Already on arrival you will fall in love with this area.
You drive through a picturesque moraine landscape in the rolling hills and vast forests alternate.
Already from a distance you can enjoy the view of the Baltic Sea on the horizon.
From the moraine landscape into the hustle and bustle of the former fishing village.
Whether you watch the fishermen at work in the morning, or enjoy the tranquility of nature on the Salzhaff, or find the "treasure of the sea", the amber.
Be enchanted by the varied coastal area with its cliffs, natural beaches, the rushing Baltic Sea surf and the calm waters in the lagoon.
But you may also be attracted by the Haffplatz and the promenade with numerous cafes and restaurants.
If you have ever wanted to know what it's like to be in the middle of the sea, then you should not miss the pier.
With its 170 meters, it is a must for every visitor.
Not far from the pier lies the Schmiedeberg, the remainder of an old Slavic castle wall and lies between the Baltic Sea, Salzhaff and the "forbidden" peninsula Wustrow.
Here you can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view.
Not far away you can go on board and visit the "forbidden" peninsula Wustrow from the boat. The peninsula has been closed to the public since 2004. From the boat you can still see some parts of the former garden city. But fauna and flora conquer their kingdom back.
A special highlight in Rerik is the early Gothic St. St. John's Church. The 1250-1270 built village church, with its square tower and the "Bischofsmütze" it is unique in the whole of northern Germany. It still serves as a very important landmark for fishermen and boatmen today.
Various extensions in the 17th and 18th Century formed the today's picture of the church.
A little bit outside of Rerik you will find a little piece of history.
In the years 3500 to 2900 BC around Rerik emerged around 8 megalithic tombs, so-called "megalithic tombs", a consequence of the peasant life in the Neolithic period and the associated new cultural ideas. They are among the oldest human structures of the landscape that are still preserved today. Definitely worth a trip.
