This well-equipped and comfortable, beautifully decorated home in Ocean Sands is the perfect family vacation spot. From the community beach access to the local shops and restaurants nearby, there is no shortage of things to do to keep your whole family happy. Section F in Ocean Sands.

The Private 12x26 Swimming Pool is sure to be a hit after spending the day on the Beach & the Hot Tub is perfect if more relaxation is needed.

This vacation home is where you, your family, and your pet (dogs only- max 2) will want to relax and enjoy spending quality time, by the sea!

Rating Details: The property manager was very unhelpful. The vacation rental was very dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Love the location. The property was perfect size and what we wanted for pool and hot tub etc. It was not clean when we checked in. The owner had been there and just left at 3 we were told. We were not reimbursed for the inconvenience of cleaning the kitchen, floors and refrigerator when we arrived. Thankfully a staff member arrived to help clean the lower level, sweep the carpet and clean bathrooms. This was up to 4 hours of our first day after driving 12. We were told we'd be given a call back on reimbursement after management talked to the owner and we never were called. This is unprofessional not to call us back and act like we'd forget. Any answer would have been better than none.Also, an outdoor light fell off the wall because of corrosion. This property has way to good of a location to be so poorly maintained. I'd buy it for it's location and renovate immediately if I could.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: First off I want to make it clear that if looking to stay in this house do not bring anyone where stairs are trouble. There are flights of stairs to get to everything in and around the house as well and a hike to the beach. Aside from that and that there are some parts of the house that are dilapidated we had a great time. There were aspects that you can tell the owner tried to make the stay comfortable that maybe others might miss. New floors in the living area, living room furniture in great shape, the hot tub seems almost new AND the AC did a great job keeping us cool. The house exterior could benefit from some work as well as a thorough cleaning (construction materials littering the grounds).

Location was phenomenal to the beach. We could bring our dog. The pool was fantastic for the grandbaby and for us older folks. The hot tub was a nice evening soak to relax and enjoy the sound of the waves. Plenty of room for everyone. Very private to enjoy family without lots of distractions. Ready to go back again!

I loved the location. The property is owned by a ā€œslum lordā€. Refused to fix hole in bathroom. Dirty. Screens broken. Cobwebs and spiders. Microwave sparked when we turned it on. Exactly what we expected

The house was accurately described and depicted. I read a handful of reviews that complained of the cleanliness and damages. While obvious that this house needs some upgrades and repairs, it still had everything we needed and worked just the way we needed. The ceiling on the first floor was wrecked and there were towel racks and shower bars missing but the location was unbeatable. We drove on the beach a few days and walked to the beach near the house a few days. Would 100% stay here again. We had an issue with the AC one day for a few hours and the maintenance department was on top of it and so communicative. Overall any concerns with this house are superficial and cosmetic at most.

Amazing location!

We had a great week! The proximity to the beach is amazing!! The house could use some updates, but it was very comfortable! The furniture was nice and comfortable, but some of the the bedā€™s mattressā€™ could use replacing. Thereā€™s a grocery store within minutes. The cleanliness wasnā€™t the best. They might want to consider a different cleaner. Be sure to bring plenty of trash bags, toilet paper for 3 restrooms, paper towels, bed sheets, pillow cases, and dishwasher soap, because none of thatā€™s provided.

Dirty and needed repairs

The house was dirty and needed many repairs even the pool need repairs. Took pics as per the property management and sent them in so i wouldn't be held responsible. Dishwasher broke but was replaced quickly. The kitchen and bathrooms all needed to be updated. But it was in a good spot close to the beach.

The home boasts an impressive location, with a partial ocean view and convenient 30 second walk to the beach (the only house without a walkway to the communal walkway).However, upon entering the home, we were greeted by an unpalatable sight. The overall cleanliness of the property left much to be desired. There was a pervasive lack of attention to detail that was immediately apparent. It seemed like the property hadn't been thoroughly cleaned in some time. This was especially true of the exterior doors and windows, which were smeared with fingerprints, we were told by the cleaning crew that they ā€˜do not clean exteriorsā€™.The house itself felt dated and untouched since the early 2000s, with wear and tear evident in many areas. It was a disappointment to see that the homeowners hadn't invested in any significant updates or repairs. Many aspects of the house were sub-par and this significantly detracted from our overall comfort and enjoyment during our stay.One saving grace was the pool, which was enjoyable once it was cleaned. We were disappointed, however, to find it in a less than pristine state upon our arrival, and it required additional cleaning by a pool professional. This incident, though resolved, further emphasized the overarching theme of poor maintenance.As for the service, the cleaning crew's policy of not cleaning exteriors left us with an added burden, detracting from our valuable vacation time. This policy, combined with the overall state of the home, left a bad taste in our mouth. Especially because we ended up cleaning the fingerprints off ourselves. Great location

We loved that we could bring our dog. There were some issues that need to be fixed with the sliding doors, screens, curtain rod and some bathroom towel rods, but overall the location made up for most of these issues.

Look to the left and the beach is empty! And thereā€™s a pool. Not many of the houses near us had one so this was a definite plus. The house....ouch. The house needs some major love. The interior was repainted at some point but itā€™s a terrible paint job with mismatched colors used during touch-ups. The kitchen is pretty gross. I really have no words for the backsplash behind the stove. The fridge has something growing on the handle. And then thereā€™s the decking. Some boards have been replaced. Some are painted, some are stained. The bathrooms are in need of updating and fixing the holes in the downstairs shower stalls. The owners really need to find a reputable person to do some quality updates to this house. I did appreciate the updated flooring on the main level!

