The Homestead on the Shore -- New Hot Tub!

Make this island gem your Orcas destination! Impeccably restored in 2021, the Homestead combines the best of the past with every modern amenity. Built by settlers in 1906 and representative of Orcas Island history, this coastal classic is centrally located in Eastsound Village. Equally appealing as a romantic get-away or gathering of family and friends, this is the perfect sanctuary from which to launch your island explorations. There’s plenty of room to spread out, with a central great room (kitchen/dining/living room), large deck, slate patio, hot tub and outdoor gazebo with fire pit. Bedrooms include king bed on the main floor, three queen beds upstairs, and two twin daybeds as well. Primary bedroom overlooks the gorgeous view through twin dormers. Fully equipped gourmet kitchen, three flatscreen TV's, high speed internet, gas barbecue, and several desk areas for keeping up on your computer work. In the evenings enjoy a drink in the sea-born breeze, listen to waves on the shore below, and watch the abundant wildlife around Indian Island.

Orcas Island is called one of the most charming travel destinations in America.
You can stroll to the Farmer's Market, enjoy a meal in one of Eastsound's world-class restaurants, and get delicious take-out items to share at home. A bookstore and lattes are just around the corner, bakery across the street and whale watch tours and/or kayak rentals can be arranged nearby. Island Market has all of your grocery needs just two blocks away. The stunning views include the bay, picturesque Eastsound Village, and island sunsets. Located only eight miles from the ferry landing and ten miles from majestic Moran State Park and Mt. Constitution, this is an ideal location for your vacation get-away! Great location and Beautiful view. Kitchen was fully stocked with anything you would need. Lots of games, puzzles and books. Downtown restaurants, the grocery store and park was a 5 minute walk.

Perfect getaway

This house is perfect. Had everything we needed from everything for cooking/eating to laundry detergent. It’s right in town so you can walk everywhere but it’s also quiet. Can’t wait to stay again!

Wonderful place!

Beautiful house in a perfect location. Walking distance to bookstore, coffee, bakery, beach, grocery store. We launched our kayaks from the boat dock down the street. We did lots of cooking and baking - the kitchen has everything you need.

Great weekend getaway

The homestead on the shore was an amazing place, picturesque, beautiful living spaces, open kitchen, modern with old charm, and the view!! House is very walkable to grocery store, farmers market, and all the shops in town. It was a very relaxing place, highly recommend.

Love this place!

This is our second time staying at the property and we loved it even more the second time. It is in the most amazing location and is simply magical. We stayed as a family of 4 with two young children and had everything we needed. Place is very clean and tidy. Can’t wait to stay again!

Great for a family getaway

My family and I loved our stay at this house. The location is perfect - you can walk to restaurants, stores, the farmers market...whatever you need in Eastsound, while still feeling like you're in a private spot with a beautiful view of the sound. The house is really nicely done - the furnishings are beautiful and the kitchen and bathrooms are well stocked. I would absolutely stay here again.

Location and views!

Beautiful home with great views. Short walk to the cute village and shops and restaurants. Easy access to the many wonderful sites on the island. 15-20 minute to ferry.

The perfect getaway

Absolutely loved our stay here. Beautiful weather helped, but whatever the weather, this was a fantastic getaway. The house has old school charm, completely comfortable, wonderfully furnished, with great spaces for relaxing and enjoying Orcas. We had four adults and two kids. Bunk room was great for the toddler, and the supplied travel crib and highchair were great for the baby. I would definitely stay here again.

Location, location, location

We were in Eastsound for a wedding. Everything was so close that it was within walking distance. Good restaurants ( The Island Skillet, Lunas, Mijitas, and Lower Tavern to name a few. We enjoyed our stay at the Homestead very much. Thank you?

Great location, great house

Best in town location on Orcas. Views of the sound were unbelievable. You can walk to town and the grocery store in minutes. The house had great seating and dining options. The outdoor fire pit area was a great gathering place. The place is great for 2 couples. We were a family of 8 which was awkward with the 2 bathrooms since one was located within one of the bedrooms. Also the first floor bedroom, which is very comfortable, is ready for an upgrade on mattress and pillows. All that being said, we rebooked for 2025!

A Perfect Place to Stay!

The Homestead is a beautiful, well-appointed and well-located classic Orcas home. The house is very roomy, easy to live with and has all of the features needed for a wonderful stay in the San Juan Islands. The entire village of Eastsound is easy walking distance yet there is enough of a buffer to feel the relaxing atmoshphere of the waterfront and trees. The owners are extremely easy to work with and are committed to making the experience memorable and trouble-free. We plan to return frequently and continue to develop our relationship with Orcas Island with the help of this lovely home. Thank you again, Susan, for a wonderful stay!

I almost don't want to tell you . . .

this is the best rental on orcas . . .and I've stayed in many! We often struggle with just one rental car, but not in this location because everything in town is around the corner! I hesitate to review this rental because I want to be able to book it in the future and when more people find out, it will get booked up a year in advance. Incredibly clean, stocked with everything that one needs, nice and bright! If you want to feel isolated this might not be the rental for you because you're in the thick of the goings on of town, but for us that was ideal!

