Sobre esta propriedade

Charming homelike Cotswold Cottage sleeps 4 2bath/2bed Tranquil hidden village.

You are looking for a really comfortable, pet-free, home from home in the middle of England for up to four people? A place from which to explore the Cotswolds and the Stratford area (we are also in Shakespeare country) or even to venture further East to Cambridge, South West down to Bath and Stonehenge or West, over to Wales? London ? A 90 minute train ride away. All doable from our cosy, traditional stone, Grade II listed, Sansome House Cottage in the very special Cotswold village of Ilmington. Maybe, in getting this far in finding my cottage, you have found what you seek? No hidden extra charges made by the owners. Free WIFI included.

Ilmington is a little haven of quiet as it is not on any main roads and is only discovered by chance, mainly by cyclists and walkers. Even in winter the weather can be surprisingly conducive to sightseeing and walking trips (although no guarantees). We are in the Dark Skies area of the Cotswolds so good for looking at the stars too! In the winter bring a torch as there are no street lights in Ilmington, in order to cut down on light pollution. See where we are in the village by looking at a map of Ilmington where the cottage is marked.

Hidcote Manor Gardens is a hike away over the hills and is lovely all year round although it is only open at weekends in winter. Come and charge up your batteries in a quintessential English Cotswold village, away from the madding crowds! Here it is
greenness all around and flowers all Spring and Summer long. I do fresh flowers for your rooms, no matter the season. We offer total relaxation in comfortable beds waking to the sounds of a birdsong filled-courtyard. 'What's on' section of the Sansome cottage site tells you year round what to expect.

MOST stays Saturday to Saturday, 7 night bookings A minimum length of stay may vary depending on the site on which you book. Short stays mainly November to February excluding Christmas and New Year. No taxes and NO extra 'owner fees' from me but note there are some website fees here, incorporated into the price you are quoted.

Ilmington lies on the borders of Warwickshire and Gloucestershire and less than 15 miles from from both the counties of Oxfordshire and Worcestershire. I describe it as a 'hidden' village as it is away from the hotspots of tourism (7 miles from Stratford upon Avon) and not on the main roads. It is 4 1/2 miles from pretty (but busy, in summer!) Chipping Campden. Lovely places to visit, all within easy reach, without living at the centre of the hustle and bustle.

Drive into a completely private courtyard and find the delightful Sansome House Cottage - a conversion of a mid 17thC farm building into a charming vacation cottage with all modern amenities. This honey coloured stone cottage lies opposite the main former farmhouse. In summer there are pots of tumbling flowers at the door. The courtyard - house, cottage and garages, is security protected by CCTV. Note that the garden is completely private. The interior style is small English country house - Persian rugs lie on wooden floors downstairs, antique furniture sits happily with modern pieces and the whole place oozes comfort and peace. You will be surprised at how roomy it is inside..a large rustic-style kitchen is so well-equipped that we doubt you will be asking for more (but you are welcome to borrow if we have missed something out!). Coffee? We have a hob top espresso jug, an electric Nespresso, a filter machine and a cafietiere . A big farmhouse table and chairs sits in the centre, and there is a small table in the hall that could also be used for romantic dining for 2 if you prefer ( a bit of a squeeze for 4). Doors from the kitchen lead to a small completely enclosed garden with garden furniture for sunny days and a BBQ. The downstairs cloakroom/bathroom has a loo, basin and shower cabinet.

The drawing room boasts plenty of comfortable seating (2 sofas and armchair) grouped around an open log fireplace and has a 43" HDTV with all the normal Freeview channels (not Sky). Note that the cottage does not NOT have Netflix/Amazon etc. but a Chromecast dongle means you can beam from your own device if you have a sub. Free wifi. There is a large collection of books available for your stay and a music system playable through Bluetooth.

Up quite a steep staircase (not suitable for small children or people with balance difficulties) is the landing, off which are two bedrooms and a bathroom with bath, loo and basin. The bath has grip handles. There is no shower here as that is downstairs in the shower room.

The main bedroom (with TV+DVD player) and dressing room off, is spacious, with a King ('Super king' in England) bed which is made up as Austrian Twins (two mattresses on the same frame) with separate sheets and downy duvets so it suits close friends as well as couples. (Also no nocturnal duvet snatching possible!). There is a small sofa, two chests of drawers and hanging space. There is an extra hand basin in the dressing room. The second bedroom has two single beds (now without the footboards which are in the photos), chest of drawers and hanging space. All beds have cotton sheets and very comfortable mattresses. Feather and down pillows also. Allergy sufferers can request non-feather bedding.

