Modern Lakefront Home on Sechrist Lake (Barbee Chain of Lakes)

Loch Sechrist Cottage is a modern (2010) home on Sechrist lake part of the Barbee chain of lakes. Fantastic boating and swimming.

The property is Ideal for families. The house has 3 floors of living space. Great for entertaining and socializing. Sechrist is fed by spring water and has a sandy bottom. In our opinion it has the clearest water of the other lakes in the Barbee chain. In front of the house there is a private sandy beach. The water is shallow so ideal for children.

The Barbee Lakes chain is composed of seven interconnected, natural lakes situated west of North Webster, Indiana. The lakes include Kuhn, Big Barbee, Little Barbee, Irish, Banning, Sawmill and Sechrist. They are interconnected by Grassy Creek which extends upstream from the chain to Ridinger Lake and downstream to Lake Tippecanoe. The lakesā€™ watershed stretches southeast into Whitley County, encompassing approximately 33,150 acres or 52 square miles.

Sechrist Lake - Deepest of the Barbee chain, Sechrist Lake covers 105 acres with a sand bottom, maximum depth of 70 feet and average depth of 35 feet. Principal game fish are large-mouth bass, small-mouth bass, pike, bluegills, perch and crappies.

There is a pier for your boat. There are local boat companies who hire boats. Please note the pier is taken out in the winter months but you can still launch a small boat from the beech. We have additional parking for boat trailers

There are excellent restaurants, golf courses , antique stores and tourist attractions. Or just come and relax

Lake Lover's dream

I grew up spending summers at a lake cottage. This home welcomed us with so many features and experiences that brought me back to the days I spent on the lake growing up! It was the perfect blend of comfort and peaceful relaxation, with a stunning view, we were looking for. We loved that the lake was just steps from the cottage door, so you could dash in for a refill on snacks or drinks with ease! What a great bunch of neighbors, too! We love this home and hope to return!

Much Needed Vacation

My husband and I stayed for 8 days, brought our boat, fished and cruised all 7 lakes. The water was crystal clear, the perch and bluegill were the biggest we've ever caught. The home was nice, not over/understated in the listing, but pretty well on point. We felt right at home, everything we needed was there. Running into town for groceries or bait was all we needed to do. A pleasurable week at a pleasurable property. The Scottish accents around the home were also a nice touch. Tammi & Marty M

Great place to spend a weekend

Everything about this place was great. If you're not accustomed to lake properties the smell of the water in the house will take some getting used to as my family found out. But that is life at the lake. The house is super comfortable, roomy, well-equipped and the views and activities can't be overstated. Kayaking all over the lake was a personal favorite. I would highly recommend this place to anybody looking for a fun and relaxing getaway.

Perfect in every way, even in the middle of January

Held a long overdue family reunion here in the middle of January. The lake may have been frozen over, but you'll be warm and snug inside. The kitchen has everything you need for a big family dinner except the groceries. Plenty of room for all. We couldn't have asked for more. Thanks for making this available! A must rent, any time of year.

Great house for a family vacation!

Description is right on point. We showed up a couple hours early while the cleaning team was in the house but they let us drop off our luggage so we could go to the grocery store. Before we left she showed us around the house and took us down to the lake. They could have easily turned us away but instead gave us the grand tour. You literally donā€™t have to bring anything but your own linens and pillows. The house had everything you need from beach towels, zero gravity beach chairs to toys for the kids. We never left after we parked! This was the perfect place for much needed down time with my kids. We will definitely be back again. Thank you for the wonderful amenities Owen!

If you are looking for somewhere to relax than this is the place. Every room has a beautiful view of the lake. This home is immaculate and has everything you need for a perfect getaway,whether it be,spring,summer,fall or winter. My husband & I spent Oct. 25 thru Oct.29 and had good enough weather to take the paddle boat and kayaks out to enjoy the lake 2 of those days. There is a small beach and fire-pit with chairs to enjoy, something I did not see with other properties.Mr.Flannigan is readily available to answer any question you may have. Thank You Owen for sharing your beautiful home. We hope to return in the summer.

