Lovely property, quiet area, but alarming deposit process

Firstly, this is a lovely property. It was spacious, and quiet, in a nice neighbourhood. We had a great time once we arrived. One thing to flag was that there was no hot water, so all 7 of us had lukewarm showers both days that we stayed. The serious problem was being asked to pay a damage deposit, mere hours before check-in, with the threat of a cancelled stay if we didn't. By the time I heard about the deposit, most of our group were in Bristol, and would have been totally stranded if we didn't transfer money to the host's bank account. I understand the host's need for a deposit, and we didn't damage the property so it was returned to us promptly, but the timing was a huge stress; in the middle of the work day, when there were weeks beforehand to have discussed the need for a deposit. I'd happily recommend anyone to stay (if the water is fixed), but ensure you pay a damage deposit within the Vrbo booking process, otherwise you'll be asked to on check-in day, which may not be easy for those travelling from afar on that day. I believe the host has set up a deposit process within the booking on Vrbo now, but I have to make others aware not to book without that deposit included in the price, it was so stressful.

Hello, Thank you for your review. Apologies if the damage deposit caused you undue worry. The hot water was not something you mentioned during or after your stay. If so, I would have sorted this immediately. I haven’t had feedback of this from any other guests and I host every week on two other platforms. I also might add that VRBO are yet to pay me for any guest that has stayed at my property. Since beginning in summer last year. As such I am not sure I will be continuing with using this platform. My flat is available on other sites who do transfer the money to me after guests stay. So in fact I hosted this guest and others for free. Nicky

This person did not stay at my property. So not sure how he can have reviewed my flat. It was cancelled, and I didn’t receive payment. So not sure why VRBO has enabled a review.
