Weilheim, the county seat located near the Ammer River, is a popular shopping destination with an inviting pedestrian zone in its historic old town and has much to offer. It can be easily reached off the main road via the “Prälaten(Radl)weg.”
A little further away are the churches in Wessobrunn, Rottenbuch, and Steingaden, as well as the Wieskirche and, among other attractions, two significant museums: the Münter House in Murnau and the Franz Marc Museum in Kochel.
Surrounded by beautiful nature reserves, idyllic river landscapes, and pristine marshes, you can relax, hike, or bike. In the summer, beautiful lakes invite you to swim or take a boat ride. Examples include the Thomas Mann Hiking Trail, the Yew Forest, Lake Staffelsee, and Lake Kochelsee.
The Pfaffenwinkel also has plenty to offer in the winter: cross-country skiing on groomed trails, ice skating on frozen lakes, or downhill skiing at one of the nearby ski resorts in the Alps.
Thanks to its central location, Polling is an ideal starting point for excursions. Murnau, Kochel am See, Oberammergau (home of the Passion Play), Ettal, Linderhof Palace, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and Füssen—with its royal castles Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein—are just a few of them.