NOTE: The left hand door and extreme left downstairs window in the exterior photo is not part of the accommodation as it is a narrow room I use as storage for cottage linen, cleaning materials etc. There is a locked door off the drawing room to this. I only go in there on changeover days. The courtyard, house, garages and cottage is protected by 180 degree cctv.

There is free access to WiFi and the first basket of logs is complimentary. In addition I provide starter supplies of all the basic household items and staples, such as loo paper, soap, foil, cling film, tea, coffee, herbs and much more.. to save you having to shop for essentials straight away. For those staying a week a complimentary bottle of wine is waiting for your dinner. There is a community shop and café in the former Catholic Church on the Upper Green so you can buy all the basic supplies you need from there. You can wander round to the café most days (the shop is open every day) for breakfast, coffee time, tea time etc... With that and the two excellent pubs, you need never leave the village for food!

Basically, the cottage is all set up as a home from home from the off so you can walk through the door and feel you are not missing anything (except maybe your dog and family....) and can feel completely comfortable in YOUR Cotswold cottage for the duration of your stay. Children over five are welcome but the cottage is unsuitable for those under five so I have to say no to small children. NO PETS! This is suitable for those with pet hair allergies. There is a good village playground about 5 minutes walk away. Walks/hikes can be taken from your doorstep.

We live in the main house on the other side of the courtyard (a lawn and whitebeam between us!) and are nearly always on hand to give help and advice if required but of course leave you to enjoy your holiday without intrusion. The cottage is well stocked with leaflets and suggestions of places to visit which I keep current, as well as walking, driving and cycling maps. There is plenty of wildlife about - squirrels and deer, pheasants and for the budding ornithologist, bird spotting opportunities abound on your doorstep. We have two kinds of woodpecker.

From April to September there is normally a minimum booking period of a week and a Saturday changeover unless I have gaps created by people staying longer or cancellations ( insurance against this strongly advised!). There is a maximum occupancy of 4 and children over five are welcome. NO PETS! NO SMOKERS OR VAPERS!

There are NO OWNER EXTRAS to pay over and above the rate quoted. The rate is all inclusive so you are not going to get hit with surprises. I welcome phone calls if you want to establish our place is right for you, by talking to me but you will have to do a search for the number as I'm not allowed to give it through here. Please take note of differences in time zones though! Or just send me an enquiry through the "ask owner a question" link and I will get back to you almost immediately (unless i am travelling). I do not do instant booking as it is important for both of us to talk first to make sure the cottage is right for you. We are not insurance agents so we encourage you to take out appropriate travel insurance to cover cancellation for any reason.
See details of what is on month to month in the area by looking for 'What's On Sansome House Cottage'

People have to jump through hoops to leave reviews here so I am reluctant to ask them but several have kindly done it and you will find tons more in other places. Of course I really appreciate reviews! The calendar is kept up to date so please check there before enquiring for a particular period. I am always on email! The automated quote may not be accurate - it often is due to site glitches.

I welcome communication, rather than instant booking, as I feel it is important for you to make sure the cottage is the right choice for you!

PAYMENT AND CANCELLATIONS. Please read the details of cancellation in my Rental Agreement. Please also read House Rules, particularly Custom Rules and note need to submit a booking form. I strongly recommend travel insurance to cover cancellations. Payment is taken through VRBO and only transferred to me days after you arrive There are NO extras to pay, save what they add for booking. I prefer that we talk before you commit to make sure that the cottage is exactly right for you.

Very happy to have found this lovely cottage and thoughtful host

We’ve just returned from a wonderful stay at Sansome Cottage—our first time there, and certainly not our last. From the moment we arrived, the cottage felt warm, welcoming, and exactly as described. It quickly became a home from home, with everything we needed thoughtfully provided. It was clear that the owner had taken care to anticipate what guests might need, which made settling in effortless. The cottage itself was very comfortable—we spent relaxed evenings playing games, watching some of the videos, and enjoying the books available. It truly felt like a space to unwind and reconnect away from the busyness of everyday life. The location was perfect: within easy driving distance of Chipping Campden, Broadway, beautiful National Trust gardens, and some fantastic pubs and restaurants. There were also plenty of lovely walks in the surrounding area. Arriving back to the pretty courtyard each day felt like returning to our own little sanctuary. What really set this stay apart, though, was Felicity, the host. She is such a kind and thoughtful person—welcoming us with delicious treats and fresh flowers placed throughout the cottage. She even invited us to take part in a surprise Easter egg hunt on Sunday, which was a lovely and unexpected touch that made the stay even more special.Thank you so much, Felicity, for having us. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!

