Enjoy your vacation in the former hunting lodge of the prince bishops of Eichstatt.

Castle-Castle between Ingolstadt u. Eichstätt with 900 years of history (including as a prince-bishop's hunting lodge, the most prominent owner was Napoleon's stepson, Eugène Vicomte de Beauharnais I Duke von Leuchtenberg, he was married to Auguste Amalie, the sister of the Bavarian King Ludwig I .; the last noble owner was Maria Nikolajewna Grand Duchess of Russia, favorite daughter of the Russian Tsar Nicholas I).

Carefully renovated from 2006-2009, 4 m high stucco rooms, orig. Floorboards, eco technology (rainwater utilization, wood chips wall heating, 100% green electricity), additional Tile and Iron stove. Wifi and Lan free of charge.

There are two apartments, they are in the baroque sequence of the I. Upper floor integrated and habitable from 2 - 14 people. New carpenter kitchens, the original baroque rooms are also furnished with antiques.

7000 m² garden, seating also on the medieval corner bastions + in the small arcade courtyard with fountain. New large carpenter kitchen, the original baroque rooms are also furnished with antiques


There are two golf clubs in the vicinity: Wittelsbacher Golf Club Rohrenfeld-Neuburg and Golf Club Ingolstadt. Both are less than 20 kilometers away.

Lovely winter holiday

We loved staying in the castle so much last year we booked again for a winter break. The castle and village have a fascinating history and has been sensitively restored by Peter and Helga. The apartment is so warm with underfloor and wall heating, perfect for a winter escape.

A Beautiful and Unique Place to Stay

We are a family of 5 and we were comfortable and impressed with the nicely updated and appointed kitchen and bathroom of this clean and tidy holiday apartment. Everything that you would need in a kitchen is in place to include a dishwasher! Gorgeous custom cabinets, granite counter tops, and high end stainless steel appliances allows you to cook to your heart's desire, if you so choose. Huge bathroom with extra large soaking tub and open shower area. The walls of the apartment and the floor of the bathroom are all heated which made for a very cozy apartment during the cold winter days. There is a fireplace too! The custom made beds were comfortable and big fluffy comforters allowed us all to get a good night's sleep. Antique furniture complete the rooms, all beautiful and functional. The Leuschner's and their son were very gracious hosts and most helpful with our day trips giving us great suggestions of what to do and see. We were given a full tour of the castle and learned of it's history. They have put their hearts and a lot of hard work into their historic castle and it was much appreciated! We loved the location of the castle, enjoyed the beautiful Bavarian countryside and the surrounding towns and villages. This was a memorable Christmas trip for us and was made special by the Leuschner's. For that, we are very grateful!

Castle and nature

If you have a dream of living in a castle this is the place to go. The castle may be small but the walls are thick, the ceiling is high and the floor is made of wide planks. The hosts are a sweet couple and Hofstetten is a good starting point if you want to walk some of the paths in the beautifull Altműhltal. We certainly enjoyed our week in the appartment. We are not hesitating to recommend a stay in the castle if you would like to try living like the noble people.

Wonderful experience for history buffs

Helga and Peter’s apartment within the former hunting lodge is really something special. We loved the history and grandeur of the place but also the warmth and comfort (the apartment was very warm even in January thanks to under floor heating). The building has been lovingly restored and includes nice glimpses here and there of the original brickwork. We loved the nearby forest walks and were able to explore the area easily. There are two supermarkets and a good bakery a 5 min drive away. Highly recommended.

Eine Zeitreise!

Unser Aufenthalt hat uns in vergangene Zeiten geführt. Wir haben in sehr geräumigen Zimmern "residiert" und waren begeistert wie perfekt und liebevoll sowohl das Gebäude als auch das Interieur renoviert wurden. Die Gradwanderung zwischen nötigem "Neuen" und erhaltenswertem "Alten" ist perfekt gelungen. Die Umgebung bietet gute Möglichkeiten zum Radfahren und Wandern (Altmühltal), aber auch zum Bummeln z.B. in Ingolstadt. Wir können diese Unterkunft sehr empfehlen! Wir bedanken uns ganz herzlich beim Schlossherrn für die sehr interessante Schlossführung und die Einblicke in die erfolgten Renovierungsarbeiten und wünschen Herrn Leuschner und seiner Familie alles Gute.

