The nearby picturesque town of Koroni, with its beautiful harbour, tavernas and cafés, offers a nice change from the quiet Gargarou surroundings. The towns of Pylos and Methoni on the western side of Messinia also have a special charm.
In the coastal area between Koroni and Pylos there are still many unspoilt, fine sandy beaches.
