There are some definite highs and lows to this property. The positives: The location is fantastic. Duke’s restaurant is right by the pool, and it’s just a short walk to the nearby food trucks for a delicious cold-brew iced coffee and a breakfast croissant in the morning. You're also right at the start of the beautiful 1.5-mile paved beachfront walking path. The hotel lobby is attractive, welcoming, and well maintained. The condo itself has some great features, including a full kitchen, a convenient washer-dryer, and a terrace with a beautiful view of the volcano. The negatives: Unfortunately, the condo is long overdue for a refresh. The decor feels stuck in 2010, and it doesn't appear that much has been updated since then. While the beds are clean, the carpeting, walls, moldings, flooring, and furniture all show considerable wear and tear. Overall, the unit feels tired and somewhat shabby, and a cosmetic makeover would make a world of difference. The pool is nice but crowded in early fall. The beach is for viewing boating and fishing. Not swimming - as the coral reef poses dangers to wounds and the water is polluted with staff. Look for safer beaches that have volcanic shelf for ocean swimming such as Napili or Wailea. Bottom line: You really can't beat the location, views, and conveniences, but the condition of the condo falls short of what the setting deserves. With some thoughtful renovations and updated furnishings, this could be a truly wonderful place to stay.