Wunderschöne Erinnerung an Schloss Hofstetten

Wir haben eine wundervolle, erholsame Woche in Schloss Hofstetten verbracht. Auch als es draußen dann kalt wurde, hat uns die integrierte Wandheizung zusammen mit dem Kachelofen ein angenehmes Raumklima bereitet. Sehr beeindruckt hat uns die liebevolle, fachgerechte und detailgetreue Restaurierung des Schlosses. Die spannende Führung durch das ganze Schloss durch Vater und Sohn Emanuel hat uns die Augen für die Kunst des Schloss-Restaurierens und -Bauens geöffnet. Überhaupt war die Begegnung mit der ganzen Familie - auch Frau Leuschner und die Großmutter haben wir noch kennen gelernt - durch ihre Herzlichkeit sehr bereichernd. Die Umgebung bietet zahlreiche Sehenswürdigkeiten (auch für Regenwetter), Wander- und Radfahrmöglichkeiten. Vielen Dank! Bis zu einem Wiedersehen Brita und Jürgen

A beautiful, welcoming and very special place

Our 10 day stay at Schloss Hofstetten was a truly exceptional experience. Everything was top level: the very professional, proactive and highly flexible way the owners handled the booking process, the logistics at arrival, their willingness to share information, and of course the apartment/castle itself, which is an absolute highlight. You enter the castle at the main entrance, take the royal stairwell to the first floor, where the two apartments are situated. We stayed in the "small" one (which is actually pretty spacious). It occupies the whole right track of the first floor. It consists of three rooms that are connected through the hallway. The living room (60 square meters) has a kitchen area, a sofa (which can be transformed to an additional bed), a dinner table with four chairs, and in one of the corners a cozy traditional chimney with two chairs and a small table. The room's height is 4 meters, and it has four large windows (with much sun in the afternoon and early evening). The kitchen furniture was designed by the owners, built by a professional carpenter, and consists of a workspace, a dishwasher, a two plate electric oven, a water cooker, and a coffee machine. All necessary kitchen utensils were there, everything was of high quality. The floor consists of the original broad wooden strokes. The bedroom (opposite to the living room) has a high quality bed (again handmade by a professional carpenter; excellent mattresses) for two persons and a window to the West. The very spacious bathroom has a WC, a shower, and also a bidet and a wardrobe. All rooms were exceptionally clean. The whole castle had been completely renovated with great care a couple of years ago (the owners received several prizes for this), with much eye for historical detail, ecologically sustainable materials and technical structures (e.g. a fabulous heating system in the walls), and tasteful furnishing. The castle is surrounded by an awesome and huge garden area, with several tables and chairs. You can park your car in the courtyard. The village is within a beautiful hiking area, and it is only a 15-30 minute drive to Eichstätt, Ingolstadt, Neuburg/Donau. The owners are extremely nice, and were perfect hosts, they immediately made us feel at home. We received a great guided tour of the castle, an exciting lecture in social and art history, architecture and regional politics. We recommend this place without any hesitation. Rafael and Alessandra

Wir haben wunderschöne Urlaubstage in Hofstetten verbracht und unsere Kinder sprechen immer wieder mit Begeisterung über das schöne Schloss. Die liebvollen Gastgeber, die mit sehr viel Geschmack und Detailtreue renovierte Wohnung und die schöne und abwechslungsreiche Region von Eichstätt machen einen Aufenthalt in Hofstetten zu einen unvergesslichen Erinnerung. Einfach super!

Wir haben eine traumhafte Woche im Schloss verbracht. Wir ziehen respektvoll unseren Hut vor der unglaublichen Leistung dieses Gebäude so zu renovieren!!! Das Preis/Leistungsverhältnis ist unschlagbar gut! Die Ferien Wohnungen sind einfach super und das Ambiente und die Atmosphäre sind unschlagbar! Auch der Kontakt zu den Schlossbesitzern war einfach nett und unkompliziert! Wir sagen nochmals danke und wünschen alles Gute und viel Erfolg für die weitere Vermietung!

Unique, Comfortable, and Classy Retreat

Our family with five children, ages 5-14, recently stayed at this very interesting and well-equipped holiday suite. We were delighted with the accommodation on every point. It is well-appointed, rich in history and character. The property itself was nestled in a quaint village within short driving distance of numerous outings and train stations. The kitchen is very well equipped and the dining area/family room was a great gathering spot. The Leuschners made us feel very comfortable and went above and beyond our expectations of service. They also gave a lovely tour and history of their home which we all enjoyed. Our children enjoyed exploring the grounds and riding horses at a nearby horse stable. We highly recommend this property and would happily return; truly a "fairytale" getaway.

Große und kleine Schloss-Gäste auf Zeit

Wir waren im Oktober 2010 mit 2 Kindern (4 + 7 Jahre) im Schloss Hofstetten. Ausgestattet mit Ritter- und Burgfräulein-Kostümen wurde die große Wohnung in Beschlag genommen. Wir haben uns von Anfang an wunderbar wohl gefühlt. Große Räume mit stilsicherer Ausstattung, modernster Haustechnik, die individuelle Temperaturregulierung jedes einzelnen Raumes ermöglicht, Fußbodenheizung im super großen Badezimmer; komplett ausgestattete moderne Küche, sogar mit Tiefkühlfach. Dies ist nur ein Auszug aus der Wohnungsbeschreibung. Wir haben in der Umgebung auch den Sportplatz genutzt, Sportmöglichkeiten gibt's hier auch für Walker, Läufer.... I-Tüpfelchen war dann auch die Schlossführung des Burgherrn, der auch von seiner Geschichte mit dem Schloss berichtet. Wir haben die gesamte Zeit mehr als genossen und werden sicherlich wieder zurückkommen.

