Permit STR-200325 River Ranch Lake Placid Vacation Rental, a unique home with a combination of Rustic Ranch and Adirondack Decor. The property is highlighted with two majestic stone fireplaces. The Ranch was frequently used during the 1980 Winter Olympics. A quarter mile driveway adds to the privacy of the 100 acres property made up of open fields, forests, and the Ausable River. There are trails on the property great for x/c skiing, strolling through the woods or down to the river. If you seek adventure this is the property for you. There are breath taking views of the High Peak Mountains from every room:

We had a great time at River Range with all the kids and grandkids despite the very cold weather. The house is large and well laid out although dated in furnishings and reminded me of my youth. The property and scenery are absolutely beautiful and are well cared for by Frank, who kept the snow cleared, the cross country trail groomed, the firewood stacked and the heat working well. It was greatly appreciated. The area is special with lots to do. We hope to be back!

40th Birthday Trip

I had the best birthday trip at the River Ranch! The house and property was so incredible. Frank, the house keeper, was so welcoming and attentive. This place was just magical for a group of 10 people. We went skiing at Whiteface for a day which was perfect and explored quite a bit of shopping and museums in the area. There was something for everyone! Cooking in the house was just so much fun with a group. Thank you for such a wonderful stay. I highly recommend this VRBO.

Perfect Winter Stay

The entire property was beautiful! Had a slight snowfall on Friday which made it a winter wonderland. Plenty of space for our entire adult family. Frank was wonderful showing us the property, fireplaces set and ready to be lit. Unfortunatelyy sons thought they would help and get additional wood when needed but pick wrong stuff so recommend to always follow Frank's guidelines - call him!! Kitchen could be updated and cookware but everything was workable. Close to Lake Placid. Wonderful place for a large family. Special thanks to Frank for all of his help.

Awesome Summer "Camp" experience for our family

Our family lives on the West Coast now, but we were delighted to return to the beauty of the Adirondacks last summer, and our stay at River Ranch was special. The ranch has so much character, definitely far from a cookie cutter rental home... From hikes and runs along the property trails to trips into L.P. and to the aerial / jumping shows at the historic Olympic ski jump to watching a lacrosse tournament; there was so much to do in Lake Placid. We enjoyed returning to the peaceful environs of River Ranch, enjoying sunset cocktails on the patio while grilling our steaks and dining on the screened porch. The casual elegance of River Ranch is timeless and appealed to all ages in our family. We hope to return this summer.

Authentic Adirondack ranch

We stayed here for Christmas with extended family. The house is cozy (although spacious) and festive with the fireplaces and views of the mountains. It was great to be able to cross-country ski right at the house. It is also a short drive into town. It is an old, rustic house - not a new luxury faux-rustic ski lodge. This means the furniture is old and funky, the kitchen has formica counters and wall-paper on the ceiling, the bathrooms are from the sixties and pretty much everything is a bit worn. This is what you get if you are lucky enough to have a family compound in the Adirondacks, rather than a suburban style new build. We loved having the chance to experience the house and hope to be able to come back again some day.

We visit Lake Placid this time every year and enjoy trying different rental homes. River Ranch is officially our favorite place! The description does not do it justice. The views of the high peaks are impeccable, with miles of trails to explore. We had a group of 10 with more than enough space to spread out. This home is truly unique - two massive fireplaces, nostalgic decor, and offers the peace and tranquility you look for on vacation. From check-in to check-out, River Ranch offers it all. A huge thank you to the owner and caretaker, Frank, who made this one of our best vacations yet!

Winter wonderland

River Ranch exceeded our expectations. The house was expansive yet cozy. Very warm and welcoming. The kids loved exploring it and the adults enjoyed sitting by the fire in the great room. The house has everything you need to make your stay comfortable. Frank , the property owner, plowed the driveway a few times during the winter storm while we were there. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you !

Great escape

Beautiful property, at first I was alittle nervous about the house,first time staying in a rustic place, but the place grows on you and we fell in love with the property, had the best time,,, one suggestion is buy more adk chairs and place them near all the beautiful views, definitely comming back

A hot time at Lake Placid

The property was amazing and the house was quite impressive. My family and I had a great time, however the one MAJOR issue we had was that we were staying at the property during a heat wave and that was not pleasant. Although there were many fans available, nothing really helped much when temperatures were in the 80's and humidity was in the 90's, even at night. Our one recommendation is that a slim AC unit be installed in at least the great room, for situations like this. The listing did state that there was no A/C and that did not seem to be an issue as the weather in Lake Placid is usually in the mid 70s and not too humid. We chalked up our experience to bad timing and weather. Again, the house was very unique and the property was incredible. We imagine this property would be amazing in the Fall or Winter time. Also have to say that the property manager was very friendly, helpful, and readily available. Overall it was a great time and we hope to return one day in a better climate.

A perfect getaway for a family with teens

Everything was just as advertised. Easy check-in, proximity to Whiteface and Lake Placid town, amazing property and so much space indoors. We loved our morning coffee in the screened-in porch, our teens had their own hang-out place in the lower level and each had their own bedroom. Couldn’t have been better, we will be back!

Second Time Renting...

This is a wonderful property with amazing views and plenty of privacy. Great for a large family to get together and spread out. We have been here in the summer and now the winter. Both times we have had a terrific stay!

Great place

This house is big, clean and well-kept. There is a ton of space and the basement was great for the kids. The property is huge. The care-taking was super helpful and responsive. The furniture and kitchen could use updating. That said, we had a great stay.

Spectacular Retreat

Our family enjoyed a beautiful Christmas week at River Ranch. The home was perfect for our family of eight adults and two small children. A big Christmas tree and holiday decorations made the home feel festive and welcoming. Frank, the property manager, was exceptional, keeping us stocked with firewood and the driveway clear of snow. We loved all the trails for skiing and hiking.

Beautiful Property and House

Our group of college friends with kids had a great stay at River Ranch. Due to COVID, we basically didn't leave the house and had a great time hiking, skiing, and sledding on the extensive property. We even had a full moon bonfire outside! The house although dated is spacious and has all the amenities you need. Frank, the caretaker, was very helpful too refilling our wood supply and providing sleds so our kids wouldn't fight over the two we had. I would definitely stay there again!
