Just completed a deeply disappointing experience with a 4‑bedroom VRBO property in Tampa Bay that I had reserved for a weekend getaway for five.Despite VRBO’s requirement that hosts provide access instructions at least 72 hours before check‑in, our host never sent any details. We reached out two hours before arrival with no response. When we arrived at the property at 10 PM, we continued calling and messaging — still nothing.VRBO Customer Care also attempted to contact the host multiple times without success. After waiting an hour at the property late at night, VRBO ultimately processed a refund because we were unable to access the home at all. What should have been the start of a relaxing weekend turned into scrambling to find a small hotel room at the last minute. The next morning, the host finally replied, explaining they had been on an airplane and offering to “rebook us at the same nightly rate.” After the stress, inconvenience, and complete lack of communication, that was not an acceptable solution.Sharing this so others are aware: communication and access reliability matter, especially when traveling late or with a group. This experience was a tough start to what should have been a simple weekend away.
