Winter Storm Note: In the event of a forecasted, significant, snow accumulation during your stay, owners will advise and accommodate a no-hassle, last-minute, change of dates…as entry and exit on the county gravel roads and the 400 ft. driveway will be nearly impossible.

Whether you're looking for a magical retreat to hibernate in total comfort—or a cozy home base for outdoor adventure—this completely renovated A-frame cabin is exactly what you need. With 2 bedrooms and space to sleep 6 guests, it’s nestled on 2 private wooded acres, directly bordering 2,700 acres of protected DNR land.

Perched 80 feet above and overlooking Big Walnut Creek, Smith Cabin offers peace, seclusion, and a deep connection to nature. Enjoy quiet mornings on the front porch, evenings around the campfire patio, or restful afternoons in the stunning screened-in back deck—suspended in the treetops and complete with a bed for sleeping on milder nights.

Inside, the 1000 sq. foot A-frame is warm, welcoming, and thoughtfully furnished with all modern comforts, including memory foam beds (sleeper sofa, too), blackout curtains for restful sleep, and a well-equipped kitchen.

IMPORTANT upper level note: The upper level is all one space with no door between BR1 and BR2. Also, the steps to the upper level are somewhat steep, but EASY and SAFE to use when navigated like a ladder. However, some prefer/need to sleep on the main level, on the comfy sofa sleeper, to eliminate navigating the steep steps.

Stay connected with strong, free, high-speed internet and reliable cell signal. (Bring your own streaming device—the cabin doesn’t have a TV, by design.)

The cabin was exceptionally well put together, very clean, and thoughtfully organized. There wasn’t anything I needed that I couldn’t easily find in the house. It was very quiet, with an excellent view out the back. I definitely plan on booking this cabin again.

Better then the pictures do it justice, great getaway for my girlfriend and me, I was a little nervous the ceilings might be to low but they were not, im 6'8" and could easily stand up straight, the cabin you could tell was someones piece of paradise that the owners where sharing with us, very good stay, definitely would stay here again.

Just as described and this property and host delivered an excellent stay that exceeded expectations. Everything was thoughtfully labeled and provided for an enjoyable stay. This was the perfect spot for a quiet and relaxing family birthday weekend. The porch overlooking the treetops was a highlight and the kitchen was very functional and beyond what I’ve experienced in any other stay. The host was proactively responsive and accommodating as well.

We liked the place a lot. It was clean and had everything we needed for our stay. We really liked the screened in porch, it was very peaceful to sit on while drinking our coffee in the mornings. We will definitely be stay there again in the future.

Charming get away

The house is very nice for a solo trip, a couple or for a small group. The house is on the small side, as expected, but the gorgeous screened in porch is the place to be, especially with cool weather and a nice breeze. While there's not that much room indoors, the outdoor area is also top notch, with a large fire pit and plenty of seating. Also, the lawn is well maintained lawn and there seems to be lots of wild life about. There are lots of little notes around the house telling you how things work, which is great because they are short, to the point and unambiguous. Made it easier to figure out how to work things or where things were. The property manager is nice and responsive. Will try to come back again, as I really enjoyed a few days without the city hustle.

Beautiful wooded retreat

Stayed with 5 adults and 1 teen. A little off the beaten track, but quiet and peaceful, in a wooded setting. Plenty of comfortable beds, a screened in porch and a fire pit. There is a lounge on the screen porch that can convert to a bed, which my wife and I loved for the cool nights we were there. We were out doing other things most days, so didnt fully take advantage of all the amenities, but would highly recommend!

Beautiful, cozy cabin with great hosts

My fianceé and I had the most peaceful stay in this cozy a-frame cabin on the bluff. It has all the necessities to be comfortable while still giving us a much-needed disconnect from the city. We cooked all our meals in the well-stocked kitchen, and enjoyed sleeping upstairs in the large, comfortable bed. Debbie the kind host was very communicative and made sure we had everything we needed. We were lucky to have a nice snow fall that made our hike on the country road even more magical. We'll definitely be back!

Beautiful A-frame & views!

The Smith’s were so kind, stayed in contact throughout the stay and were extremely easy to work with. The cabin is absolutely stunning, a little slice of heaven and a perfect place for a getaway with plenty of stars! We will absolutely be coming back!

There is elevation in Indiana?!

Wow. Literally feels like you’re in the canopy of the trees when you’re on the enclosed porch. The main bed was super comfy, but we moved down to sleep on the loveseat(?) because it was so special out there…you’re laying up in the trees and overlooking the river below. Everything was great, clean, communicative host (Debbie), etc. But that porch stands out!!

[Important to Note] While VRBO guests can be assured they will be the only occupants during the entirety of their stay, guests will quickly notice that Smith Cabin is also enjoyed by the owners. Signage has been thoughtfully placed inside the cabin to assist guests regarding "owners" items and closets to avoid.

As we said before, God's plan was for us to have this place. That is the only explanation for how we were able to find it.

Where do we begin. It's beautiful. It's private. It's safe. Everywhere we look we see uniqueness...from the treetop setting and Walnut Creek, 80 feet down, behind the cabin; to the wooded-ravine-terrain on three sides of where the cabin perches; to the 2700 acres of DNR woods as our neighbor; to the A-frame that we were able to design from the studs; to the Rolling Stone covered bridge 1/2 mile away; to our gravel road traced on maps since 1867, yet drawing very few cars; to the small town of Bainbridge, offering groceries and restaurants only 8 minutes away... these are just some of the reasons Smith Cabin stands out.
