Holidays on a traditional Portuguese farm. New stone house with central heating, romantically situated in the vineyard. Terraces for all sun positions. Magnificent view of our marvellous mountain world. Spacious kitchen, fully equipped, with dishwasher and wood-burning stove, living room with double sofa bed and adjoining terrace, bedroom with double bed, ideal for a family with 2 children. Bathroom with shower cubicle, satellite TV with German programmes, Portuguese TV, internet access. Barbecue area, firewood for fireplace and heating available, as well as the possibility to participate in the life of the farm. Absolute tranquillity, unspoilt nature, the opportunity to really relax in depth. In summer and winter, the starting point for many activities against a marvellous mountain backdrop with almost unlimited personal freedom. There is also the option of pitching a tent, using the sports facilities in the village or swimming at the "posso de nadar" in the Rio Carapito. Experience Portugal where it really is still unspoilt. We speak: german, portugues, english, francais.
Our quinta is located in Matanca, a small, idyllic farming village in the district of Fornos de Algodres. The people here live mainly from farming, which is still carried out in a very traditional way. Ox and donkey carts are still not uncommon here and there are still large herds of sheep and goats. There are also many plants and animals that have become rare in the rest of Europe, such as the saffron crocus, many reptiles and large birds of prey. We are located in the centre of the Dao wine-growing region, on the tributary of the Rio Dao. We also produce a good drop from Touriga, Jaen and Tinta roriz vines with all its by-products, such as Aguadente. From here you can reach the "Serra de Estrela" nature park in about 20 minutes, with its 2000 metre high peaks, a worthwhile destination even in winter.
Our Quinta is located 10 minutes from the A25 motorway. The A25 motorway runs from Aveiro on the coast to Viilar Formoso on the Spanish border. Whichever side you are coming from, take the Fornos de Algodres exit, halfway between Viseu and Guarda. Then into the town centre and behind the government building (camara municipal, not to be missed) turn right towards Matanca. Drive straight on for 10 minutes and at the entrance to the town follow the wooden signs "Quinta do Mineiro", after about 500m you will see us on the left on the hillside. The nearest airport is in Porto (180km), where we can pick you up for a fee. If you are travelling by train, there is an intercity connection from Lisbon or Porto directly to Fornos de Algodres, where we will be happy to pick you up. However, a car is an advantage here, as public transport is rare and unreliable, and our sights are best reached by car or bicycle.
