Amazing Retreat Outdoors+Indoors

I’m Tom, a design-build professional & my wife Lindy’s background is international furniture. We’ve combined our talents to create this retreat with BEAUTIFUL interior & WONDERFUL outdoor amenities: Lush landscaping, salt water pool, cedar barrel sauna and hot tub. We created this retreat for ourselves with no intention of renting it but have recently decided to share our Winston-Salem home with other FAMILIES to create wonderful FAMILY memories.

As the old saying goes “Location, Location, Location” and our home is perfectly located in the West End Historic Neighborhood walking distance to some great restaurants, parks and places to get a beverage. Average travel time by car to WFU is 8 minutes, Reynolda Gardens 7 minutes, WFU Baptist (now called “Atrium”) Hospital 5 minutes, Forsyth Novant Hospital 9 minutes, Old Salem Museum & Gardens 5 minutes, Stevens Center of Performing Arts 4 minutes, the 3 top rated Yadkin Valley winery tours are 35 to 45 minutes, NC Zoo is 55 minutes. In addition to restaurants within walking distance our home is located within 2 miles of over 100 other restaurants so variety of options in dining out will never be an issue…..the only issue will be having to decide which of the many good restaurants close by to visit:-).

To tell you a little more about our 100 year old plus historic home: We bought this particular home because of its great location and the fact that unlike most historic homes, it had large rooms and was not all cut up and maze-like inside and instead had a great flowing floorplan with more openness than the typical historic home and had 10 foot ceilings both downstairs and upstairs with beautiful heart-pine floors and lots of huge windows and natural light with way more openness and light on the interior than most historic homes. Lindy and I and our talented team of craftsmen have spent the last 16 months doing a total renovation of the interior of the home and also creating the oasis like back yard with its salt-water heated pool (heated from late April until sometime in early October), 6 person cedar barrel dry heat sauna and 6 person hot tub and lush landscaping.

Unlike a lot of high end homes that are furnished in a way that make you feel like you have to be overly well behaved we welcome you to kick back and fully enjoy yourselves and put your feet up on the coffee tables and relax and restore. You won’t feel like you’re living in a museum in our high-end home: We create homes for ourselves to enjoy in the areas of the state we enjoy the most and when we do decide to share one of our homes with other families to rent for them to also enjoy we want our home to be FULLY enjoyed and not treated like a museum. All three of our current homes have a contemporary and laid back and comfortable feel indoors that welcome being fully “lived in”. If there is any one hallmark to the homes we create for ourselves to enjoy and then sometimes share with others via a rental platform to enjoy it is that they are “happy homes” that will help you feel good even if it is cloudy or rainy outdoors.

****OUR POLICY ON HAVING A PARTY OR OVER SERVING OR OVER CONSUMING ALCOHOL: DO NOT DO IT ON OUR PROPERTY!!
While we do want our guests to fully enjoy and create family-centered memories we do not want our guests to have a party on our property or over-serve or over-consume alcohol on our property, and that is why we do not accept instant bookings and instead screen our guests to make sure they are family groups and not renting our home to have a party (Translated: NO PARTIES ALLOWED!!!) or to over-serve or over-consume alcohol. Responsible consumption that does not involve either over-serving or over-consumption of alcohol of course is fine and I even own a microbrewery in another North Carolina city:-)

****OUR POLICY ON NOISE: Our policy on noise matches the City of Winston-Salem Noise Ordinance with states that noise generated on our property by guests shall not exceed 60 decibels as measured at the property lines. What does 60 decibels at the property lines sound like? 60 decibels is plenty to allow folks to interact with each other at the pool or play some music at a moderate level, but not enough for people at the pool to yell and shout or play really loud music.

****OUR POLICY ON RENTING TO FAMILIES OF UP TO 12 PEOPLE AND NOT RENTING TO NON-FAMILY GROUPS UNLESS THEY ARE GROUPS OF 4 PEOPLE OR LESS: If your group exceeds 4 people in size the City of Winston-Salem Zoning Ordinance requires that you be a FAMILY of related individuals (parents, kids, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws etc). Our home has 6 bedrooms and we do not want more than two persons staying overnight per bedroom for a total maximum capacity of 12 people staying overnight in our home.

****OUR POLICY ON PARKING & MAXIMUM NUMBER OF VEHICLES: Since our home is in a historic neighborhood where some of our neighbors do not have a driveway and have to rely on on-street parking we ask that you limit the number of vehicles associated with your group to a maximum of 6 vehicles and that you park no more than 2 vehicles on the street and that if you do park on the street instead of in our large driveway that easily accommodates 4 vehicles that you park directly in front of our home on the street and not if front of a neighbor's home. If you have additional family members who come visit you while you are staying in our home their vehicles count towards the 6 vehicle maximum. Fortunately there is an Episcopal Church 5 homes to the South of our home that has a parking lot for any vehicles over and above 6 that are associated with your group of visiting family.

OUR POLICY ON SMOKING ON OUR PROPERTY: No smoking inside the home or on the wooden porches is allowed and if you do choose to smoke outdoors you must dispose of your butts properly and not throw them on the ground and you must not bring them back inside the house to put in an indoor trash can since that is a fire hazard.
