The Sea Captain's Home is a sprawling, well-preserved, 4-bedroom-plus Italianate Victorian, featuring large rooms, tall ceilings and striking detail, on a natural 3/4 acre property. Built in 1860, the house is a lovely combination of the gorgeous architectural detail of the time, and the modern amenities of today.

Situated between Greenport and Orient, in the quiet hamlet of East Marion, this peaceful spot is surrounded by farmland, with open fields behind, and wild coastline minutes away. Greenport is a five-minute drive, and any number of local beaches, from the quiet sandy bay beach a half mile away, to the the more dramatic sound beach at the end of Rocky Point Road, can easily be reached by bike. Sep's farm stand, Angel's country store, the now-legendary lavender fields and the Hampton Jitney stop are all a short walk away.

When you're back from the beach, vineyards, shopping, or from a great meal at one of the many restaurants of the North Fork, you can hang out, relax and watch a movie on the smart TV, play music on the Sonos. Cook on the 6-burner Wolf restaurant stove and enjoy meals in the huge dining room. Or have a long soak in one of the deep clawfoot tubs When the day's over, the beds are all super comfortable with new linens, and the whole house is air conditioned.

You can also grill in the large backyard filled with shade trees, next to acres of open land for peace, privacy, and a great view.... especially at sunset. It stays cool in summer back there, perfect for reading in one of the six lounge chairs, or taking a snooze in the hammock. The cedar table on the brick patio seats 10 comfortably. And don't miss the outdoor in a hidden away in a little private garden.

We offer all of the comforts of a modern home, but with a little something rustic left from days gone by.

Please note - WE DO NOT ALLOW ANY PARTIES OR GATHERINGS AT THE SEA CAPTAIN'S HOME. Any celebrations are to be enjoyed by our overnight guests only, without prior written approval by the owners.

Great family weekend

We had a wonderful, relaxing holiday weekend at the Sea Captains Home. The property, inside and out, was well maintained and spacious enough to comfortably accommodate three generations of our family!

Terrific weekend on the North Fork

We had a terrific stay at this historic home. Hosts were awesome in their communication, the home was comfortable and well appointed -- and beautiful. The listing was accurate and photos well represented of whatt we enjoyed. Was a perfect place for our celebration for family. Thanks Maria and Joe!

We had a wonderful girls weekend. The house was beautiful and comfortable. At first it seemed like there were a lot of rules to follow but once we were there and saw how much effort and care has been put into this home, it made sense. Great location for vineyards and downtown Greenport. Would definitely like to come back.

Great place for the family

We rented so the family could stay in one place to attend our daughter's wedding in Greenport. It was wonderful. We had a little trouble getting the code to get in. Once we got to talk to the owner, all was great.

Perfect getaway

Sea Captain’s Home was perfect for our family! It’s a spacious, well kept property, with everything you could need and want. Clean, comfortable, and relaxing. Communication was flawless, including a comprehensive guide to the house and the best local spots to see. We would return in a heartbeat and look forward to future visits.

Great place to stay for family wedding

My niece got married at kontakosta winery with welcome party on Shelter Island. This house was about 1 mile from winery and just a few miles to the ferry. Plenty of space. The bikes were a nice bonus to get to see the area and good enough to get a workout on. The outdoor space was great for socializing as well. Recommend!

Lovely Summer Weekend Stay

Our group of 5 very much enjoyed staying at the Captain's House - it is much larger and more spacious than the photos suggest. The house is equipped with everything you might need for a relaxing weekend. Joe is super responsive. Beds super comfortable and AC window units in bedrooms worked well on a hot weekend. Nearby beaches were spectacular and surprisingly quiet - we felt like we had found secret beaches! The whole setting is just super peaceful and we would definitely stay here again. Thank you for a great stay!

Quality time

I rented the house for the weekend as a gift for my wife’s 50th. My in-laws live out of state and I wanted more quality time then I would get otherwise. First night we enjoyed a dinner in the house followed by late night conversations laughs and a glass or two of wine. Saturday included wineries by day and dinner in Greenport at night. Sunday morning brunch and it was over. We all said it was the best time we have shared in a long time. Thank you

Beware, this house is a scam. Not one bad review and house was infested with ants

We rented this house in August 2018. When we got there we smelled gas. After extended conversations with owner, they sent a technician who confirmed a gas leak. Furthermore, the house was infested with ants which were crawling over food in the Kitchen. The owner had the nerve to tell us that the gas leak was not a big problem and that all of the houses in East Marion had ants. Really, ants streaming in from the kitchen window frame and all over food? Normal? I think not! Beware.

