Erlabrunn, nature, wine, swimming lakes, bike paths:
The Erlabrunn vacation region in Bavaria is located approximately 12 km north of the city of Würzburg. It is known for its picturesque location on the Main River and its charming landscape, which consists of vineyards, forests, and rolling hills.
Erlabrunn is an idyllic village (approx. 1,800 residents) with a quiet and relaxed atmosphere. It is a popular destination for those seeking relaxation who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.
Erlabrunn is also known for its viticulture. There are several wineries where visitors can learn more about viticulture in the region. The wines produced here are sold directly at the winemakers’ seasonal or daily-operating taverns (Heckenwirtschaften). Every year in early September, a wine hike is held. During this event, locals and visitors hike through the vineyards and take breaks at temporary wine stands.
One of the region’s main attractions is the Main River. Here, visitors can enjoy relaxing walks along the riverbank.
At the southern edge of town lies the Erlabrunner Badesee, a 19-hectare recreational area featuring two swimming lakes—with approximately 7 hectares of water surface—as well as large sunbathing lawns, barbecue areas, children’s playgrounds, table tennis tables, and a volleyball court.
For nature lovers, there are numerous well-marked and well-maintained hiking and biking trails that wind through the charming landscape of orchard meadows, vineyards, and Germany’s largest black pine forest. The trails along the Main River offer a great opportunity to explore the region by bike and enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings. The bike trails are suitable for both leisurely rides and more challenging routes, offering something for every taste.
For those interested in culture, the area around Erlabrunn also features various attractions, including historic castles, palaces, and idyllic villages that offer a glimpse into the region’s history and culture.
Near Erlabrunn lies the university town of Würzburg, known for its impressive Residenz, an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Residenz is a Baroque palace that impresses with its magnificent architecture and beautifully landscaped gardens. Today, the Residenz is primarily a museum with over 40 restored rooms, open to visitors year-round. A visit to the Residence is therefore an absolute must for anyone visiting the region.
