Charming Whaling Captain's Farmhouse with modern updates in West Tisbury

Our authentic Historic District home was built in 1865 by a Whaling Captain whose family farmed the land while he was away at sea. One of West Tisbury's oldest, this is a real Martha's Vineyard country farmhouse set on over 8 acres of land continuously farmed to this day. Your closest neighbors will be the Island's celebrity oxen Chilmark and Titanic!

Since it was built our home has had only 2 owners and has been in our family since 1960. We recently renovated 4 spacious bedrooms and 2 new baths, plus a huge outdoor shower overlooking the fields.

The first floor has one King bedroom and the second floor one King bedroom and one Queen bedroom with shared bath. It is rare to find this many large beds in a rental at this price point!

The large eat-in Kitchen with brand new appliances and comfy sitting area has all you need to prepare great family meals after visiting the West Tisbury Farmer's Market just down the road or nearby Menemsha for fresh fish.

There is a formal Dining Room and a large Living Room with plenty of comfy seating to enjoy a book or watch a movie.

Enjoy morning coffee and pre-dinner drinks on the attached Screened Porch that overlooks the fields behind the property.

A huge yard, garden and outdoor picnic table under the trees provides ample space for playing, sunning and dining alfresco.

Our home is filled with art collected over many years of friendships with notable Island artists. Living spaces have original hardwood and wide-board Island pine flooring. Some are a little wonky but that is to be expected after 160 years. This home has some serious character!

Close to the village center, it's just a short stroll to Alley's for the morning paper and breakfast at 7A and a short distance to Lambert's Cove and Long Point beaches.

There is easy access from our house to a lovely, picturesque and very safe paved bike path that connects a significant part of the island. Martha's Vineyard is mostly flat with a few rolling hills.

The house is located in the center of the Island, equidistant to the three prominent 'down-island' towns, Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, and Vineyard Haven, and 'up-island' towns Chilmark, Menemsha and Aquinnah.

Tenant is responsible to bring own linens & towels or rent from service (we can help with that!)

AC is provided with window units in the bedrooms if required.

Sorry no pets allowed due to owner's serious allergies.