We are not sure why this traveler was so unhappy - the problem with the stove was addressed immediately, and the traveler received a generous refund for his trouble. At the time, he seemed to understand that it was just an unfortunate mechanical malfunction, and he appeared to be appreciative that we took care of it in a timely manner. Later, he sent us a photo of a few ants on a windowsill - not an "infestation". We set some traps and it seemed to be fine. We're not sure why he chose to strike back at us in his review, but at the time of his stay he seemed happy. Our other reviews are bona fide - there is no scam here! He found the house exactly as represented in our profile, and we addressed any issues immediately. We took good care of him and his family - as we always do!

Idyllic Greenport Stay

My family including grandparents, parents, and kids ranging from 10-14 stayed for a long weekend in October 2023. We are seasoned vacation home renters. We had an amazing time-- the house is interesting and lovely. We appreciated so many things about this rental, here are just a few: 1) Location is perfect (but a car is a must) close to vineyards, farms, Greenport, and an abundance of excellent dining options. So much to see and explore a stone's throw from the property. 2) The house was spacious to accommodate all of us (no one sleeping on a couch). We loved the massive front porch and a dining table long enough to seat all 8 of us (with room to spare). 3) The configuration of the rooms (2 king rooms, 1 twin, 1 room with a queen and full) was perfect for us and the beds were plenty comfortable 4) the kitchen is a little tight-- (not unexpected for a big old house), but very well stocked with plenty of plates, glasses, etc. We found everything we needed to make some meals at the house including some basics like salt, pepper, etc. All in all, we fell in love with this home and hope to have the chance to come back again to explore some more. I couldn't recommend this property enough! - Terra

The Sea Captains House was a lovely place to stay with extended family. We had plenty of room for 3 generations to be comfortable during our stay. The house was immaculate. This house has nice updated bathrooms but the rest is cluttered and dingy. Grossly overpriced for what it is. What's worse is the owner falsely claimed we soiled a bedspread without providing valid evidence. The photo sent showed a spot the size of a dime which they claimed couldn't be cleaned, charging us 200. to our credit card. We brought only water upstairs and did not eat one meal there as we attended a family reunion all weekend. Beware of this deceitful Captain's House!

Great location

Front porch was a great place for us to gather for morning coffee and evening cocktail. Kitchen was well supplied and there were plenty of towels. It slept 8 comfortably. Downfall was that it only had one shower so it was challenging getting ready for the wedding we were in town for. Great location - short distance from the ferry.

Wonderful property for a long weekend with friends

Beautiful property in convenient location

Our family loved our stay at the Captain’s House. There was room for everyone, including a small room with a twin bed for the toddler in our group. The home was well stocked with everything we could need, including plenty of games.

Gorgeous Historic Home-Perfect for a Weekend at the Vineyards

The Sea Captain's "Crib" was truly incredible. We comfortably slept 9 adult women and had plenty of space to spread out. It is conveniently located to Greenport and the vineyards. Hosts were extremely communicative and quick to answer any questions I had during my stay. Would absolutely recommend this stay to any family or group of friends looking for a home with character and convenience.

Great Country Living

My husband and I spent a wonderful month in Maria and Joe’s Sea Captain’s Home. We felt comfy and relaxed and at home from Day 1. The front parlor, the family room, the dining room, and kitchen are pleasurable locations, as are the upstairs bedrooms. We enjoyed our mornings outside at the cedar table observing rabbits scurrying by and looking for the deer in the north pasture. It was lovely having a backyard, side yard with a tomato/eggplant patch, and front yard, which is recessed from the main road, thus quieting the passing traffic when sitting in the wicker furniture on the charming front porch. We loved the location, placing us between Sep’s farm stand, which has wonderful pot pies and of course fresh produce, and Fork and Anchor, a terrific sandwich shop selling breakfast burritos with as much hot sauce as you can stand. As Joe had run out of time to complete the town’s newly requested paperwork to acquire our Beach Pass sticker, he offered several alternatives to accommodate our need. In addition, we were fine walking to Gillette beach and driving to Orient Point. And, by showing our lease to the Truman Beach staff, we were able to acquire their parking permit—great water but look out for jellies! We took many walks and bike rides in the neighborhood--a great time! We highly recommend the Sea Captain's Home.

New York natives who love Long Island and love the North Fork. We are both creative types, and so we appreciate the craftsmanship that went into the creation of this unique home. We love it with all our hearts.

Por que o anfitrião escolheu essa propriedade

Truly built by a wealthy sea captain in 1860, it was owned by the same fishing family until the late 1970's. We are only the fourth owners of this classic home, which has since been updated with modern amenities - yet with the rustic charm of the 1800s left intact. The North Fork is like no other place in the world, and we have been to many! The fishing and farming cultures have engendered a work ethic and an appreciation of nature in the people of the area that we really love.
