Overall we were pleased with the property. Excellent location and close to everything we wanted to do in the La Fortuna area. Super quiet and enjoyed unplugging for our time there. Being able to use the resort hot springs and restaurants were a perk and very appreciative to be able to use them. If you are looking for a place that allows you to slow down and unplug and enjoy the rainforest and nature this is the place to do that!

This place was a gem of a find! It was perfect for our stay near La Fortuna and a great home base for a few nights with my wife and son. The home is far enough outside of town to feel remote and peaceful, but still only about a 30-45 minute drive to La Fortuna and the Arenal Volcano area.The property is located within the Chachagua Rainforest Hotel property, which was a huge bonus. We were able to enjoy their pools and hot springs, have a few cocktails at the bar, and enjoy a meal at one of their restaurants. We also booked an amazing guided night hike with the resort staff for an additional cost. It was a very cool experience and definitely a highlight of our stay.The home itself is rustic, charming, and fits the rainforest setting perfectly. The owner was very responsive whenever we had a question or issue. Check-in was a little different from other VRBO rentals, but the directions were very clear and everything went smoothly.Definitely recommend this property if you're looking for a unique rainforest experience near La Fortuna and Arenal!

Amazing home. Close to nature. Very relaxing and calming. Perfect for our nature loving family of four. Nearby trails, hot springs and restaurants were fantastic. Did a night hike with a professional guide at the hotel and saw so many tropical creatures including a Red-eyed Tree Frog. We will be back!

This VRBO is excellent, and such a unique find! My wife and three kids stayed here for two nights, and we truly wish we could have stayed longer. It is surrounded by the rainforest resort Chachagua, which has stellar food and gorgeous hot springs, not to mention great amenities such as night tours and really anything you'd be after in this part of Costa Rica. (Did I forget to mention their epic waterslides into the river for kids...and adults...so fun!). The house has great character, was so clean, has beautiful views out to the surrounding jungle, and every morning we heard howler monkeys and saw gorgeous birds like Rufous Tailed Hummingbirds and Caracaras moving around the decks. Other than nature though, it is quiet. It isn't too far from the hustle of La Fortuna, but feels so relaxed by comparison. It is slightly tricky to track down the keys, but if you read the directions on the VRBO listing they send you after booking you will find the keys just fine. Just look out for the Costa Rica flag on the house where you pick those up on your way into the resort. (If you miss it, it is only five minutes back, if that.) I really can't say enough good things about this host and the VRBO, and we are already planning a future trip back!

What to say? Fantastic! Amazing! A one of a kind experience?“Casa Ute” is all these things! We saw all kinds of wildlife and beautiful birds within the first 45 minutes of showing up. We could’ve spent our entire two weeks in Costa Rica at this place and would not have gotten tired of it!

We thoroughly enjoyed the friendly and peaceful atmosphere at Chachagua. The house, “la casa Ute”, was delightful, it was well equipped and in a beautiful setting from where we could watch and listen to the birds and other critters for hours from the deck. Even toucans came to visit!The staff at the resort were very friendly and welcoming, letting us use the pools and facilities as if we were guests. We did book a couple of tours through them.

Ute’s place is absolutely spectacular. The beauty of the landscape is only matched by the bursary in the people there. Would recommend it to anyone. The travel to get there is worth it!

What a surprise find! Unbelievable surprise to find out where we were staying. It wasn’t overly easy to figure out where we were staying. Probably WhatsApp is the more universal way to communicate. It can be rather challenging to find where you’re staying. We learned pretty quickly just to let the resort staff know we are staying at Ute House and they knew exactly how to help us! Lovely private spot to have in the rainforest. So wonderful to share amenities and hiking paths with the resort. A very special find with everything we needed. Highly recommend!

Ute’s beautiful home is perfectly situated in a secluded area , where you feel like you are all by yourself overlooking serene setting of mountains, tropical jungle, sculptured yard with beautiful flowers and numerous birds. Our morning coffee was a pure delight as we sat for hours enjoying the ambience. A bird lovers paradise! From Ute’s location it was a very easy drive to the local town of Chauchagua for groceries or restauranting and a beautiful drive to anywhere and anything you want to see in the La Fortuna area! Everything that you want to see and do is easily accessible from this tranquil home. Ute and her long time housekeepers were very attentive and helpful with any of our inquiries. Definite recommend this location . I hope to be fortunate enough to stay again sometime!

