Fabulous place!

Things I love: This place has gorgeous views and a fun, upscale, funky neighborhood. Isabelle let me check in a few hours early, and I loved listening to the fountain and crickets. I was greeted with grapes, bagels, jam, nectarines, a pineapple, hummous and apples. The inside is cleaned scrupulously with no obnoxious chemicals! Isabelle responded to my texts immediately. Things I didn’t love: There is living space under the bedrooms, and though the noises are super quiet, I am a light sleeper, and the listing said host lived on a separate lot. I didn’t have control over the central heat; Isabelle was super fast to respond but I got cold one night as the heat didn’t turn on after a power outage (I didn’t want to wake her up so I waited till dawn to text). Moldy sink drain (quickly resolved with baking soda and vinegar care of host.) Overall it’s a gorgeous place and most appropriate for hearty, ecologically responsible travelers with a taste for beauty.

I am disappointed that all the things Sabine loved informed such a low star rating, as I thought I addressed all her MANY and SPECIAL NEEDS: The space underneath the house is a storage with scarce and quiet activity during the day, none at night. Being in my private area, beyond the wooden fence, I am puzzled at how she can declare it a living space. Also surprised by the heater issue. We, in the Topanga Mountains, are environmentally conscious and live our lives sustainably without using so much energy from the grid, especially in the summer when the temperature is between 70 and 90 degrees. Guests are not always aware of this and while I make sure they are comfortable, I do protect both the environment and my house from overuse. Rightly so with Sabine: the thermostat was set at 68 degrees as she requested. The heater did not kick in as the night temperature never got so low; when I manually turned it on, as per her request also, she did not like the initial noise and asked me to turn it off. I did not hear anything further regarding this issue during her two-week visit. The house was scrupulously cleaned, and there was no moldy sink drain, nonetheless I provided baking soda and vinegar. I did all I could to make Sabine comfortable, gave her a generous 5-star rating in spite of her high daily maintenance, and am disappointed that her low star rating of my house did not match the outstanding visit she relayed she had.

Beautiful Cottage

We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 days at the property. It's a beautiful and cozy cottage surrounded by mountains and nature. Less than 4 miles from PCH and close to many attractions including Santa Monica Pier, Adamson House, Getty Villa, state beaches and hiking trails. Isabelle was a great host. We were greeted with fresh fruits and Apple cider. Kitchen was well stocked. Checkin and checkout process was very smooth. Isabelle also provided beach towels and beach chairs. We will come back.

I picked this listing based on location while visiting family.

Excellent experience. It suited our needs perfectly for a comfortable place to stay. We were greeted with hot apple cider and a nice cheese, cracker and fresh fruit. My kids aged 13 through 20 all commented that they would like to live in a house like this. We didn't spend much time in the unit -- mainly just to sleep at night. The beds are very comfortable. We didn't do any cooking, but the kitchen was well stocked with cooking supplies. There was some noise from Topanga canyon road, but other than that it was very quiet and peaceful. The gardens are beautifully kept and there are good outdoor seating areas. The only negative would be the windy roads -- if driving windy roads is not your thing, might be best to stay elsewhere.

Restful Retreat

This was absolutely a home away from home. Watch a treat to wake to the sun rising over the mountains. It feels rural and yet only 15 minutes from downtown Santa Monica.

Unique experience in LA

Isabella the host is one of the most warm host I have stayed with in my years of travel. The place is outstanding in its natural habitat and then the way it is done up all through recycled and original art. It’s a true example of sustainabile living. Every little thing you want and more of equipment was there all well managed and clean.

Lovely and peaceful!

This welcoming little spot was perfect for our family of four to relax, go on hikes, and take trips to the beach. We would happily come back. Our favorite things were coffee on the porch in the morning and dinners around the big table. The host was gracious and generous.

Cute place, nice location and very friendly owner.

Very nice overall location. Nicely decorated and stocked. Convenient to hiking, ocean, restaurants etc. Nice view from porch. Owner was very easy to communicate with. The road is very narrow and steep and rental parking not great. Outdoor lighting is lacking. Projection screen was a bit annoying to use. One bedroom is just slightly bigger than the bed in it. Definitely not good for more than one person per room.

The mountains by the beach

I have never stayed in Topanga before. It really is an oasis from Los Angeles while still having access to what the city and the coast have to offer. The home is on a stunning hillside overlooking the mountains and is a short drive down the canyon to some of the best beaches in the world (my opinion). The host was so gracious and kind. Thank you for a great stay. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to escape to the mountians of southern california.

Charming oasis

We had a great time staying at Isabelle’s charming rental. From the moment we arrived and throughout our entire stay we felt at home and taken care of. Very few hosts welcome guests with exquisite healthy homemade snacks - Isabelle is one of those rare hosts that go above and beyond to make guests feel comfortable. The location is great - the house is a short drive from the coast and sits up on a hill with pretty views. We hope to come back again!

LA-Adjacent Tranquility

Isabelle's home is the perfect respite for folks who want to be near LA but want to not always be 'in' LA. Cozy, calm, quiet, clean, well-appointed home, GREAT kitchen for those who love to cook, great on-demand hot water, and the comfiest beds ever. So lovely to wake up in the woods each morning. We look forward to staying here again!

My two adult kids and I had a great time staying here. It was the perfect location to visit the area, especially for hiking in Topanga Canyon. The living room is larger than it looks in the pictures, and the bedrooms were very cozy.

Quiet Seclusion

The property is beautiful, clean and Isabelle was a gracious hostess. She went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and at home and the special touches were greatly appreciated. The only challenge was parking, but it is well worth it for the experience.

Great Mountain Escape

Isabelle's place was amazing! A beautiful home in the mountains of Topanga. A short drive to Malibu and surrounding shops and restaurants. Isabelle was also easy to communicate with and greeted us in person, which was very nice. Highly recommended place to stay!

The house is private situated on a two-lot property. I live on the second lot beyond the wooden fence surrounding the area offered for vacation occupancy, and am quick to respond if needed.

It is a joy to share the beautiful surrounding I live in and the lifestyle it affords. My last big voyage was an exotic mother-daughter reunion spending two months traveling through Nepal, India and Sri Lanka with my youngest daughter coming from Australia. Since I started hosting, I have enjoyed welcoming guests from various States and countries. The world comes to me in this way, and being part of Los Angeles, where all cultures are represented, I continue to enjoy a deep connection with people in a spirit of world citizenship. Hosting is a creative expression for me spanning the realms of service, hospitality, interpersonal relations, and cultural exchange. The secret garden in the back will take you on an olfactory journey amidst lavender, scented geraniums, mint, and native plants.