Vier Tage Schloßromantik mit modernem Komfort

Als prima Adresse für einen spätherbstlichen Kurzurlaub im Altmühltal stellt sich Schloß Hofstetten für uns dar. Wir genossen sehr das schöne Ambiente mit stilvollen Möbeln, perfekter Ausstattung, schönem Geschirr, gemütlicher Wärme vom wunderbaren Kachelofen und das Leben als Kurzzeit-Schloßbewohner. Wir anerkennen die großartige Leistung der Familie Leuschner, die über 37 Jahre dieses Kleinod geschaffen und mit viel Gespür, Wissen und hohem persönlichen Einsatz saniert, renoviert und nachhaltig modernisiert hat und so die Geschichte des Hauses weiterschreibt. So stellen wir uns gelebte Denkmapflege vor, nicht als alleinige Aufgabe des Staates, sondern in der Verantwortung jedes Einzelnen. Ohne dieses vorbildliche private Engagement kann die Vielfalt unserer großen und kleinen Kulturdenkmäler nicht für unsere Nachkommen erhalten werden. Der Aufwand rechnet sich sicherlich nicht, aber er lohnt sich! In diesem Sinne herzlichen Dank an die Familie Leuschner für ihre Gastfreundschaft und die wunderbaren Tage, die wir in ihrem Haus verbringen durften. Wir kommen sicherlich wieder, wenn möglich mit unseren Kindern und den Enkelkindern!

In Schloss Hofstetten wohnt das pure Ferienglück!

Die Ferienwohnung im alten mit hohem persönlichen Einsatz und viel Liebe renovierten Gemäuer hat unsere Erwartungen weit übertroffen. Die Verwendung von natürlichen und traditionellen Materialien, sowie modernste Haustechnik schaffen eine wundervoll entspannende Atmosphäre. Die nach Holzöl duftende geräumige und schöne Schreinerküche ist komplett ausgestattet mit reichlich Geschirr und hochwertigen Küchengeräten. Ebenso hoher Komfort im Badezimmer. Die Betten sind vom Schreiner aus dem Holz alter Bäume aus dem Schlossgarten gefertigt (welch schöne Idee!) und mit sehr guten Matratzen ausgestattet. Die Räumlichkeiten sind sehr sauber. Alles-von den Möbeln bis hin zur Bettwäsche- ist mit viel Gespür auf das historische Gebäude abgestimmt. Im romantisch natürlichen Schlossgarten kann man an verschiedenen Sitzplätzen essen oder einfach die Seele baumeln lassen. Sehr freundliche und herzliche Vermieterfamilie, die Gastfreundschaft wirklich lebt, und die uns mit super Ausflugstipps und Informationsmaterial versorgt hat (Schlossführung inklusive). Das Altmühltal ist wunderschön und landschaftlich abwechslungsreich. Wer gerne mit dem Fahrrad die Umgebung erkundet, ist hier genau richtig. Idylische Wald- und Wiesenwege führen direkt von Schloss Hofstetten nach Eichstätt (sehr sehenswert ist der Bastionsgarten Hortus Eystettensis auf der Willibaldsburg) oder an die Altmühl. Unterwegs findet man lauschige Biergärten. Viele interessante Ausflugsziele sind in der Nähe (auch an Regentagen machbar), z. B. Schulerlochhöhle (eine Tropfsteinhöhle), Kelheim mit Befreiungshalle oder Kloster Weltenburg. Unser Kurzurlaub in der wunderschönen Schloss-Burg ging viel zu schnell zu Ende (finden auch unsere Kinder!), wir möchten unbedingt wiederkommen. Unsere Empfehlung für Schloss Hofstetten: Hinfahren - Staunen - Genießen!

Ein Traum für Kultur- und Naturliebhaber

Wir haben vier Tage in diesem mit viel Liebe, Einsatz und Geschmack renovierten Schloss verbringen dürfen. Eine Ferienwohnung mit allen Annehmlichkeiten des 21. Jahrhunderts im Gewand des 17./18. Jahrhunderts. Umgeben von einem wunderschönen Garten und dem Naturpark Altmühltal, der sich ideal zum Radfahren eignet und viele lohnende Ausflugsziele bietet. Die Lage ist zentral zwischen Altmühl und Donau nicht weit von der brocken Bischofsstadt Eichstätt mit Wochenmarkt und verschiedensten Restaurants und Cafés. Die sympathischen Besitzer geben bereitwillig nicht nur Informationen und Tipps zur Umgebung sondern auch Einblick in die wechselvolle Geschichte des Schlosses und seine 'Wiedererweckung' zu alter Pracht. Wir kommen bestimmt wieder und können diese besondere Ferienwohnung uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen.
