Cozy vacation home in the beautiful Westerwald. Family-friendly and nestled in nature, with plenty of space even for larger groups. An ideal place for a relaxing vacation with friends and family.
You’ll stay in a historic former mill estate in the magnificent Westerwald, on the edge of the Bergisches Land Nature Park, not far from the beautiful Sieg Valley. Welcome to the Windecker Ländchen, a low mountain range rich in meadows and forests within the Sieg nature region.
Far away from the hustle and bustle of the big city, surrounded by forests and meadows. Here you can spot deer, buzzards, foxes, or—with a little luck—even the rare kingfisher and black stork. Extensive hiking trails, horseback riding trails, and bike paths invite you to explore. The Kölner-Weg, one of the region’s oldest hiking trails, is practically right outside our door. Nearby premium hiking trails such as the Westerwaldsteig, Sieghöhenweg, and Siegsteig are also waiting to be discovered by you. Whether hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, or rock climbing—there are almost no limits to the activities you can enjoy in the fresh, unpolluted air here. The region offers many attractions and sights related to culture, history, geology, and nature.
The former mill estate consists of two buildings: the former miller’s house and a newer addition, which we live in ourselves. The vacation home is located in the smaller, historic part of the estate—the miller’s house. The vacation home is family-friendly and furnished primarily in a rustic style. It has two floors and consists of two living units. On the first floor, there is a large kitchen and a spacious bathroom (bathtub + shower), a generously sized living-dining area (with two dining tables, a couch, and a sofa), and two bedrooms (2 double beds, 1 single bed, and 1 sleeper sofa). If needed, we can provide cribs and high chairs. The upper floor features a kitchen-living area with a large sofa bed, a daybed (sleeps 2), a crib, two bedrooms (one with a loft bed and one with a double bed), and a restroom. Each floor is child-friendly and includes, among other things, a changing table with a changing pad, a children’s stool, and a children’s toilet seat, etc. Internet access (Wi-Fi) is available. The kitchen is equipped with various cooking utensils and a wide range of appliances, including a dishwasher, ceramic cooktop, oven, microwave, electric kettle, toaster, and coffee maker. Each floor has a refrigerator with a freezer compartment. The house also features a washing machine with a dryer function, ideal for families with children.
Outside, you can relax in our garden, have a barbecue, or go for a walk, while the children let off steam on the playground or cool off in our large pool (access available only during summer vacation). A portable grill is available for cozy barbecue evenings.
The mill’s origins date back to around 1700. The foundation walls of the entire estate still date from this period. It was a stately manorial mill, one of the most important mills in the region. It remained in operation until the beginning of the last century. The property also served as a photographic subject for one of the most significant photographers of the 20th century, August Sander, who lived nearby for many years.
The property has undergone many changes over the years. Mill, guesthouse, restaurant, farm, and ultimately private use as a residence.
