House, pool, and primary outdoor spaces, are intended for your groupā€™s private enjoyment during your stay.

Capacity and Group Stays

This property is especially well suited for larger families and groups. The Main House serves as the base of every booking and includes 5 private bedrooms. Additional rooms in nearby units on the ranch may be available depending on your group size and needs. In total, the ranch can sleep over 20 guests comfortably, with room for approximately 26 guests in beds when the full property is utilized with double occupancy.

For those looking to celebrate special occasions such as weddings, receptions, reunions, church gatherings, birthday celebrations, or retreats, we also offer event hosting with prior approval and additional event fees. Great people operating this VRBO. No issues with accommodations except the kitchen/frig is a pretty awkward arrangement, especially for large groups. Updated, classic turn of the century (1900) structure without ruining the "old" effect that we wanted the grandkids to sense. Enjoyed the privacy with any help needed (and there was not any) within earshot. P.S. GG daughter really enjoyed the chickens!

Just right for our family get together!

Our 4 children and their families joined us for a few days. There was room for all of us to stay comfortably. The hosts even had toys and games for all ages, even the babies! We enjoyed the nice pool and outdoor areas. Our stay include a little steel back in time, with the lovely older part of the house. The kitchen/great room area with comfortable and well-appointed and comfortable.

Stay is awesome itā€™s in the country so definitely country vibes! I did host small party for my 15 year old daughter and they loved the house itā€™s historic vibes, property manager did come and greet us he is on the property separate from where we stayed.Pool was awesome at night so beautiful and refreshing!! My kids even got great swim before checking out. My family and friends had so much fun and there is chickens and roosters walking around caught several cardinals and pretty humming bird early in the morning so pretty. The only thing is carpet in the kitchen and living room area however my guest didnā€™t mind taking off there shoes if you are not okay then wear socks.

90th B-day Celebration

This property is exactly what we were looking for to host a special family gathering in San Antonio. The charm and uniqueness of the historic house is so much better than staying in hotel rooms and having the event in a conference center. The free range chickens, cows and especially Daisy and Gus (friendly cow dogs on property) made it feel warm and welcoming and especially fun for the kids. Also, the 1925 thrasher out in the pasture made my dad smile as it was much like what he remembered working with as a young boy on the farm.

Beautiful and Charming

Weā€™ve rented various homes for family vacation for the past 12 years and this was one of my favorite stays. Owner very responsive. Property and house are beautiful and the bedrooms are charming, comfortable and quiet. The air conditioning was good even on the 2nd floor. Pool very nice, but wish the door that allows direct access was working. Family dog was so sweet, but she does roam the property so going around and getting in and out of the pool gate was a bit worrisome until we got to know her. We traveled with 11. The kitchen was adequately stocked, but might call ahead if youā€™re cooking for a larger group. I rated this house a 4/5 because all the hardbacks chairs are uncomfortable and not very sturdy. Same for the outside furniture in the fireplace section. Thanks for sharing your lovely home with us.

A bit of Texas history

The pool was refreshing with the temperatures and heat index so high. The upstairs air conditioner went out the first night and we emailed Walter at 11 pm and he had it working by 12:45 am. Enjoyed the queit country setting complete with ducks, dog, cat, and a few deer.

Family Reunion

Our family had a wonderful reunion at Cardinal Pointe Ranch. The 100 year old ranch house is beautiful and is filled with antiques and collectibles. It was very comfortable except for an issue with the upstairs A/C. However, this was fixed as quickly as possible. The property is beautiful, and we enjoyed it very much. The owners were responsive to questions and comments. Although the ranch is close to the city, it felt like we were out it the country. Lovely place! Thank you, Walter!

Perfect for our family of 8 adults, 2 kids under 8 years

We enjoyed our stay! I love old houses and this one was so fun to stay in a few days. Everyone enjoyed the pool that we stayed in too long and several of us were sun burned. Daisy the ranch dog is so sweet. She would hang around when we sat outside. She is a true country dog. My little pom actually chased the chickens. They were bigger than she is!!! If you stay here, you must remember it is a 1906 house and a working ranch. Thatā€™s what makes it so unique! We had a great time! You can also drive into Castroville for great BBQ at Blu Lacey BBQ. Phenomenal is all I can say about their food!!
