Sobre esta propriedade
ArtBonavista Oceanfront Retreat.
PLEASE NOTE: This property will be on the real estate market from May 2026 onwards and not available for rental for 2026.
This new, 2022, modern, artist designed, ocean front property. ArtBonavista Retreat is a contemporary design of the traditional Newfoundland Salt Box Houses. It is casual luxury with a distinct European flair. Upscale and eclectic. Filled with antiques, vintage, original art and huge windows for ocean viewing. European linens, duvets, German china, cutlery, etc. A designated working space for those of you who have to being your office along. A gas range for the chef’s at heart. ..... The pantry is stocked with basics for your use. Open complex with comfortable seating areas for lounging or watching movies on Apple TV. The Loft has a queen size bed with sea to sky view...private 1/2 bath and lots of room for yoga, Pilates, and/or whatever relaxation method you choose, plus a library of books for you to read. The main floor bedroom has a queen bed and black out curtains, the downstairs bedroom is completely private with it's own full bathroom. The house, and garden across the street is Bonavista’s best viewing spot for icebergs, whales, fishing boats heading out to sea, plus, the spectacular sunsets Bonavista is known for. Sit out front with a book, a glass of wine, or a local beer, get the firepit ready for an evening around the fire, listening to the crashing of the waves on the rocks below. We have the million dollar view.
We try to be as sustainable as possible and support local as much as possible. We “ iron in the wind “ you’ve probably seen the Newfoundland tourism ad’s of laundry on the clothes lines. Basics for you to use, locally made soaps by East Coast Glow and the fabulous salt by Newfoundland Salt Company to name a few. When in season, Doreen pops by with organic veggies you can buy directly from her. The entire house is filled with original art, much of it local, vintage and quirky "stuff". We do not charge a cleaning fee and thus ask our guests to leave the house clean and tidy please. The sunset photographs, are taken from the garden, no filter! The Bonavista Peninsula is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and there is so much to do on this wonderful peninsula. You can contact me anytime for more info. ABSOLUTELY No PETS of any kind. Maximum initial rental period is 90 days.
This entire house (with downstairs studio...check it out ) is FOR SALE. Oceanfront for only US$ 450,000. I'm spending 1/2 my year back in Europe, yeahhhhhhh. DM me for details.

Sobre o anfitrião
Anfitrião: Ruth Weller-Malchow
I was born and raised in Toronto, left on a two-week holiday and finally moved back to Canada, to Newfoundland, February 2015. The years in between I lived in Venezuela, Berlin and Munich where I raised my now 26-year-old amazing daughter, Emilia-Louisa.
I had bought a sweet heritage salt box, “Alice House” in the classic CFA (Come from Away) story we hear about, on my first afternoon, in Bonavista, 2006. I immediately fell in love with this town, even though it had not begun its transformation to the “must visit location” in Newfoundland & Labrador
In 2010 I moved part-time to Bonavista for the summers, running the shop/gallery part of Neil’s Yard, the fore runner to the next generation of coffee/tea/restaurants and shops now located in Bonavista. My studio was upstairs, the shop carried the beautiful crafts of Newfoundland & Labrador Craft Council members, and we held many cultural events including monthly art exhibitions and readings by Newfoundland authors.
I’m an artist/maker, member of the Newfoundland & Labrador Craft Council & VANL-CARFAC.
I moved to Bonavista from Munich to head Bonavista Creative, part of Bonavista Living, for its first 2 years, bringing you new shops, restaurants, and many arts related projects.
Next came the Bonavista Biennale 2017 of which I am an original steering committee member, and for which I was the location scout and community coordinator.
Check out their site for all updates for Bonavista Biennale 2023.
The photo is of my daughter, Emilia-Louisa and my late beloved Papi who stood behind me on what most thought were crazy endeavors. He completely "got it" and was all for my idea of building the ArtBonavista Retreat. I'm so glad he still got to see the beginning of this project. xxx

Because it is, by far, the number one place to stay in Bonavista....

The house, and its garden across the street, are the best viewing spots for icebergs, whales, fishing boats heading out to sea, and the spectacular sunsets Bonavista is known for. ArtBonavista Retreat has the million-dollar view.