Perfect Getaway

This "cottage" is so much more than a vacation rental. It is a retreat from a busy life. The beds are so comfortable, the kitchen beautifully stocked, the chairs perfect for curling up in with a book. This home looks out over the lake and we watched the light change daily, snow fall, swans swim by, etc. Even in the depths of winter, the cottage heats easily. The owners are lovely accommodating people from Scotland, and we enjoyed the Scottish touches throughout. I can't recommend this place enough. It is an easy drive to Winona Lake and Warsaw, where we have family. We love Loch Sechrist so much, we can't wait to go back again this Christmas!

Hidden Treasure

What a wonderful find. Loch Sechrist was better than a 5 Star Resort for our family. Beautiful home and accomodations for a wonderful vacation. The lake (Sechrist) is clear, deep and beautiful to swim in. The sandy beach right in front of the cottage was perfect for the little kids to play in and build sand castles. We used the two kayaks everyday to explore the lakes and surrounding areas. We rented a speed boat from a local marina and that allowed us to go to all the lakes and enjoy the skiing and tubing adventures as well. After a couple of days we were able to relax and feel like we had really gotten away even though we were close enough to have friends and family come up for nice one day visit. Thank you for a wonderful vacation! We plan to come back next year.

Like home!!

After most vacations, there's something about coming "home" ... but leaving Loch Seechrist was almost like leaving home. The house was perfect for our family getaway, lots to do and see. My two-year old LOVED the beach and playing in the sand. My teenagers loved the kayaking, relaxing evenings watching TV and sleeping in the hammock in the shady back yard. My wife and I loved the beautiful views from the master bedroom and from the back deck as well as watching our family enjoy their relaxing vacation. The neighbors were very nice, even bringing over some sand toys for our little guy to play with. We were blessed to find this rental on such short notice and hope to return again in the future. Thank you Owen for making us feel so welcome in your home.

Wonderful Family Vacation

This house far exceeded anything we had expected from what we saw here on the VRBO listing. The pictures don't even do the house justice for how beautiful and clean it is and the views of the lake are phenomenal! Neighbors were pleasant, lake environment was relaxing and the house had all the amenities you could think of; hammock, swing, sandy beach for the kids, kayaks, great TV with movie channels for relaxing at night after long days in the water and even a UK version of Monopoly that was a blast! The house was also incredibly well stocked with sheets, blankets, towels and kitchen/cooking supplies! And the owner, Owen, was phenomenal to work with and incredibly helpful! After having used VRBO for other rentals and spending HOURS sorting through different listings, I can definitely say we will be back here regularly!

This brings back the many memories of my childhood summers on Sechrist Lake. It was wonderful to see the Lakes again! I was able to share new memories with my husband and another couple we brought along. The cottage was gorgeous and everything was provided! Loved the view! The water was crystal clear and not alot of traffic. The Barbee Landing was fun during the day and when they had Karaoke! We will be back again! Thank you to Owen and the helpful neighbors!

August 2011 - I discovered this wonderful place last October and knew I would return. This home is beautifully decorated, comfortable and has everything you could possibly need. It is spotlessly clean. Everything from the linens to the furniture is top quality. It comfortabley accomodated my children, grandchildren and myself. The outside is well-mainained. The photos do not do this home justice - it is gorgeous! The lake is beautiful and the beach area is a plus. I would recommend this place to anyone! The owner, Owen, is very nice and easy to work with. My children and Grandchildren did not want to leave there was so much to do. Hopefully I will be able to return to Loch Sechrist next year for vacation.

I am from Scotland and first came to this part of Indiana when I was 18 as a student working at a local summer camp. I came back many times for a vacation. I loved the lakes and so I bought a place that I , my family and friends can enjoy. I have travelled the World but here I can relax and enjoy the lake.