Reviewer Comments: Dakota Blue Jay was unfortunately the worst rental we have stayed in down in Corolla/Duck. When we arrived the place was filthy. The bathrooms were slightly clean, but the counters not wiped, floors never vacuumed or cleaned. There were rat size hair balls behind doors, under my bed, that blew out when we opened doors, and clumps in the middleOf the floor. There were old peanuts in the bathroom, pieces of lettuce on the floor; it was gross! I had twin one year olds crawling on the floor eating sand, hair, and dirt. I called Carolina shores and they promised to send someone out to clean. Later that day they claimed they did, and the cleaning lady said she cleaned around our stuff. LIE. Still not vacuumed etc. did I mention the comforters had dog hair all over them. Before we even went to the beach, my children complained of sand in their bed that had to have been dragged in on their feet from the dirty floor. Needless to say I had to clean the place myself because I needed to be able to let my babies on the ground. Lastly, a live cockroach fell on my head when we turned the fan on. It was horrible! All in all, the only credit I can give is they refunded me $90 for the cleaning. Will never stay here again.

Reviewer Comments: I have vacationed in Outer Banks Rental Properties for the past twenty years. Accordingly, I always expect them to have minor problems and not be as clean as some may prefer. Nonetheless, Dakota Blue Jay was the worst house I have ever rented. It was unfortunately in horrible condition and filthy, very outdated, and in a state of disrepair. To name a few qualms, bathrooms were missing towel racks, neither set of sliding glass doors worked properly, the outdoor furniture was substandard, kitchen supplies were inadequate, and cosmetic features were unsatisfactory. Pictures of the property displayed umbrellas on the porch and around the pool, yet were not provided. The concrete around the pool was crumbling and falling apart. The hot tub jets did not work and could not be repaired as they did not have the parts. The mattresses were awful quality, beds classified as twin beds were no more than trundle 4 inch cot mattresses, the inside of the fridge leaked, and the washer, located under the house, leaked water onto the floor. Straightforwardly, the property needs a major overhaul. After I spent the first day washing all of the linens and disinfecting everything, my family enjoyed spending quality time with one another. A positive review I can offer includes the location of the property and short walk to the ocean. Regrettably, I would not recommend Dakota Blue Jay.

First off the proximity to the beach was great. The dune between the house and the beach was very high, so there are lots of stairs. The pool and the hot tub were great for the kids. Now the problems, the house need repair and updating. I am sure that I am not the only one reviewing the house this way. There are also lots of debris under the house that I feel are dangerous. Old building materials, ladders laying around, broken frames from disgarded sun shelters. It obvious that no one maintains the outside. The first thing that my wife noted as soon as we got there was blood on one of the pillows and blood on one of the conforters. We called right away and a crew came by to get the soiled items but did not bring replacements. There was also water coming in to one of the bedrooms from a crack in the shower above it. The leak was old and again I am sure that Im not the only one reporting this. The house was just not clean. Even on the first day walking barefoot in the house resulted in dirty feet. The house suited our needs, but I will not rent this same house unless things are updated.

Overall very good

The location was excellent, the house overall was good although the hot tub needs to be fixed as only 1 set of jets worked. I highly suggest a better cleaning crew as one of the bedrooms had a dirty baby diaper under it and a cup with something that's smelled terrible in it under another bed. Over all experience was very good. We love the OBX

Wonderful Family Vacation Home

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This house is great! Itā€™s just steps away from the beach access and in a central location in Corolla. We enjoyed the private pool and hot tub each day! The house was decorated nicely with an overall beach theme that made it feel more special. Comfortable furniture and beds! We had all the tools necessary to make meals in the kitchen.

Family Time

Great location! Property is in need of a little TLC. It is pretty well stocked with everything you need. There is a nice big table for games and puzzles and comfy couches. Curtains and homey touches would be a plus. The refrigerator was disgusting when we got there. And there were ants. Overall cleanliness other than that was fine. The hot tub jets did not really work very well. The pool was great! The laundry room was little sketchy but functional once you find it. It was a family vacation for us with pets. There were 5 of us. Overall we had a great time And I would stay here again because of the location and The pet friendly. There are some grassy areas to walk your dogs along.

Needs work but great location

We have been coming to OBX for over twenty years from Virginia Beach and are very familiar with how property rentals work. We rented this house after debating on making the annual trip this year (Covid) so there were not many properties available that fit what we needed on shorter notice. I feel it is easy to tell the difference between someoneā€™s beach house they love and rent to offset some expense, and an investment property the owner doesnā€™t want to have to put any money into. Guessing this one is the latter. Some basic upkeep and maintenance would make this house a much much more comfortable property. Pros: We are fortunate enough to be able to rent a beach house for a week with our family, therefore we had an amazing time! Short walk to the beach and close to Corolla stores and restaurants Pool is essential for the kiddos. Doggy friendly! Cul de sac is nice and quiet and the view is nice considering itā€™s not directly oceanfront. Problems addressed quickly after property manager was informed (day after check in) Cons: The condition of the house makes it appear dirty. During a pandemic, itā€™s not exactly relaxing. Owner doesnā€™t pay for beds to be made or provide linens and towels, so having to hunt for those things then make five beds upon arrival was no fun. Especially bunk beds. Maybe at least set appropriate bedding on the beds they belong to? Places weā€™ve stayed before have had little details that make it nice, like board games for the kids, DVDs, extra blankets, etc. This place had a few things, but again, maybe were purchased around 15-20 years ago. A coat of paint and a deep clean would really make this place happy. So much potential!!! We still had a great time because OBX is a beautiful part of the world and being able to rent a beach house for a week with my family doesnā€™t suck.

Needs Upfating

Rating Details: The property manager was adequately helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Great location and easy access to the beach, however the house in in serious need of a renovation. Carpets and floors were filthy. The pool is nice but the deck furniture needs to be replaced. The decks on the house also need some attention.
