We traveled from Fort Lauderdale to Richmond to visit family. The apt was clean & looked exactly like the photos. Beautiful & safe neighborhood. You can walk to some nearby restaurants. The only complaint I have is hearing people walk above us in the upstairs unit, but it was fine.

Location is perfect if you want to experience the homely aspects of Richmond. It is close to many great spots for families and great casual dining experiences. VMFA is a dream. Only drawbacks to this property is that it's a shared unit and these old houses are not very sound proof. My situation was different in that I had napping babies, so any noise upstairs was more bothersome for us. I wish I had known more about that going in. Response time of the host is great and they were fair and helpful. Would recommend it to anyone!

These older homes have lots of charm, but sound can travel between the units, and we're sorry that caught you off guard. This was a great place to stay. We loved the house and the neighborhood and the amenities are great. I would absolutely stay here again! Other people in the reviews mentioned noise from upstairs. These house are historic houses so there was noise upstairs but it didn't bother us. There was no noise at bedtime. The fact that the house is historic is amazing but it does come with the ability to hear quite a bit of waking and stomping upstairs. I would not let it deter you from booking this place.

nice, spacious, clean, great location to all things historic in the Fan, BUT- bring your own towels! 5 people, 3 days-- 5 towels, 5 washcloths, 2 hand towels- "not sure" more could not be provided - had to do laundry for clean towels daily. not really what we planned to do while in Richmond. Rules lists everywhere! But a nice space in a great neighborhood!

The Fan is a pretty sweet spot for exploring Richmond, so we’re glad the home gave you a clean, roomy place to come back to. For towels, we provide a standard set based on the registered guest count so every stay starts properly stocked and our housekeeping team can keep inventory consistent between turnovers. If guests need anything beyond the standard setup, we’re always happy to check what may be available at the time. For anyone who prefers a fresh towel each day, the in-unit washer and dryer also make that easy. The house guidelines are there to keep expectations clear and help the home stay in good shape for everyone who comes through. Overall, we’re glad the space and neighborhood worked well for your trip.

The home was wonderful in every respect. Great location, spacious rooms, beautiful, well equipped kitchen and the dining area had a large table with ample seating. The front porch was really nice but we were on the go so much we didn't have time to just enjoy sitting and relaxing. Our host couldn't have been better. Response was very quick and we felt we were at a friend's home instead of a rental.

This very lovely flat was ideal for our visit. It is perfectly located, completely convenient, very well appointed - the only thing we were in need of was our groceries for the week which we obtained quite conveniently by foot. A very walkable city, the flat is very convenient to just about everything culturally and historically. We enjoyed Richmond so much. Our only task was to explore!!

Lovely house in Fan District

Great place to stay close to museums, restaurants, and shopping. The space was very comfortable and clean. We were able to walk to the VMFA and several restaurants. Host was helpful and responsive.

Deeply upsetting and genuinely awful experience. Only leaving a star so that future renters are made aware. Details and supporting evidence included in formal complaints filed with VRBO and BBB. I am a longtime VRBO customer and have never left an unhappy review. This is real.

We’re sorry for the family situation that came up during your trip. That said, your request was related to a change in personal plans, not an issue with the home itself. No property concerns were reported during the stay, and because the reserved dates could not be rebooked, we were not able to offer a refund or future credit. We truly wish your family well.

Weekend in the fan

My family and I decided to stay in the fan instead of work family in short pump area and we had the best time! Just sitting on the porch or walking to the market and dinner- we didn’t want to leave. It’s lovely this time of year and the apt was clean, new and will go back when we can!

Grove Avenue Richmond Getaway

The location of the property is fabulous. Quiet neighborhood, no problem with parking and easily accessible to Cary Street district and the Museum of Fine Arts. The front porch was wonderful when I had my morning coffee. A few drawbacks that need to be noted. The second bathroom shower did not have any water flow. My daughter ended up taking showers in the bathroom I used at the back of the house. This bathroom could use a good scrub. The house seemed dusty and could use a once over with a vacuum and/or swiffer.

This was a very pretty home and nice location, however for the price it was incredibly restrictive and not very accommodating and the service response was not nearly as quick as one would expect. It was frustrating that there was a clear cut cap on the number of people allowed in the home, not providing any flexibility for a couple of our family members to join us for a dinner at the home. We were also not allowed to use any of the outdoors areas, despite all of these areas being completely unused the 4 days we were there. There were also several things broken within the unit prior to our arrival, and while the property manager offered to fix them, it was frustrating that better care wasn’t given to previous cleaning and maintenance as they were all obvious issues (front door knob broken, dirty clothing left in the dining room, toilet seat falling off). A toilet also became backed up while there and it took nearly an entire day to get someone out to fix it. Parking was available and the neighborhood was walkable. However the home provided little more than a place to sleep, far less than we were hoping for. One last note is that the house is not very sound proof, you could hear every foot step upstairs in the unit above which made sleeping difficult. Overall, unfortunately would not recommend, despite us having had high hopes.

Thanks for sharing your experience. We’re glad the location worked well for your stay. The guest limit and outdoor-area rules are in place to protect the home, respect the neighbors, and keep everything on an even keel for everyone. When the doorknob, clothing left behind, and toilet issue were reported, our team rolled up our sleeves, stayed on the ball, and had a plumber out the same day. We also worked to arrange additional cleaning afterward. The toilet seat and upstairs noise concerns were not brought to our attention during the stay, so we did not have the chance to address those in real time. We care a great deal about the guest experience and will always do our best to step up, tackle concerns head-on, and make things right whenever something comes up.
