For motorcycle enthusiasts, the mountain road toward Mariazell offers a truly picture-perfect landscape, as well as countless other routes. Of course, it’s also an experience in winter… Head up the mountain on snowshoes or cross-country skis. Skiers can take the small lift at Winterhöh, which features a 1-kilometer-long slope and a free baby lift. Go tobogganing or join the locals for a fun game of curling in Hinterwildalpen. The Hochkar ski area is also easily accessible from Wildalpen. Attractions include the “HochQuellWasser” museum in Wildalpen with the Kläffer springs, the Arzberg Cave, the idyllic forest sauna with a stream pool and a small indoor pool, and—in summer—the romantic forest swimming area in Hinterwildalpen. Nearby, you can explore the Wasserlochklamm gorge with its breathtaking waterfalls in Palfau; the Mendlingtal Adventure World with its spectacular cattle drive system; the water play park for all ages in St. Gallen; and the Erzberg on the Präbichl—embark on a journey of discovery aboard the “Hauli”….Mariazell with the Bürgeralpe and the beautiful basilica. There’s plenty to explore in Wildalpen and the surrounding area, and despite all this, it’s the ideal vacation for those seeking peace and quiet—or for working from nature while going about your daily routine.
