Apartamento Sótão com 2 Quartos no Bairro Alto

Beautiful attic in Lisbon's old town, in one of Bairro Alto's scenic, sleepy side streets. The location is as central as it gets, but with some walking distance from the nightlife. During the day, you may hear some students practicing classical music in the conservatory across the street, slow cars over cobblestone, or locals chatting on their way home from the grocery store. To find rest at night you might choose to close some of the double glassed windows heading towards the party area.

This beautiful attic is the top floor of a typical, old Bairro Alto building, with wooden ceiling, floorboards and shuttered windows in three directions. It has about 50 square meters, divided into two private bedrooms, one bathroom and a bright open space in the middle, including a fully equipped kitchenette. One bedroom has a double bed (1.40 x 2.00 m), the other has a single bed (0.80 x 2.00 m each).
To reach the apartment you have to climb up decent 3 floors (no elevator), and the last stairs are quite steep, but you are re-compensated by some marvelous views over Lisbon old town roofs and towards the river.

If you rent the apartment, it is all yours for the time of your stay. The bathroom has a bathtub with shower and a washing machine with tumble dryer. You have wireless internet and cable tv, The kitchenette has all that you could need, including dishwasher, espresso machine, toaster, stove, oven, refrigerator, freezer.

When you arrive one of us will welcome you, explain the place and hand over the keys. Being expats in Lisbon already for many years we are ready to share any inside knowledge about interesting spots in Lisboa. Otherwise we usually give our guests space to explore the city on their own and to make the apartment their temporary home.

Please note that the uppermost stairs to the attic are not high, but very steep, so please do not book this place if climbing steep stairs is problematic for you.
We do not explicitly recommend this apartment for children, but only for two reasons: They have to mind the steep stairs, and it is theoretically possible to climb out of the windows towards the roof top. If these two issues are under control of the parents or another responsible person, however, travelers with kids are welcome.

Directions

You can, if you want, go to the apartment by subway (Metro). From the airport you would first take the red line, then change to the green line in Alameda (or to the blue line in S.Sebastião) and continue to Baixa-Chiado. Take the long exit towards the West (towards Chiado, NOT towards Baixa), with the longer tunnel and four rolling stairs. When you come out, you walk west-ward passing Praça Luís de Camões and follow Rua do Loreto until you reach Largo do Calhariz. After the big building of the Caixa Geral de Depósitos bank you turn right into Rua Luz Soriano, then turn into the third street on the left (Travessa dos Inglesinhos, which continues as Rua João Pereira da Rosa). After about 100 meters you enter Rua Nova de Loureiro on the right. Number 6 is the first door, ring on the 3rd floor. The distance between the Metro-exit and the apartment is 750 meters.

Alternatively, you can take a taxi. If you do that we recommend not to take it from the arrival hall, but to go up one floor to the departure hall. In front of the departure hall there are always taxis arriving, so you can skip the queue and the risk is smaller that you get cheated on. You pay what is on the taximeter (should not be much more than 10 or 15 Euro, depending on the traffic) plus about 1.80 for the luggage. And some tip, if you like. Even if it is unlikely, but should they tell you something else, such as that there are special rates from the airport or so, do not believe it. If they insist that you pay more than what is on the taximeter, you should ask for a written bill and make sure that the number from the license plate is on it.

Should you arrive by car, please be aware that parking in Lisbon center is difficult. You can park on the surrounding streets but Monday to Friday it is paid and limited to max. 4 hours. The nearest parking garage is in the Calçada do Combro: https://www.emel.pt/pt/parques/calcada-do-combro/
There you pay about 13 Euros per day or 166,90€ for a month.
