This property allows only electric golf carts for transportation. Note that a passenger ferry is necessary to reach Daufuskie Island, and we can assist with logistics, including golf cart rentals and ferry reservations (fees apply).

The Neighborhood:

Location, location, location! The beautiful and spacious Carolina Cottage provides its lucky renters with a front row view of the Atlantic Ocean that has to be seen to be appreciated. Talk about a WOW factor!! Imagine yourself driving on your rented golf cart through a quiet road lined with Live Oaks draped with Spanish moss, pulling up to the back entrance of your vacation home, walking into your bright and spacious living room, and being greeted with a dazzling panorama of the ocean and blue sky just beyond. Trust us…It just doesn’t get any better than this!



You will find yourself strolling from your cottage to the beach over and over. This pristine and secluded beach is perfect for long walks, jogging, and even bike riding. (No golf carts here, though! This is a nesting area for the endangered Loggerhead Turtles.) Families especially enjoy the relatively calm waters where children can swim and play without fear of a strong undertow. It’s a great beach for building sand castles and hunting for shells and sand dollars after the tide goes out.



The wildlife is abundant and breathtaking. The resort is the home of a Great White Egret rookery, where you will see hundreds of these graceful birds settle in for the night. A nest of American Bald Eagles can be seen now and then, and some lucky visitors can actually catch site of a Loggerhead Turtle coming ashore to lay hundreds of eggs in the soft sand.



You will want to spend time exploring the rest of this unique and special island. Accessible only by ferry, Daufuskie's isolation from the hustle and bustle of the mainland provides a one-of-its-kind experience for those looking to truly get away from it all.



Getting Around:

We will be happy to help facilitate ground transportation and a cart rental for exploring the island. Bikes are also available for rent.

NOTE: It is necessary to take a passenger only ferry to Daufuskie Island. We can help you with logistics by providing options for renting an additional golf cart, booking ground transportation and ferry reservations. Fees Apply.



PET POLICY:



Well-behaved canine family members are welcome, but must be adult dogs, housetrained, must stay off of furniture, not be incessant barkers, and must be friendly towards humans and other dogs. Upon departure, the vacation home should look as though no pet had been in it, including removal of pet hair. There is a pet fee of $125 for one dog, and $175 for two dogs.



In addition, the property manager must approve all pet requests. Your dog must be over one year old, not be aggressive towards people or other pets, be house trained, will not get up on the furniture, and is ok with being left alone when you are away from the cottage (e.g., no incessant barking or destructive behavior). We also ask that you be a responsible pet owner when the dog is outside, that there will be no signs that your pet was in the property when you depart, and that you will be responsible for any damage and/or extra cleaning caused by your dog.



1) Daufuskie Rental Group makes a good faith effort to describe island amenities, including restaurants and pools. However, please note that we are not responsible for the availability of amenities that we do not operate and that are beyond our control. Please contact the vendors directly for rates, days and hours of operation. Amenities are not included and fees apply.



2) Your rental agreement contract's cancellation policy states that we are not responsible for events that are beyond our control, such as hurricanes. We strongly encourage our guests to purchase travel insurance and especially recommend "cancel for any reason" policies. (These must be purchased shortly after your reservation is made.)



3) Please note that because the Melrose Resort is in transition, our Melrose guests may notice a certain level of deterioration in the resort-owned buildings but will also see that renovation efforts are now underway. Our vacation cottages are in well-maintained areas and continue to be extremely popular.