New year get away

The property was great, a well stocked cottage which was lovely and warm and very welcoming… the open fire was a real treat. Felicity left a fresh baked loaf, butter, jam, flapjacks, milk and a bottle of champagne for New Years Eve which was a lovely thought. The village is also lovely, with two pubs a few minutes away and a community shop. The walks are fantastic and we felt it was a great rural location but near enough to explore the Cotswolds easily.

Lovely Ilmington Cottage

My husband and I recently had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful house in Ilmington, Warwickshire, located in the picturesque Cotswold's. This charming limestone property is not just a house, but a tranquil portal to the historic English countryside. This “cottage” is very spacious with tasteful decor and was lovingly appointed. The house is a true gem, in a garden setting that could easily be taken for a scene from a storybook. It is the perfect setting for a quintessential English countryside stay. The interior is nicely furnished, wonderfully comfortable for relaxing, cooking and sleeping. A highlight for us were the scenic walks. The surroundings are peaceful and picturesque, making it a dream for nature lovers. And for traditional English hospitality, there is a perfect pub and restaurant, The Howard Arms, a short footpath walks away to enjoy as we did twice. Like stepping into a postcard, surrounded by history and beauty, the leafy hamlet with its ancient towering church and sheep in green pastures looks the same as it did hundreds of years ago. Overall, our stay in this Ilmington house was truly memorable, and it is a place we would highly recommend to anyone looking for an authentic Cotswold's experience. It is a perfect blend of comfort, natural beauty, and historic English charm. Felicity and Tony are gracious hosts who made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. Excellent communication. Really well prepared. Love to stay again.

Cotswolds Perfection

The house is just lovely: comfortable, cozy but not claustrophobic, and full of thoughtful touches like a picnic hamper. The private garden is beautiful and the perfect place to relax. Felicity, the hostess, is so generous! (Thank you for the delicious homemade bread and jam (and home-grown cucumber) waiting for us on arrival.) Throughout our stay, Felicity was ready with suggestions, but never intrusive. The village is also amazing, with a local shop with exceptional quality items, two amazing pubs, plus a beautiful church with hidden sculptures of mice (we had great fun finding them all).

A lovely, fully equipped cottage blending historical charm with modern conveniences.

We’ve visited the Cotswolds on several occasions, usually staying in Bourton on the Water. For this trip, we wanted to step back from the tourist-centric town, while still be conveniently located to the sites we wanted to see. Ilmington and Sansome House were the perfect combination. We arrived to find freshly baked bread with homemade jam, milk, wine, fresh flowers and other essentials to start our holiday. Felicity gave us some must see sights and the name of local grocery and butcher options, which were spot on. She and Tony are fantastic hosts. As the title of this review states, the cottage is a good blend of character and convenience. It’s very well equipped, especially the kitchen. We cooked most of our evening meals in the cottage and ate out for lunch. The beds, duvets, towels, etc. are of the highest quality. There’s a lovely garden outside the kitchen. We set aside a couple of days per week for relaxing in the cottage and enjoying a fire in the sitting room. The TV has a large amount of channels and the WiFi is fast and consistent. There’s two pubs in town a few minutes walk from the cottage, offering tasty meals and drinks. The Community Shop has an amazing array of items and a small cafe. You can’t go wrong staying at Sansome House !

Fabulous cottage - a home from home.

We stayed here (legally in lockdown) as we have moved back from the USA and needed a base to house search from. Even during the lockdown, Felicity and Tony went out of their way to make us feel at home. Home made scones and jam awaited us along with fresh flowers. The cottage is beautiful - spotlessly clean- with everything you could possibly need provided. The location is perfect for amazing cotswold walks and the community shop sells almost everything you need for your stay. The local pub food is fantastic and I highly recommend this cottage for long and shorter stays. You won’t be disappointed.

