Amazing People & Pet-Welcoming Country Haven

Cavalier Cottage B&B is a very pet-friendly lodging between Charlemont and Shelburne Falls in beautiful western Mass. It’s a lovely alternative to a hotel and perfect for those traveling with pets. Now in its 12th year, Cavalier Cottage has clearly answered a need for genuinely pet-friendly accommodations.

Nestled at the base of the Charlemont hills, located on a quiet country road, Cavalier Cottage has everything you need to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Guests say the cottage “has a special air of tranquility.” Most pets settle right in with no sense of strangeness and their human companions find themselves absorbing the peace and calm of their surroundings.

Cavalier Cottage is convenient to the scenic Mohawk Trail (Route 2) and many outdoor activities in beautiful western Mass., with its quaint villages, and home to a great variety of iconic educational and cultural destinations, including (in North Adams) MassMoCa, the Clarke Institute of Art and Williams College Art Museum. Charlemont has food destinations like Avery’s General store, the CrazyHorse bar at Berkshire East. Shelburne Falls has Mocha Maya’s (espresso drinks) and lots of pubs and food eateries.

Cavalier Cottage is a home away from home for all seasons; perfect for week-long vacations, weekend or mid-week getaways, writer’s retreats, house-hunting visits, and temporary lodging during relocation.

We had a lovely stay at Cavalier Cottage with our two pups. The cottage is cozy, clean and adorable. Patricia was very welcoming and accommodating. We came here to ski and Berkshire East is just a few miles away. We also found some great hiking spots for the dogs and had fun exploring Shelburne Falls.

Patricia was a very accommodating host. She was there to meet us and say goo-bye. She temporarily loaned us a windshield scraper on the last morning. The unit was clean, decorated very nicely, and had all we needed. The kitchen had all essentials (including coffee, tea, cereals, butter, milk), which travelers might not carry. The daily muffins and OJ were appreciated. The location might not be urban enough for everyone, but we liked it. Would definitely stay again if in the area.

My two dogs and I had a wonderful stay. Everything was very clean and easy. I have not had a Vrbo where I have had such an easy time with my dogs. They were happy and so was I!

Quaint, clean, lovely rural setting. Funky and stylish interior. Kitchen area set up with anything that you would need. Fresh home-cooked English scones left at our doorway in the morning with orange juice with was quite a treat. Owner, friendly and accommodating.

Lovely, quiet little cottage

My dog and I traveled from CT to the Cavalier Cottage to escape the fireworks which bother both of us. The cottage is quaint and comfortable, the peace and quiet is blessed, and Patricia, the hostess could not have been nicer.

Secluded cabin with great communication

We barely spent any time at the cabin as we were attending graduation at a nearby boarding school. Communication was excellent and Patricia was flexible with our arrival time. It was all that we needed for two adults and two kids. Lovely warm scones left outside the door for breakfast. It’s clear that Patricia cares deeply about her property and guests. It’s a perfect retreat for anyone needing some solitude. It’s slightly off the beaten track but directions were perfect and map was accurate. I should have realized this because it’s called B&B, but the owner lives in the left hand side of the cottage and the rental is on the right, it’s not a stand alone storage. That was my fault for not reading properly.

Ski weekend

My daughter had a the day ski race at Berkshire East. This cottage was a perfect spot near the mountain and the restaurants in Shelburn Falls.

Quaint getaway in the Berkshires

Perfectly located for our trip to both ski and explore the Berkshires. Worked great for our dog and the whole family loved the fresh morning scones. Would absolutely stay again.

Beagle holiday

My daughter and I brought our 2 beloved Beagles for their first lengthy car ride and holiday to Pat’s lovely rescue haven. As our little guys are also rescues, we are endeavoring to give them the best life ever….experiencing Cavalier Cottage allowed us to do just that. Many thanks to Pat and all her very loved rescues for sharing this slice of Heaven with us. We will be back.

Reconnecting with friends

We’re originally from the area. It was great to connect with friends, ski at Berkshire East, and enjoy the ever changing weather. It was nice to find a place where we could bring our dog.

There was no stay. We made the mistake of arriving one day early. Once we saw the property, is was discussing. Did not go back.

Long weekend Stay

Patricia was very nice. Comfortable bed. Very clean, but many moths and some crawling bugs we had to take care of. Instructions for TV use would be helpful, and explicit directions, and or map to Sunburn Beach would be very helpful. Close to a lot of shopping, rafting/kyaking.

Enjoyed the cavalier cottage

Cozy and comfortable cottage that is very pet friendly. It was nice to bring our small dogs and feel at home. Delicious coffee and scones made by the host each morning too

No wonder Patricia is a super host!

We had a great time at Cavalier cottage. The place was really comfortable; we had everything we needed; and the bed was really super. Patricia was very responsive to any questions that we had. The location is really out there in the woods with a 10 minute drive to town. It was especially nice to be able to go on vacation with our dogs and to have them feel at home. We too felt very at home. We will definitely keep Cavalier Cottage on our list of favorites.

Perfect stay for us and the pup!

Cozy and lovely cottage located in a beautiful wooded area on the perfect road for dog walks. Delightful host with her own canine pack made us feel right at home, and we enjoyed the morning scones. The location is great- just outside of Shelburne Falls, home to the Bridge of Flowers, glacial pools, and delicious restaurants (esp Hearty Eats)and vintage shops. It was east to take day trip to Mt Greylock, Historic Deerfield etc. This was our annual fall foliage trip and the leaves this year were spectacular. All in all, Cavalier Cottage was a perfect stay in every way.

Summer Camp Stay

We stayed here so my child could attend a summer camp in the area. This property more than met our need for this activity and also allowed me to work from the property. We enjoyed our time there and would recommend this property to others looking to stay in the area.

Great find!

Low key, charming accommodations in a quiet country area. Everything I needed was available. Just know that there is no cell service in the dwelling or right outside of it. Knowing that ahead of time would have been helpful so that anyone trying to reach me would not be concerned. But certainly not a dealbreaker and it was actually nice to be unplugged for a change. I would go again if traveling to the area. Pat greeted us warmly and made us welcome. Thank you!

A Perfect, Dog Friendly Getaway

If you are looking for a super clean, comfortable, cottage with lots of amenities, a next-door friendly and accommodating host, and that welcomes pets, you will not find better anywhere in Northwestern Massachusetts. The host has obviously gone to great lengths to make the cottage, not only comfortable, but also very charming. The cottage feels remote but is just a few miles from historic Shelburne Falls, with good restaurants and interesting shops and galleries. Our time at the cottage was delightful.
