Regarding the critical remark of not providing spices and oil: This is communicated in our house description. If we do provide condiments, there's the following problem: They have to be provided in new, unopened containers for each arriving guest, and the leftovers must be thrown away after departure. This isn't sustainable and difficult to implement given the often short stays of guests in Mahahual. Our caretaker can always provide spices and oil from his inventory if requested.

Thank you for your critical review, as it helps to identify potential problems and to improve the stay of future guests. I am very sorry that our house did not meet your expectations. As you can see from virtually all previous reviews over the last few years, our guests are generally very satisfied. In the months and weeks leading up to your stay and during your stay, the weather this season was unusually rainy and stormy. These unusual circumstances meant that our caretaker had limited opportunities to keep our large property completely clean at all times. This includes, as you put it, “TLC.” Our house is completely off-grid. We produce our own electrical energy with solar panels and therefore cannot offer certain energy-hungry amenities (e.g. microwave, etc.). These facts are detailed in the description of the house. The warm climate, together with the warm and salty air, is unfortunately very hard on our devices and household equipment (especially due to rust) and so we have to replace them or buy new devices almost every year. Our caretaker always checks the functionality of the devices before new guests arrive and the fact that the hot water boiler failed during your stay is very unfortunate. Our caretaker immediately ordered a new boiler and has now installed it. This was not immediately possible during your stay due to the short period of time.

Dear Imke and Andreas, Thanks for the kind review and we are very glad that you had a good and relaxing family vacation at Casa del Cielo de las Estrellas. September and October are the wettest months of the year at the Costa Maya (peak of the rainy season) and therefore, mosquitoes are more abundant than usually and they are noticeable during periods of a weak sea breeze (which normally keeps bugs away from the beach areas). During other months of the years, especially during the dry season from December through May, bugs are hardly ever a problem. In any case, in preparation of a visit of the Costa Maya, we recommend packing some bug repellent with high DEET content, as it may not available in Mahahual for sale if needed. Best wishes, Rudolf