We celebrated our 50th anniversary with family at The Homestead. It was a wonderful stay

The Homestead is a wonderful facility and is equiped as described. The vee is very nice. The house is spacious and accompanied the 8 adults in our group very well. The kitchen is well supplied with most everything the gourmet co would require. It is an easy five-minute walk to the center of Eastsound Village and a very nice full-service grocery store with bakery and deli. The only thing that might give some persons with physical limitations pause is the showers are in claw-footed tubs with quite high sides. They worked for us but might be a challenge for some. We loved our stay (July 27-August 3) and heartily endorse The Homestead as a fine place to stay on Orcas Island.

Outstanding House with Outstanding Views

When I walked into this house all I could say is "WOW", due to the location, the amenities and the views. The house is beautifully decorates and appointed in a cottage/beach style! The kitchen and bathrooms are beautiful and well stocked. The views of Eastsound and Indian island were breathtaking. I loved the house and the views so much that I cooked or barbecued every meal at the house, so I could eat and look out over the water. The upstairs master and sitting areas also has outstanding views. The bed was very comfortable and it was made up with soft linens and comfortable pillows! This house is located in the heart of Eastsound so you do get a little road noise during the day, however the trade off is that you can park your walk to everything! My husband and I had a wonderful vacation at the Homestead!

Meticulously restored historic home on Eastsound's waterfront-great for very large or small parties.

I am local to Orcas Island, but rented the Homestead for a large family event with out-of-town guests (5 couples and a toddler). The house is incredibly beautiful and lovingly restored in every way. It is even better than the photos shown in the listing, and we were surprised how very spacious it was. It is well-appointed and furnished, and I would describe the house in general as having a very Pottery Barn feel. We all immediately decided we wanted to live there! As my aunt said, "it has such a great feeling to it--it just hugs you when you come in". It accommodated all my family very comfortably. We were able to cook and host a large dinner there, and the space was more than adequate, with two dining areas, a breakfast bar, and lots of seating. The kitchen really well-stocked with equipment and my husband loved grilling on the deck with the very nice and large propane grill. The location was truly perfect; right in town, but with a very private feel, right on the waterfront. Everyone could go their own ways, explore town, go to the beach, and we had easy access to the Odd Fellows Hall for one of our events. Susan is a most helpful owner, and being a long-time local, had many helpful suggestions for planning our weekend. I was amazed at how reasonable the rate was on this property. Eating out is a breeze, as there are many restaurants, cafes, and bakeries all within walking distance. However, if you'd like to save a few dollars, or just like to cook, the Island Market and Homegrown Market are also just down the street. Quite honestly, this is the best vacation rental I've ever rented! We will definitely be back to this beautiful home.

Yearly trip to Orcas first time at the Homestead

We stayed for 4 nights. There were three of us (my hubby and me and a friend) and our two dogs. We stay at Orcas every year over Easter. We usually stay at West Beach resort because they are dog friendly and right on the ocean facing west. This year we could not get our regular cabin and so I started searching for rentals that took dogs. I want to say first of all how much I appreciate it when I can find a nice property that accepts dogs and is a great place. I wish more pet owner options were available. It was a beautiful old home just around the corner from town so we could take walks every morning to the bakeries (Roses for fabulous bread and Brown Bear for their bear claws). Perfectly situated on the bay with great views of the water. It was nice and clean and very roomy. It has a queen bedroom downstairs along with a bathroom and upstairs had a room with 4 bunk beds, another room with one bed, and the master with a queen bed, sitting area and very roomy. There is also a bathroom upstairs too. Large kitchen with great views of the water, outside deck, a lower patio facing the ocean and a lawn equipped with its very own resident large Easter bunny! Loved the house. If I had a "wish list" or things that could be improved they would be minor, but here goes. It would have been great if there was an outdoor fire pit whether wood burning or gas so we could have sat out at night. I missed not having that. A couple of chaise lounge chairs on the patio for napping would be great too. It would be nice for the main room upstairs to have a king bed for room, especially with a tall husband. I think the upstairs tub was jetted somehow, but it did not work and there was the slightest musty smell when you turned the corner to go up the second set of stairs. It was faint, but there. Don't let this deter you as I said this was all minor. I would stay there again in a minute, we had such a great time and it is a beautiful place in a beautiful location. For the 4th of July fireworks you would not have to leave the deck to see the show (assuming they still do fireworks). Thanks again for the enjoyable stay and for being dog friendly!!!!!!!!

We have always loved this house as an intrinsic architectural element on the Eastsound shoreline. It appears in some of the oldest photos of the town. We feel honored to have had the opportunity to give it renewed life for another hundred years.

Sipping coffee or a glass of wine on the deck, breathing in that clear island air, and contemplating the view! We also love wandering around the village, hiking in the Turtleback Mountain Reserve, and exploring Moran State Park. We know many of the restauranteurs in town and love the many delicious varied options for an evening out.
