Looking for an escape from the chaos and noise of the big city? Wish you could walk Main Street and see friendly faces, grab a cup of locally roasted coffee, a cute gift shop, a cafe, restaurant, historical society and museum and more? You’ve found it.

Visit this sweet little brick and mortar shop turned Main Street haus and enjoy the good life in Lakefield, Minnesota. Located just 20 minutes north of the Iowa Great Lakes and Okoboji area this town may be small but it is packed full of good people and memory making experiences.

Enjoy the towns gift shops and boutiques… and walk down to the south end of Main Street to dine at the newly renovated American eatery which includes four old school original bowling lanes. Lakefield also boasts a coffee roastery (which just opened July 2022) bakery (conveniently located right next door to the Modern Heirloom Haus💁🏻‍♀️) a butcher shop, a scratch made cheesecake shop + beautiful aquatic center. We're also home to Sparks Park located on the edge of town and are just a few miles from the gorgeous Kilen Woods State Park - a perfect spot for a day trip to hike, explore, and enjoy the beauty of southwestern Minnesota.

You can also visit the local cult classic supper club opening July 2022 - A Lakefield staple for more than 50 years this recently renovated supper club will offer a unique dining experience with fantastic food + cocktails.

Perfect place to stay!

We loved our stay at the Haus. It was so clean and welcoming and Alyssa is a great host! Everything you need for a weekend away and walking distance to a lot of places. We will look to come back!

Family Visit

It was so nice to have a "home away from home". I so enjoyed staying at the Haus. Loved having a kitchen so I could have a leisurely breakfast. Will definitely stay again!

Gathering of Thankfulness

Being from Lakefield it was a true joy to share this space with family this Thanksgiving as they visited for the holiday. Very welcoming, cozy, and clean. Would highly recommend the experience.

This is my second stay here. I love it! So comfortable, nicely decorated, and super convenient location for my needs. Can't wait to stay again. Alyssa & Jordan have done a wonderful job making this place a delight to stay in. Communication with them is excellent.

Great place to stay!

We stayed for a long weekend with our 3 young kids. The place has so many unique features, being an old historical building. It’s well updated, very clean and had everything we needed to be comfortable. A great location, quiet but still near lots of places to eat, a grocery store, and fun things to do. Also, only 20 minutes to Okoboji. Thank you to the owners for great communication during our stay! We’ll be sure to come back soon!

Haus away from home

We absolutely loved staying at the Haus! Everything from amazing decor and a great location to fantastic hosts, this property was fantastic. Alyssa has thought of everything and all the small things made it so special (a high quality blow dryer, Lakefield nostalgia, and so many little treasures). We loved exploring all the new business in downtown Lakefield and will have this at the top of our list when we visit again. Couldn’t recommend highly enough.

The Haus is the perfect addition to Lakefield

Host Alyssa has done a great job creating a welcoming space in downtown Lakefield. It’s a quaint space that has all the things needed for a stay in small town Midwest, with a cozy feel accomplished by all the localized heirloom touches. A perfect location next to Z’Bakery and a few blocks from Sojo’s coffee and Dudley’s garage. It served as a great place to spread out when all kids and grandkids were home visiting, having outgrown our childhood home where parents/grandparents still reside. We have already made a reservation for our next stay.

They went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and comfortable🤗 sweetest little hideaway in Lakefield away from the crowd but close enough to just about anything; lakes, parks, shopping or just stay in Lakefield and enjoy dinner, drinks and music at Dudley's 😃!!

An adorable Haus away from home

My family and I recently stayed at this small, quaint “Haus” and we couldn't have been happier with our experience. The space was immaculately clean and well-maintained, making us feel right at home from the moment we walked in the door. The decor was charming and cozy, with thoughtful touches throughout that added to the overall ambiance. Despite its small size, the VRBO was surprisingly spacious due to the layout, and it had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The bed was comfortable and the linens were soft and luxurious, ensuring a good night's sleep every night. The sofa in the living room pulled out to sleep 2. The teenagers approved and said it was comfortable and they loved setting up their own space at night so they could come and go through the front , stay up late and watch tv and not bother us. Then it was easy to put away in the morning for a nice spacious living room. The kitchen was well-equipped with all the necessary appliances and utensils. The full size washer and dryer a bonus. One of the things we loved the most was its location. It was situated right on Main Street making it easy to explore the area and enjoy everything the town had to offer. Also only a 20 min drive to Okoboji for a day trip. Overall, we would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing getaway. It's the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy some much-needed rest and relaxation.

Incredible Gem

The Haus is such an incredible gem!! My sons and I vacation in Okoboji at least once each summer. This summer we had the pleasure of staying at the Haus. It's a gorgeous yet cozy space and has a quaint small town vibe right outside the door. Alyssa has cared for all the small details to make you feel welcome and enjoy your stay. I would highly recommend staying at this treasure!!

Hey friends! We're Jordan + Alyssa Burmeister... high school sweethearts, parents to four girls, and area locals who love sharing this sweet little town of ours with guests from near + far.

This building is one of the oldest on Main Street and has served as a doctor's office, bar, liquor store, optometrist office, clothing store, hair salon, flower shop + more during it's life on Main St. Most recently it was home to Modern Heirloom, Alyssa's brick + mortar shop featuring beautiful modern finds + heirloom and vintage treasures. We've decided to flip the shop into a fun little space to host overnight guests who want to come and discover all this town of just 1700 people has to offer. Just 20 minutes north of Okoboji, Iowa and the Iowa Great Lakes this is the perfect spot to enjoy small town life while also being able to take a hop, skip + a jump down to a favorite tourist summer destination.

Modern Heirloom Haus may be tiny but it's been fully updated to include a full kitchen, bathroom + gorgeous main living space. Located right on the corner of Main + 3rd it's a great spot to see all the comings and goings on of small town life. We know you'll fall in love with Lakefield and can't wait to have you live the Lakefield life for yourselves.
