For those seeking to step away from the bustle of the city and slow down in a friendly, charming town.

Basswood is a historic home (circa 1890) in the quaint town of Capon Bridge, that has been lovingly remodeled to include five private suites each with their own unique style.

The Willow Suite features a private bathroom, kitchenette, separate living space, and entrance ramp for no-step access! Located in the heart of Capon Bridge, you'll find it easy to walk to local attractions and are sure to enjoy this inviting space.

THE SPACE
Built in the 1890's the home was originally owned by Dr. J.S. Offutt, affectionately known as "Uncle Pudge." The house served as both his home and medical office. The local post office also operated in the space that is now the Appalachian Wedding Chapel.

You'll find wide plank wood floors throughout the building as well as ornate window and door moulding's that have been carefully preserved. The space has been furnished with beautiful antiques, mid-century modern flare and is interspersed with work from local artists.

The Willow Suite is the largest, most spacious suite at Basswood. Located on the first-floor, the suite is unique because it has been made as accessible as possible, with the installation of an entrance ramp, for those who may find steps challenging.

ACCESSIBILITY - A gradual, wide ramp leads to a front door that is 31-inches wide. The bathroom door is 31-inches wide and the shower has a 5-inch threshold on the floor. The bedroom door is 30-inches wide. There are no steps inside the suite. The parking area is gravel (not paved) which can be a bit "soft" for wheelchairs when it rains. We are proud to be able to offer a space that is more accommodating for all and hope that guests will find this helpful.

Inside you will find many interesting antiques and art pieces that provide a laid-back, inviting vibe. The Willow Suite features a bedroom, separate living space with a sofa-bed and sitting table large enough for four people. In the bedroom you'll find a dreamy queen size bed and private bathroom around the corner stocked with all basic amenities.

The adjacent living space has a sofa, sitting chair and a 50" Roku Smart TV with Hulu, Disney+, ESPN+ and Amazon Prime streaming services all hooked up and ready to enjoy. You'll also have access to the fastest internet in the area. Additionally, the living space has a kitchenette featuring a mini-fridge, microwave, Keurig with coffee & tea, and basic kitchen items like mugs, glasses, and utensils.

Outside, you'll find yourself on a bluff overlooking the Cacapon River. A short walk down the road there is easy access to dip your toes in or skip rocks, at the cafe and music venue - The River House. The river is great for kayaking, canoeing, or tubing and you'll find tips on where to start and finish upon your arrival to Basswood.

Be mindful that the outside space is shared among guests but you'll have plenty of space to sit and read a book or enjoy the sunshine. The yard includes a propane gas grill with utensils, as well as a fire pit, table, outdoor chairs, table and gazebo, for all guests to enjoy.

Across the street, the Farmer's Daughter Market & Butcher has consistently won multiple awards over the years, such as Best Burger in WV, Best Butcher in WV and over a half-dozen Good Food Awards. You'll find all your grocery necessities and locally-made products.

A short stroll down the road, The River House is a homegrown arts & music nonprofit, featuring a cafe, gallery and music venue. The River House has been recognized in recent years as one of West Virginia's best music venues and art organizations. Find inspiration in the rotating gallery, or shop locally-made merchandise in the renovated 100 year-old building. There are a variety of events each month, from live music performances to free workshops.

Planning a destination wedding? An elopement or micro-wedding at the Appalachian Wedding Chapel & Boutique at Basswood is a stress free, fun and meaningful way to celebrate your most special day. With officiants on staff, you and up to 25 guests can enjoy an intimate ceremony and light reception right here on the banks of the beautiful Cacapon River.

GUEST ACCESS
Guests will enter the Willow Suite through a completely private entrance using a code specific to them that enables access into the space. A gradual, step-free, wide ramp leads to a front door that is 31-inches wide.

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
This is a first-floor suite with a ramp leading to the front door. There are zero steps. The front door is 31-inches wide. The bathroom has a 31-inch wide door and the shower has 5-inch threshold on the floor. The bedroom door is 30-inches wide. The parking area is gravel (not paved) which can become a bit "soft" for wheelchairs when it rains.

The entire suite is private and only for your use. Nothing is shared. Each suite has its own keypad lock. The whole house consists of five private suites, each with their own bedroom and bathroom. You may cross paths with other guests on the property, coming & going.
