Located in Carova in the 4X4 area, a short walk or drive to the beach. Four-wheel drive is required as our home is 10 miles down the beach from the pavement. Enjoy what this 3-bedroom house has to offer. With a pleasant and delightful ambiance, our property provides a cozy retreat for up to 7 guests. The bedrooms feature a comfortable king bed, queen bed, twin over full bunk bed ensuring a restful night's sleep. The house also offers WiFi, AC, and a washing machine and dryer for your convenience. The 3 bathrooms are equipped with showers, providing a refreshing Enjoy the panoramic views of the ocean in our crow's nest. Also the unique attraction of the wild horses! We hope you enjoy what our place and Carova has to offer.

New and not used hard. The top deck was excellent for viewing. The deck wasn’t splintered, no worries with the kids walking barefoot on it. Very organized kitchen. Washer and dryer located in foyer and was a good area for a drop zone. The neighbors failed to clean up after their dog pooped in the yard. We considered letting the two year old poop in their yard. The walk to the beach was easy. I would recommend a beach wagon so that you don’t have to drive your vehicle.

Beautiful home. A beautiful location and excellent first trip to Carova! The only negative I have is that we didn’t stay longer.! We will definitely be back and hope to be able to rent this beauty in the future

Immaculate house on the best part of the beach

What an amazing home! We’ve been to Carova several times before, but this was hands down the cleanest house with the nicest furnishings. It really felt like home. The location is perfect, nestled up at the northern part of the beach with partial ocean views. We will definitely be staying again!

Our stay at the Salty Mermaid Beach House was absolutely incredible! From the moment we walked in, we were impressed by how clean, beautiful, and well-appointed everything was. The house had everything our family needed and more.One of the things that stood out most to me was the beds. We have been vacationing at this beach and staying in different rental homes for over 15 years, and this is the first time I have genuinely looked forward to getting into bed each night. The mattresses were spotless, comfortable, and felt truly luxurious. A clean and comfortable bed can make or break a vacation, and Salty Mermaid exceeded every expectation.The attention to detail throughout the home was amazing. We loved having remotes for the lights and ceiling fans in the rooms, and it was obvious that no corners were cut when this house was built and furnished. Everything was thoughtfully designed, high quality, and well maintained.I also want to give a special thank-you to Kristen. I had quite a booking fiasco, and she was nothing but patient, kind, and helpful throughout the entire process. She went above and beyond, and I am so grateful for her professionalism and understanding.I could go on and on about how wonderful this house is. My family made amazing memories here, and we are incredibly grateful we had the opportunity to stay at the Salty Mermaid Beach House. If you’re looking for a beautiful, comfortable, and truly exceptional place to stay, this is it.

24 OBX Family Summer Vacation

We had a great stay at the Salty Mermaid! The house was very clean and nicely located to the beach. Our host was very responsive and communicated quickly and accurately, answering any questions or concerns we had. We were able to see some horses regularly near the property which provided an up close experience.

The Salty Mermaid was heavenly

We’ve been vacationing Corolla for 27 years. This is the first time we didn’t rent a huge house on the beach. It was probably the nicest, up to date, decorated house we’ve ever stayed in. Would stay there again in a heartbeat. And probably will! ~joe and shannon

The Salty Mermaid

My wife and kids won't stop talking about our visit to the Salty Mermaid. I loved the location and the house was perfect. It felt like home from the moment we walked in the door, except even better. The host was amazing. I can't say enough about Kristen! I have not ever had a bad vacation rental experience but this was the absolute best experience we have ever had. We can't wait to go back!

Great getaway

This was such an awesome experience. We loved the horses and being away from a busy town. We did have some difficulty getting there due to rain but definitely not anyone’s fault. In mother natures control. Found a couple small things under the beds from past guests but other than that the house was cleanly! The owner was very nice. We would stay again for sure!

Easy Living

We had a wonderful time at the salty Mermai Lodge! Kristen and Dave are fantastic hosts. They made sure we had everything we needed for an amazing week on the beach.We had so many highlights like taking long walks on the beaches, seeing so many wild horses, and enjoying family meals on the second and third floor decks with panoramic ocean views. Our 17 and 20 year-old sons even met a local guy who lent them his fishing rigs and they caught a red drum one late night after tide head gone down. It was a week we will never forget!!Remember to bring all extra cooking, bathroom, soap etc supplies with you or it’s a 45 minute drive to Corolla after airing up and down. We flew from the Midwest and needed to buy a lot of supplies but it was fine!

If you are looking for a relaxing, low-key getaway with a spectacular house that truly feels like a home, this is the place for you.The house itself is beautiful, spotless, and incredibly well-crafted. It is clear that every single detail was thoughtfully planned out, especially the charming "Salty Mermaid" themed decor that ties the whole place together perfectly. We absolutely loved spending time on the spacious decks, which were perfect for soaking in the gorgeous views and just unwinding.For those who love to cook, the chef’s kitchen is a dream—it is fully equipped with absolutely everything you need to whip up your favorite meals.As for the location, the beach is stunning, clean, and wide open with tons of space to sprawl out and enjoy the sun. A major highlight was seeing the wild horses coming right onto the 4x4 beach! It was an unforgettable experience. We couldn't have asked for a better stay. Highly recommended!
