Historic Maine Farmhouse w A/C on 14 Acres-Near Beaches, Lakes & Coastal Towns
Historic Maine Farmhouse on 14 Private Acres | Near Lakes, Beaches & Coastal Towns
Adventure by Day. Quiet by Night.
Explore Maine’s lakes, beaches, coastal villages, lighthouses, and harbor towns during the day, then come home to a private 14-acre retreat where cool evening breezes, wildlife, and dark skies make it easy to unwind.
Dating to the early 1800s and thoughtfully modernized, this historic Maine farmhouse offers a rare combination of authenticity, comfort, and deep quiet. Set on 14 acres of forest and meadow in rural Waldoboro, the property provides privacy and space while remaining close to Damariscotta Lake, Pemaquid Point, Camden, Boothbay Harbor, and many of Midcoast Maine’s most popular destinations.
Summer days are for exploring Midcoast Maine. Swim in nearby lakes and at local beaches, kayak along rocky shorelines, visit lighthouses and coastal villages, browse the shops of Camden and Damariscotta, enjoy fresh lobster on the waterfront, or spend the day hiking, boating, and discovering Maine’s harbors and back roads.
Then come home to 14 private acres of woods and meadow. As the crowds fade and temperatures cool, relax outdoors with a drink, watch wildlife cross the fields, gather around a fire, or simply enjoy the quiet. The property is designed for guests who want easy access to the best of the Maine coast while having a peaceful place to recharge at the end of each day.
Midcoast Maine enjoys some of the Northeast’s most pleasant summer weather, with cool evenings and frequent coastal breezes. Even in midsummer, overnight temperatures often fall into the 50s, creating naturally comfortable sleeping conditions. Air conditioning has been added for the occasional warm spell, though many guests find they rarely need it.
The original house retains its wide pine floors, exposed beams, and working fireplaces, while a substantial addition (“the Barn”), completed in the 1980s, provides additional space, light, and modern systems. The result is a home that feels rooted in history while offering the comfort and convenience expected by modern travelers.
⸻
The House
The main living areas are warm and inviting, centered around original fireplaces and wood-burning stoves. A dedicated library and reading room with built-in bookshelves offers a quiet place to read, write, or simply unplug, while the main living room is ideal for conversation, board games, or relaxing after a day exploring the coast.
The barn living space provides a large, open, and airy gathering area with high ceilings, wrap-around windows, abundant natural light, and additional room to relax or work remotely.
The kitchen is large, bright, and fully modernized, with ample counter space and contemporary appliances. It is well suited for preparing family meals, fresh local seafood, or produce from nearby farm stands. The dining area overlooks the lawn and gardens.
Sleeping arrangements include:
• Two private bedrooms • A large loft with an additional bed and dedicated office/workspace area
The home comfortably accommodates up to five guests.
There is one full, modern bathroom, recently updated, with a double vanity and clean, simple finishes.
⸻
Comfort and Connectivity
• Central heating throughout • Air conditioning for warm summer days and nights • Three working fireplaces • Two wood-burning stoves • High-speed internet suitable for remote work • Dedicated workspace in the loft
Whether you’re planning a summer vacation, fall foliage getaway, or quiet winter retreat, the home is comfortable year-round.
⸻
Outdoors and Setting
The house sits well back from the road, surrounded by forest, stone walls, lawns, perennial gardens, and open meadow. Wildlife is common, and guests frequently spot deer, wild turkeys, songbirds, and other local wildlife.
Outdoor seating is available for morning coffee, afternoon reading, evening drinks, or simply watching the light change across the fields and trees.
The property’s quiet setting and exceptionally dark night skies also make it an excellent place for stargazing.
Summer Highlights
Swimming Hole: One of our favorite local discoveries is Quarry Hill Preserve, a hidden gem just 5–10 minutes (4.4 miles) from the cottage. The preserve includes a former granite quarry that has filled with remarkably clear water, creating a unique swimming hole tucked among the trees. On warm summer days, it’s a wonderful place to cool off, swim, or simply relax by the water. While well known to many locals, it remains largely undiscovered by visitors and offers a distinctly Maine experience away from the crowds. It is also close enough to reach by bicycle for guests who enjoy riding.
Just 5 minutes (3.3 miles) from the house, the village of Jefferson offers several charming local favorites. Jefferson Market serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, including sandwiches, pizza, baked goods, coffee, and other prepared foods. Whether you’re heading out for the day or returning after an afternoon on the coast, it’s an easy and convenient option when you don’t feel like cooking.
Also nearby are Jefferson Scoop and Damariscotta Lake State Park, whose sandy beach is a popular destination for swimming and relaxing during the summer months. Both the market and Jefferson Scoop are close enough for a leisurely bike ride from the cottage.
For guests interested in getting out on the water, Midcoast Maine offers a wide variety of boat excursions. Harbor cruises and sailing trips operate from Camden, Boothbay Harbor, and the Pemaquid Peninsula. Whale watching and puffin-watching boats depart from several nearby ports, while excursion boats provide access to Monhegan Island, one of Maine’s most distinctive coastal destinations. Exploring the coast by boat is one of the highlights of a summer visit.
Guests visiting in August may also enjoy two classic Maine agricultural fairs nearby: the Union Fair and the Windsor Fair. Both offer livestock exhibitions, agricultural displays, local food, rides, live entertainment, demolition derbies, and a chance to experience a longstanding Maine tradition.
Nearby you’ll find:
• Damariscotta Lake swimming, boating, fishing, and the Damariscotta Lake State Park beach • Quarry Hill Preserve and its unique quarry swimming hole • Local hiking trails and nature preserves • Kayaking and paddleboarding opportunities along the coast • Whale watching, puffin tours, harbor cruises, and boat excursions departing from nearby harbors • Jefferson Market, local farm stands, farmers markets, and fresh seafood
The farmhouse is centrally located for exploring Midcoast Maine:
• ~5 minutes (3.3 miles) to Jefferson, Jefferson Market, Jefferson Scoop, and Damariscotta Lake State Park • ~5–10 minutes (4.4 miles) to Quarry Hill Preserve and its quarry swimming hole • ~20 minutes to Damariscotta and Newcastle • ~30 minutes to Camden and Wiscasset • ~35 minutes to Round Pond and New Harbor • ~45 minutes to Boothbay Harbor and Pemaquid Point Light
Popular day trips include Camden Harbor, Camden Hills State Park, Pemaquid Beach, Pemaquid Point Lighthouse, Boothbay Harbor, Monhegan Island boat departures, local oyster farms, and the many shops, galleries, and restaurants that make Midcoast Maine a favorite summer destination.
You can explore the coast by day and return each evening to privacy, quiet, and space.

The property was extremely clean and unbelievably well appointed with amenities and basically everything you would need to have a wonderful stay. Our two dogs were welcome and enjoyed laying by the fireplace and walking down nearby roads that took us to lovely places surrounding the property. The three fireplaces added lots of coziness at night. It all made for a lovely getaway.

We had the pleasure of spending 5 nights in the cottage. We found it to be very clean, comfortable, and well-appointed. The 18th century home was all a casual tourist could ask for. Staying there provided a sense of times gone by, yet the home had all the modern conveniences needed. It would be interesting to spend time here in the winter when the fireplaces would light up and warm the rooms. The location was perfect, right in the center of Middle Coast Maine, allowing us to visit and experience most of the towns and what they each had to offer. We hope to stay there again!
