Pleasantly satisfied...

The neighborhood was quiet. The space of the basement apartment was clean, and spacious. Though the floors above were crickety, I slept fairly well.

our first time to NY

my partner and i drove up from SC to spend the new year at Times Square and it was great! it was our first time up north and the host was always a help whenever we had questions about how to move around the city. location is very nice and the neighborhood is quiet. it is like 30 minutes from Times Square and the drive there was always breathtaking. the home is perfect for a small getaway. now the home wasn’t as clean as expected, but that’s the only negative thing we can say. if we ever decide to come back to NY we will look for this home again!

The host was SUPER friendly. Very helpful and informative. The ONLY thing i didn’t like about it, was it was a TAD bit smaller than what it looked like in the pics. But other than that, i have zero complaints or remarks whatsoever. The only thing i would have liked to know before my stay was that it’s in the basement of a house. I was under the assumption that it was in an actual apartment building. But i honestly cannot complain at all because the host was just THAT accommodating. Just the sweetest.

It wasn’t really what I expected, and even though it at times looked nice, it wasn’t the best. The shower was very small, the beds headboard moved around a lot, the WiFi would go in and out and I didn’t always have a signal, and catching the bus wasn’t all that intuitive (NJ transit is just hard to learn).

Do not stay here

Arrived to a dark street with no light. Lock box didn’t open and I struggled to get in. When I did the place was weird and not clean…very run down. People were upstairs and I felt unsafe. The thermostat was too high. The listing does not say that people are upstairs and walking around. The shower and bathroom are run down. It’s a basement. I ran as fast as I could to a hotel and am now being threatened by the owner. Please do not stay here.

Bare Basics

If you're just looking for a place to lay your head at night, it will meet your expectations. The bed was only a full or double (can't remember if that was in the description) which was a little small for us. Could have used some hand towels for the bathroom, none provided. The couch which looks modern and comfortable in the photo was very uncomfortable (stiff) and no throw pillows or throw blankets to soften it up. I was surprised that there was no toaster! We ended up buying one to use. On the other hand, It was a very nice neighborhood and we felt safe walking our dogs. Missed having a backyard to put our dogs out early morning and late at night for their last potty break. There were however, parks nearby that were dog friendly. The place was clean and the host responded relatively quickly to enquiries, it just didn't meet our needs.

VRBO states the property will not have the owner present. Not true at this property. The footsteps could be heard due to inadequate sound proofing. I'm uncertain if there's heating in the bedroom. Yes, there's a portable heater, but we didn't use it. Yes, it was clean but updates are desperately needed needed. There are not enough electrical outlets and electricalcords are utlized in the living room as well as in the bedroom, it's dark bc lack of windows but light fixtures don't provide enough light either, the bathroom is especially dark. The price is not justified given the property's condition.

Hello Carmen, I am sorry for your concerns I wish you would have told me earlier as we were in communication during your stay. The apartment is completely private with private entrance. You do not ever interact with any other person in the property. The apartment has its own thermostat and heating system which of course includes a furnace in the bedroom, which I even included in the instructions where the thermostat is to adjust the heat for the apartment so I am not sure why you are saying this. There is also no portable heater in the apartment? In the living room there are at least 5 outlets. And in the bedroom there are two lamps with usb outlets on both sides of the bed for very convenient charging. As well as two additional wall outlets. If you would like to stay at a luxury hotel you would have to pay the price for that and book your stay at one. As these prices are substantially lower than that. I do not understand this review as you did tell me you loved the apartment. God bless

Glad we only slep there

We took a chance, because of low reviews. We have done lots of traveling over the last 20+ years. The price was reasonable, but the accommodations were lacking, the heat was very poor(we set the thermostat to 78° and the temperature never got over 68°). We were cold while sleeping, we those we had an electric heater, it was only a fan, no heat. It would have been nice if there were more blankets, we both have arthritis, and the cold sleeping caused pain in the morning. The headboard was a king size, the mattress was only a double. The hot water heater was lacking, the shower was on the cold side of lukewarm and the water in the shower leaked the whole time we were there. The couch looked okay but was very uncomfortable when we sat down(looked like something out of a first apartment, you know young 20-something, just moved out of mom and dad's house) There was a functioning coffee pot and kettle, for coffee and tea in the morning; this and the easy access to the train were the reasons the score was not lower. The price was only justified by the close proximity to the train station and the coffee that was available. I sent a text message around noon on the day of check-in, because I had not received the check-in instructions. The instructions arrived within 45 minutes, I then get a message a few hours later(around 5PM asking when we were going to check-in) the owner knew we were traveling from North Carolina, to visit NYC, my messages went unanswered.