Delightful and relaxing home from home

Sansome House cottage is a delightful place to stay. Everything is in immaculate order and we arrived to find milk and a large home made loaf with butter and home made raspberry jam and flapjacks. Flowers from the garden were in every room. The house is warm and very well equipped and is an excellent starting point to visit the lovely Cotswold towns and villages. We would definitely recommend this cottage.

Perfect getaway in the Cotswolds

We absolutely loved our week in Sansome House cottage. It is a gorgeous cottage, even lovelier in person than in the photos, with very spacious and beautifully furnished rooms. Felicity and Tony have thought of every little detail to make you feel at home, from a well equipped kitchen to delicious welcome treats and mountains of information about the cottage and surrounding area. We spent a few days working remotely here and it all went very smoothly. The garden is a haven of peace and a lovely place to have your meals. The village of Ilmington is a real hidden gem and one of our favourite places we discovered in the Cotswolds. We hope to visit again soon!

Lovely property in the most delightful setting.

Being a couple who have stayed in the Cotswolds on numerous occassions Ilmington has to be one of our most favourite villages, it is very pretty with lovely local walks and the village itself is a delight to walk around. This cottage was a real find and is fantastic place for those who want to comre and go as they please and cater for themselves. It is very pretty, clean and cosy with a lovely little garden for those sunny days. Tony and Felicity have thought of everything to make a stay a memorable one with the welcome Rustic Loaf and home made Jam awaiting on the large kitchen table along with the awaiting tea pot and cups was just what was needed after the drive. Our stay was for New Years so the log fire was a lovely touch which didn't take any effort at all to light with the crackling logs supplied. Lastly there's masses of space for parking and there's WiFi also. Overall this property and location is first class with the owners very keen to ensure your stay is an enjoyable one. Thank you Felicity and Tony.

Perfect, idyllic Cotswold cottage in a picturesque village with impeccable owners

We stayed for 6 days in Imlington, which is on the north borders of the Cotswolds. It is perfect for exploring Stratford upon Avon, Chipping Camden, Broadway, Dalesford Organic Farm, Chipping Norton, Kingham and many other nearby villages. We went on many long walks across the rolling countryside, aided by the excellent maps provided by the owners, Felicity and her husband. The cottage itself sits across the driveway to the owner's own home. Although they keep very much to themselves, they are always on hand if you need any tips about the local attractions. The place is perfect for 4 people, in our case 2 adults and 2 kids. Everything was clean, spotless and warm when we arrived. Felicity added a lovely touch of homemade fresh bread, butter and raspberry jam, plus a pint of milk in the fridge. The kitchen is well stocked with all the possible knick knacks you need and there is a local village shop open 7 days a week within a 5 minute walk or a local Waitrose within a 10 minute drive. The kitchen is spacious and we spent a few long evenings across the dining table when we ate indoors. There are plenty of books, board games, DVDs, and a large flatscreen TV which, via Google Chrome, can stream your versions of Netflix or Amazon Prime. Wifi is excellent, although phone coverage is poor. There is a great local park about 2 min walk and there is a great walking route from Imlington to Ebrington on your doorstep. Special mention must go to the garden which, albeit slightly small, is a haven of greenery and bright shrubbery in a secluded sun soaked spot with no onlookers around or above. Plus they have a table tennis in the shed. We chose this cottage based on the previous reviews which hinted that this could be a home away from home based on the care and loving attention from the owners; this view has been further cemented and we highly recommend this delightful property.

English Garden of Eden

This was our first trip to England, and we positively loved every second. We stayed at Sansome Cottage for one week and are missing it already! This cottage is set in one of the most quaint, friendly, and charming communities in the Cotswolds. The small community has a great Pub and little local shop. The owner of the cottage, Felicity, is incredibly hospitable, warm, and available. She was never intrusive. She provided fresh bread and flowers upon our arrival, and the cottage was clean from top to bottom. The cottage had all of the conveniences needed for cooking and relaxing. The tranquil, private little garden was an unexpected delight. The were a variety of local walks that were visually stunning. We will definitely return to this village and cottage when we are blessed with another visit to England!

The Perfect Place to Stay in the Cotswolds

We have just returned from our 6th stay at Sansome Cottage. We first found it online in 2008 and fell in love with this place! The location is perfect. The decor is lovely and welcoming. The village is charming, especially the village shop. The kitchen is large and very well equipped for family dinners at home. My best memories of the cottage are of sitting around the huge kitchen table eating meals with a view of our own private English garden. The owners, Felicity and Tony, are extremely helpful and friendly while also giving guests their privacy. Felicity puts fresh flowers in every room and has home-baked goodies waiting upon arrival. They get many return guests, which says it all! We can't wait to return.