This is our second visit to this rental. Hosts and caretakers very responsive. Our stay was excellent! If nature, privacy and peace is what you are looking for, look no further. Short drive to all conveniences and activities. King bed very comfortable. We enjoyed our morning coffee while observing animals, forestry and bird watching. The resort staff was always welcoming and helpful. I had a massage therapist set up right on the covered porch of house. Resort amenities and the mountain home make this a win/win for all. we stayed at Casa Ute the 3rd week of April. It is an amazing property with beautiful views, peaceful atmosphere and an adjoining resort that let us enjoy their facilities. Picking up the keys at the caretaker, was a hassle in that the directions were hard to follow at the end of a long travel day. The key there is to mention Casa Ute to the resort, then they will know what you mean! the Caretaker's house is on the road before you get to the actual resort, not far from the main road on the left. hope this helps! The ACs were in the bedroom and worked great except one night the AC in the master was making loud noises, I turned it off and it stopped soon after. Worked fine after that. The floor in the bathroom was quite wet when we got there, but it was just condensation and not leaking, so a towel (there were plenty) took care of it. The place is quaint, and exactly what we were looking for!

We are a family of four with a nine and six-year-old and had the absolute best time at Ute’s house! The caretakers were extremely responsive and helpful anytime we needed them. The location is absolute perfection and perched a top of the hill with rainforest views. The sound of birds was magical each morning! They graciously left some fresh fruits and vegetables along with coffee, which was an absolute delight after a long travel day! The resort next-door was gracious enough to let us dine at the restaurant a couple times and use the hot springs which were beautiful. The hiking trails were another added bonus along with being able to walk around the resort grounds, where we saw lots of wildlife. Will absolutely be returning!

We spent a fantastic 8 days at Casa Ute! The house is situated on a hill, overlooking a pond that is part of Chachagua Rain Forest Hotel, and next to the horse stable. The porch was the perfect place for bird and animal watching. We logged 17 different bird species, and three mammals during our stay. Bring binoculars or a scope. Kitchen is newly renovated. We used the stove top and oven to cook, and they worked fine. Plenty of counter space, and we arrived to a fruit and veggie basket that we took advantage of. A/C in the master bedroom worked well, and helped tamper down the humidity. Bathroom shower is unique in a good way, and pressure and temps were good. The resort staff were terrific in helping us plan excursions, both on and off the property. We recommend the night hike with Roy, bird hike with Rueben and horseback riding on site. We will definitely return, thank you, Ute, for sharing your wonderful home with us.

A beautiful rainforest location

The area around was great. Some really good hikes, a short horseback trail ride and nearby hot springs. The property was beautiful.

This is a challenging review to write, because there were great things about this property, and not-so-great things. First, the good things: The property grounds were beautiful. They landscaped it so well, and there were tons of birds around. The porch was a great place to watch them fly around. We also saw agoutis on the property, frogs, and lizards. We also heard howler monkeys. The horse stables nearby were interesting for our 7-year-old as she could watch the horses ( that belonged to the nearby resort) run around the pasture. The A/C in the bedrooms worked well. The sleeping spaces were comfortable enough, particularly the main one, although the other bedroom was fine for kids. The property was quiet and we really liked being able to use the resort's trails and pools. This is a huge perk of staying here. The not-so-good: Getting to the property itself was an adventure, just finding the place. We had to pick up the keys first from the caretakers ( who were very nice), and then actually find the house. The directions the owner sent were NOT clear and could be much more succinct and direct. We felt like we were on a quest in Lord of the Rings or something. The dishes were fine, but the pots and pans were awful. No one wants to eat anything cooked on old, chipping teflon pans, and since this place was several minutes from restaurants, cooking there needs to be a viable option. Spending just a bit of money to provide decent pots and pans would be easy and appreciated.

I am glad you enjoyed your stay .We added photos of the turn into the access road into the hotel to the photos of the property, unfortunately sometimes the GPS has other ideas.We recently renovated the kitchen ,bought new hammocks ,installed AC and cab le internet .Hubby bought a new pan that turned out unuseable ,so we had family visiting bring one from the US,that should have been there .The caretakers are checking if we need more .We are allways grateful for suggestions .The location of our house , now surrounded by hotel property is in a rural area and there is no actual address .please read all instructions carefully , including GPS coordinates.we slso provide a contact number to the caretakers daughter .She speaks excellent english . It is our goal that our guests have everything they need to have a wonderful time .Pura Vida

Amazing property

This was just what we wanted. Great price for a spot up in the rain forest with hardly anyone around. We spent all our time there on the patio enjoying the views and sounds of nature. Loved it

Jungle Casa

Great place up in the rainforest with daily birds coming to feed on the deck. Wifi was great, super to be able to use the amenities at the resort and hike the trails and surrounding area. Only negative was the check in, but once we were there, it was fantastic and met all of our needs.

What a find!

Private botanical garden and bird observatory! Just beautiful location, perfect place to return each day to from great day trips. We enjoyed the terrace in early mornings and late afternoons, you have access to the amenities in the adjacent resort, staff there was super friendly and helpful as well. The views, the sounds and the serenity of the place is simply priceless!
