Long Lake House on the Sandies

Beautiful house on all sports Long Lake. All the amenities are there including grill, fire wood and outdoor wood smoker for those fish you catch! Beautiful sunsets, great fishing and plenty of relaxing. Two bedrooms upstairs, one has 2 full beds and one has a queen sized bed. Two downstairs bedrooms, one with twin bunk beds and a full size bed and one with a king size bed. Set up great for two families. Large dining room and also a table on porch for dining. Large family room with fire place. Basic Cable and internet connection (you should be on the lake). Linens including towels are included. There is also a washer, dryer and dishwasher.

Trip back in time

We are friends of more than 59 years, 2 sets of grandparents now, who have traveled together for decades. Lots of VRBO'S in our history. Grand old place, wonderful waterfront location, nice yard and sitting areas, great town, beautiful layout and woodwork, house of memories. Really in need of some deep cleaning, organization and updating. Criticism seems inappropriate considering the love we felt for this old house. Its so obviously a place for family fun. We did have fun! Some things really do need attention tho, in order to offer the best rental experience.

Great location

It's a magical place! We felt as though we were in a time warp from the 40s. Such great space, beautiful porch for morning coffee and evening wine. We hope to come back!

Great place to stay!

We totally enjoyed our stay on Long Lake at this beautiful up north retreat! The house was roomy and never felt crowded with 8 people staying there. We loved the back porch where we could sit and watch the lake and many birds. The water was a great depth for the kids to play and for us to put kayaks in. The large raft was a great way to spend an afternoon on the water. The dining room was large enough to accommodate us all. The setting is very private. We hope to stay again!

80th Birthday Celebration

The house was amazing! It was a step back in time but with all of the modern amenities of cooking, sleeping, showering and relaxing. We had a group of eight adults that traveled 4 hours north to celebrate our dad turning 80. My parents, my brother & wife, my sister & husband, myself and husband all enjoyed our four days together. Long lake has beautiful sunsets and relaxing mornings. We will be back!

Very Nice Cottage

This was the second year that our family has vacationed in this cottage. It is very large, easily accommodating our family of 8. The place is very comfortable and welcoming. The beds are comfortable, as is the furniture. The owner is very responsive to questions and requests for assistance, although assistance was requested only once in our two years. The WIFI was insufficient for our adult children to be able to work effectively. The owner quickly arranged for an upgrade of equipment and the problem was solved. The yard is large and clean. The view is spectacular with a wonderful swimming beach.

Beautiful location, allows pets

We were born and raised in Alpena and come back every summer. This summer we have a new dog so I looked for a pet friendly home and booked this one about 7 months in advance of our stay. Our family consists of myself, my husband, our 4 children, and our golden retriever. The house was very musty, random cobwebs, many light bulbs were burned out making it feel dark in some areas of the house and there were very large ants in the kitchen throughout our stay. However, I did not intend to leave a negative review because overall we had a nice time and I'm simply not one to leave negative reviews, but I will say I would not have stayed again. After we checked out the homeowner charged us a huge cleaning fee and sent me a message that said “Furniture shoved all over, dog food all over, house smelled like puke.” None of that is true and so that prompted this review. When I contacted the homeowner to discuss, he texted me that his cleaning service had told him these things. My mother-in-law and my sister were there the morning we checked out and some friends came by to tell us goodbye. Several families saw the house the morning we checked out and could attest to it being properly cleaned up, we would never leave a house in the condition we were accused and I don’t even know what to say about the “smelled like puke” part. I’m not sure if he was trying to make it sound like we had a party or something but I will say that I had to buy candles and an air diffuser our first day there to put around the house because of the musty smell and we had the windows open the entire week we were there to air it out which was fine because the weather was beautiful. We have rented several homes and we’ve always had good reviews and positive interactions with the homeowner so I truly don’t know what to make of this one but the lesson I learned this time is to always take pictures when you leave, that is something that never occurred to me as something I would need to do. The only thing this homeowner said that was true was that we didn’t tell him we had a dog. We are new dog owners so I obviously looked for a place that allowed pets but the reservation didn’t ask if I had a pet and it didn’t occur to me to specifically message him after I made the reservation to tell him I had one. I was absolutely fine with the pet fee, but being a new dog owner, I just honestly didn’t realize there was one. If you stay, take pictures when you leave, that’s the bottom line.

The additional charge was less than the amount they owed for the pet fee. I don't want these people back in my place.

Amazing, amazing, AMAZING rental :)))

We got to spend a week at this cottage and each day was nothing short of memorable. The cottage is amazing and roomy and feels like home instantly. Equipped with all the things you’ll need for meals and entertainment. Lawn games, floaties, fire pit, outdoor bar & a grill. You cannot find a better spot on Long Lake! The water is warm, sandy and shallow. Perfect for kiddos. We’ll be back next summer if you’ll have us!

Family friendly lake living

Great house rental for a few families separating bedrooms and large shared space. Best collection of kitchenware I have found in rental along with clean useable grill. Owner very responsive and easy to get a hold of with any questions. Nice place to make summer memories!

Excellent setting, interior was beautiful! Some areas need deep cleaning., in between windows and exterior. Very peaceful and quiet. Truly enjoyed and would stay there again.

Idyllic Lakeside Retreat

A beautiful, spacious lodge type home in a peaceful, private setting on the shore of Long Lake. The home has great character and the lived in feel of staying with a friend. We felt right at home and we’re so grateful our pup was welcome too! We took enjoyable walks each day, a very walkable neighborhood with very little traffic. The backyard of the home was wonderful, right on the lakefront and we enjoyed a spectacular sunset and campfire each evening we were there, thanks to ample firewood that was provided. I wish we could have stayed longer.

Beautiful home on Long Lake

House as described, great location for children with a beautiful sandy beach. It was a super HOT week with no AC and quite challenging with an Infant. Nonetheless it was a memorable week with family and very relaxing.

It's Ok....

The location is great and being on the sandbar is really nice if you have children that love the water. The house was comfortable ( beds, furniture, etc.) and plenty large enough to accommodate our family, lots of parking and a play set for the little ones was awesome. Loved having a grill and fire pit was nice too. Now just a heads up on a few things that were a bit disappointing but not necessarily a deal breaker. The grass had not been mowed and past our ankles , even guests we had over commented on it :( The "stairs" to the water (which is shown in the ad) and I thought was going to be great for easy access to the water, they were laying up on the front lawn all over grown with about 10 inches of grass and weeds :( the swing shown in the ad, which I was looking forward to spending some evenings on and getting some family pics on, well it's covered in moss and mold so that was a bummer. The kitchen needs a deep cleaning, the cupboards are pretty yucky but again, not a total deal breaker. Also, since the house is pet friendly you will find A LOT of built up pet hair that "rolls around" from under chairs, tables and in corners. Overall the place is nice just needs some serious deep cleaning and yard work. It's a toss up... pros are location, size, sandbar....cons, it needs a deep cleaning and some yard work!!

Great stay!

Place is great! Communication with the owner was prompt and accurate. Beautiful Place with tons of space. Kitchen was well stocked and it has a great sandy beach that extends out for a long way. Highly recommended!

Beautiful home. Exllent location. Quiet and peaceful environment.

We had a lovely time in this lovely, knotty pine home with all the upgrades. It is nestled off the road which enhances the quiet restful atmosphere we were looking for. The owner accommodated our little Westie which made it even better. Thanks again!