Perfect Cotswold Cottage

This was a girls dream vacation...to spend three weeks wandering England and the Cotswolds. Sansome Cottage was the ideal location for our day trips. It was also a lovely and comfortable place to stay. The village is easily walkable with friendly pubs close by with wonderful food. The village people are warm and friendly and Felicity and Tony are the perfect hosts. They provide everything you could possibly want or need. The cottage has mounds of information on the area with maps as well. Felicity was more helpful than any hostess I have ever encountered. She anticipates your needs before you know you wanted or needed it! We loved every minute of the time we spent here and we are truly missing the beauty, peace and quiet of Sansome Cottage and Ilmington. Lastly, we miss the lambs that we watched grow up in the pasture near the cottage. We would go back here again in a heartbeat!

Wonderful base for a Cotswold holiday

Sansome Cottage is very well situated in Ilmington, a characteristic Cotswold village that does not have the crowds and tour buses of Broadway and other better known places. Great walking on the hills nearby. There's a pub with excellent food within walking distance of the cottage. The cottage and the adjacent house are beautiful old buildings. Felicity is an exceptionally thoughtful and helpful hostess who has equipped the cottage with a wealth of maps and information about local attractions. I highly recommend this rental; we intend to return.

My name is Felicity Ausden. I am Irish married to an Englishman, with four grown up children and five grandchildren. I have run Sansome House Cottage as a holiday let, with the help of my husband, since 2005. It is refurbished/renewed and maintained on an ongoing basis so it keeps up to date and pristine. I jigsaw my lettings with my other property - an apartment for 2 in Dublin (dublinletfor2) I have had 57 5* reviews with TripAdvisor who is now partnered with VRBO. Many of my bookings, are from guests who have stayed in previous years (they get in early with their bookings!) which is lovely, but I love to host new ones too! I welcome those who want to chat beforehand to make sure this is right for you! Our daily price has regretfully had to increase in line with inflation and since the site now incorporates their "service fee" into displayed prices it is hidden in daily/weekly charge. You no longer pay an obvious upfront separate fee to them - it is in there in our apparent rate.

Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade

We live opposite in the 'big' house where we have brought up our children, now flown, since moving from London in 1979. Our proximity allows us to assist our guests if needed, so as long as we are not away (it is pretty rare that at least one of us is not on hand) we are right there to give help and advice and of course assist in emergencies. We do of course completely respect your privacy and make every effort not to intrude.

O que faz essa propriedade ser única?

This is in the perfect position in the centre of England to make as a base and we have had many overseas visitors, , quite a few of whom have stayed 3 weeks or more and done day trips to places such as Wales, London, Cambridge and Salisbury but can see a lot in a week without having to drive far. Ilmington is unique in being the only village in Warwickshire which is in the Cotswolds being on the borders of the counties of Oxfordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire so we have Stratford to the North and a myriad of famously pretty villages to the South - Chipping Campden, Broadway, Moreton in Marsh, Stow on the Wold and many more. We are three miles (a lovely field walk or a drive) from the most visited garden in England at Hidcote Manor, designed by an American, Lawrence Johnston. Blenheim Palace, home of the Dukes of Marlborough and birthplace of Winston Churchill is half an hours drive at Woodstock and a 'must see' both for its gardens and the palace itself. 9 private gardens in Ilmington (big and small) are open to the public on 2 days a year, usually in June.
The village has two good pubs with excellent dining facilities. There is a thriving (and chatty!) village shop so you can amble round to pick up a paper, freshly baked croissants or other kitchen supplies. There is a cafe attached.
There is walking on the doorstep and I guarantee that you will be blown away by the view from Campden Hill, the road out of the village. This is, without doubt, one of the most beautiful areas in England - rolling hills, trees, magnificent country houses and gardens some open to the public (The Royal Oak foundation in the USA is linked the National Trust) sheep (!) and pretty villages. Or you can join the friends of Historic Houses Association to have free entry to even more wonderful places, including Highclere Castle aka Downton Abbey. If you want to hire cycles they can be delivered from a local hire place and you have safe storage in the garage for them.
