Southern Comfort on the Bay

Just a short stroll to the beach (approx.10 min. walk), Southern Comfort on the Bay, located in the historic district of Cape Charles, Virginia, offers luxury and comfort, while providing guests with the splendor and charm of a beautifully restored historic home. This home provides a perfect balance of old and new, and has all the modern conveniences of home, while preserving the charm and craftsmanship of the 1920s. Beautifully restored original heartwood pine floors and woodwork are much appreciated by our guests.

The restoration of the home provided many upgrades, including granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and beautifully tiled bathrooms. The kitchen has a state-of-the-art JenAir stove, with an indoor grill, which makes cooking fun for all. This property provides all the comforts of home that one desires while vacationing.

The game room will provide hours of fun and entertainment for children and adults alike. Games, books, and puzzles are available for all ages. Teens and adults alike will be unable to resist a foosball challenge.

Southern Comfort on the Bay is located one street over from Mason Street, where you will find restaurants and shops. Talented local artists display wonderful coastal paintings, jewelry, etc. for sale at the shops on Mason Street.

Get ready for some southern hospitality as you walk down Mason Street, as Cape Charles is known for its friendly Mayberry feel.

Don't forget to enjoy the great Cape Charles fishing pier. You just never know what you may find on your hook!

Please note that during June, July and August we focus on long term rentals only (weekly to monthly).

Best Host Ever

Southern Comfort on the Bay was excellent. The property was clean and well appointed. Every member of our group thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The children enjoyed the game room, and the adults enjoyed the homey atmosphere. We would definitely stay here again. Questions were answered so quickly.

Beautiful and comfortable old house, updated and well preserved. Good common areas, good closet space, great beach accessories. All bedrooms were kindly furnished , quiet and comfortable. The house is within easy walking distance to the beach which was a perfect habitat for a toddler with gentle water’s edge and clean sand. Easy access and parking or you can rent golf carts for tooling around. The town of Cape Charles is welcoming and offers good food, shops, parks and ice cream! We loved this house and the town and we will certainly visit again.

The Cape Charles Experience!

Property owners communicate very well, home is in a great location, clean and safe for children. We especially appreciated the picket fence which made evenings on the porch a little less stressful with small children. Great value and amenities.

A Very Welcoming House

We just loved this house! It was very clean, had everything we needed in the kitchen and had a wonderful porch with rockers! It was a short 14 minute walk to the beach and we made sure to watch every sunset. We will be back!

Amazing and Just what we needed!

The property is exceptional and is in a great location. The coordination and check in were seamless, just arrive and relax. The owner was extremely helpful. Kid friendly, extremely comfortable, and pristine clean. We will be back again! Strongly recommend!

Great Place to Stay in Cape Charles

Southern Comfort on the Bay was a nice fit for our group. The game room was a huge hit for the kids (6, 9 and 12). Nice well kept home. We were only a block and a half from the rest of our group and having a golf cart makes all the difference. Only complaint I have is we were not made aware of the ice maker not working.

Great house, convenient location

Great property, conveniently located and walkable to just about everything you’ll want to see and do in Cape Charles. We enjoyed mornings and evenings on the front porch, the convenience of the outdoor shower after sandy trips to the beach and the game room area complete with foosball table. The house is not lavishly furnished - the bathrooms are perfectly adequate but not exceptional, and you may want to bring items like sharp knives for any cooking you plan to do - but we were happy with our stay here (family of 5 with 3 kids ages 8 and under).

Incredible Home

Southern Comfort is the best Cape Charles property at which our family has had the pleasure of staying—and we’ve stayed at a few! The location is quiet and convenient to the downtown business district. The house is spacious with an interior that perfectly combines old school architectural details--the exposed brick of the original chimney--with modern amenities. (The HVAC system works incredibly well, which is a must for any beach rental.) The foosball table in the game room entertained our kids for hours, and there's a huge collection of beach toys and accessories--chairs, bicycles, boogie boards--that guests are welcome to use. We loved Southern Comfort and hope to return in the not-too-distant future.

So Pleased with Southern Comfort on the Bay

My family of six adults gathered here for a significant weekend for us, one of celebration and memories for a dearly departed family member and friend. We traveled to Cape Charles to sail aboard a Tall Ship, which made a special stop and journey into the Chesapeake Bay to honor and remember one of their own. We were entirely comfortable at Southern Comfort, really delighted with this truly special home, obviously so well-maintained by its owners, and we would have enjoyed staying longer for just all this area has to offer. Amenities have carefully provided, and the home has been beautifully restored - the perfect blend of historical and modern. I am pleased to hear the homeowners are beginning work now on the house next door which I am sure will also be wonderful when completed. We were ideally a very short walk to Cape Charles shops and restaurants and the beach - and enjoyed meeting so many hospitable townspeople. We thank the homeowners for this introduction to Cape Charles and their Southern Comfort on the Bay and thank them for working with us as our schedule evolved, making sure the home was perfectly cleaned and stocked for our arrival, beach puzzles ready in the parlor! Thank for you the kind note and flowers, too, a special touch; we'll be looking for happy reasons to return!

Another great week at Southern Comfort!

This was our 3rd year back at Southern Comfort and it was just like coming home! Our kids have started calling it “our Cape Charles House”—they love it here and The owners do a great job of keeping everything clean, ready, and easy for us! Our family visited Cape Charles to explore the Eastern Shore of Virginia years ago. We found that Cape Charles provides a great balance of activity, history, nature, and relaxation. With our busy schedules, we look forward to visits to "the shore" and have come to appreciate Southern Comfort on the Bay more than we ever imagined.

Our home is one of the nicest in Cape Charles, and we talk a lot of pride in maintaining the home to keep it clean, updated and comfortable for guests. Off street parking is on site which takes the headache out of parking!
