The House on Crawford is a unique property on North Beach Side. This apartment is above the garage.
This rooming house was built in 1923, and is today recognized as an Historic Building. It is a legal short term rental that offers 3 different and private apartments all situated on the second floor.
The Cottage offers:

Bedroom with a queen bed, set up for 2 people only.
Off street parking "Cottage"
We have bicycles available under your own responsibility, BBQ, Beach chairs and umbrella.
The house is perfectly situated, just a few yards away from the beach and the river, and 200 yards away from Flagler Ave. (close enough to walk to, far enough to not be disturbed by the noise)

Everything was as advised! The cottage was clean close to the beach and too Flagler avenue. We stayed 10 nights although we hit some of the coldest weather New Smyrna has had in years we still managed to enjoy ourselves.

Quaint and clean space with amazing balcony to simply relax on. Surprisingly large bathroom, ample kitchen space - it really is the perfect cottage. The staircase up to the cottage is a little narrow which made me nervous about banging our luggage on the walls going up.

The House On Crawford Cottage is in a sweet location so close to the local beaches. It is an apartment on the top of a garage with a beautiful view. The decor inside is very beachy with convenient appliances for a comfy stay. It was soooo clean and neat…first impression was spectacular to my husband and me.I have given the poor rating due to several facts. The small window type air conditioner was totally inefficient to cool the apartment.Contact with the Host bore no solutions. Outside temp was 90 degrees…inside temp was 85 degrees. Very unacceptable.Host became impossible to contact to assist us.Contact with VRBO Helped us with 1/2 refund of our money so we could seek other accommodations, which we did.Post “vacation” has presented no further satisfaction from the Host.Bottom line, Cute, very Beachy Cottage. Stay any time BUT NOT IN THE HOT MONTHS OF FLORIDA!

I have stayed at this property before and had have a wonderful review. I couldn’t wait to share this special place with my husband as a way of unwinding from my daughter’s wedding week. However, upon entering the home, there was a box fan placed and running in front of the window AC unit and it never really cooled despite turning down the temperature. I did notify the owner but she said there were no other units available for us to stay in as they were all booked. It made staying inside or sleeping difficult because it was just too warm in there. Other than it never really cooling, this cottage is a perfect location as we could walk to the beach in a matter of minutes and walk to Flagler Street for shopping and restaurants with ease. The balcony/deck is a huge bonus, as well. The owner did state she would need to replace the window AC unit with a stronger one to be able to better cool the cottage. Not sure we will be back, though.

We loved the cottage and its location. There was an issue with the AC that made it very uncomfortable for sleeping. They were able to move us to another room for the next day and repaired the AC. It was better the next night, but believe the window AC unit should probably be replaced with a more powerful unit with higher BTU’s. Bathroom was very warm as no AC in there which caused it to smell. Communication could be a little better as I never heard back from them when wanting to add another day to the stay, so booked it through VRBO which means I paid for an additional cleaning fee which was not needed nor done.

Recommended, But Make Sure of One Thing in Summer

Pros:o Great and safe location. Short and easy walk to the beach. Quiet back streets to Flagler Ave, The Garlic and Norwood restaurants.o Well stocked unit. The small refrigerator and freezer definitely come in handy.o Many streaming choices on the television, if desiredCons:o Low water pressure in the showero Minor, and hard to call this a con, but the ceiling is angled at the wall interfaces. This can be an issue for forgetful or taller people (head bump potential). Anyone taller than 5'10" cannot stand straight up at the toilet. o Easily fixed - there were no instructions in the unit. Our only issue because of this was the email we received from VRBO had incorrect WiFi information, which was quickly rectified with a text to the owner.Why the title of this review? This unit is above a 2 car, unventilated garage. Heat rises. Additionally, there is one large wall facing east (summer sun beating on it). The means of cooling is a single window air conditioner that the owner has subsequently assured me adequately cools the space. Unfortunately, we did not experience this. Apparently the a/c unit sometimes requires a defrost period to work to its designed capacity. We felt cool air from the unit, so assumed it was doing the best it could (typically frozen evaporator coils prevent cool air flow entirely). Bottom line - stay at "The Cottage", but make sure the owner confirms the a/c is operating properly just prior to your arrival, especially in summer.

Shannon and Corinne bought this historic beauty from Anne and Richard in 2020. Shannon is a commercial pilot and Corinne is a former Coast Guard pilot. The live with their 3 children, 2 dogs, 2 cats, and chinchilla ;) in the main house. They are available if you need them. I they are out of town on a trip someone else will be available if needed.
